View Full Version : Waiting for Christmas to buy my Panny 700u
stingray_on 10-27-07, 01:35 PM I am waiting to get the best price, so far the best price on the 50 inch plasma is Costco and Amazon around 2299. I hope it would go down even more. But Costco doesnt deliver and I am nervous of Amazon delivering it.
I will need help in moving one tv to another room and setting up the Panny. So, I might have to pay extra for installation.
And lastly, I want the one year no interest and no payment deal to give me some wiggle room instead of putting it in the credit card.
What I have done is set up alerts through Google on the Panny and I have price protector web site to let me know when the price goes down( I've never tried this web site so we will see.)
Any suggestions?
And last, I have not decided on a TV stand for the 50 inch Plama , anyone in love with their purchase of a stand?
creemail 10-27-07, 01:44 PM For your 1 yr no interest, just apply for a regular (non-store) credit card and they will give you the same option.
The 700U would be a great Christmas gift. There are tons of stands out there. I prefer Studio Tech, Sanus, and Bello.

stingray_on 10-27-07, 08:12 PM and the Sony KDL 52W300 appears to have a better picture, much brighter. The Circuit City guy said, if you want it brighter, change the settings. I know, Consumer Report voted the Panny the best.
Has anyone question the Sony Bravia 52 inch W300 vs the Panny 700U. The price are comparable. And I read some older threads about the dimness of the Panny compare to Sony but my understanding is that it was a non-issue.
What do you guys think?
RUSTY PELICAN 10-27-07, 08:23 PM That Panasonic 1080p panel is right now on sale for $2499 [and 1-year 0% interest financing] at your local Fry's Electronics (mainly in California and Texas). The local store will also deliver for an additional $50 to $60. Price might go down a little more on Black Friday weekend (after Thanksgiving).
stingray_on 10-27-07, 09:30 PM That is pretty sweet price, I have a Fry a few miles away.
Bill1313 10-27-07, 10:47 PM Check Sears because they also have a good price on it for around $2,400 plus if you use a Sears card you can get even more money off.

Yup, I took advantage of the promotion going on now at Sears and bought the Sony 52w3000. I believe it was $2631 out the door. I'm having it delivered this Friday so should the price come down on Black Friday i'm still within my 30 days to receive the difference if there is one. I'm also looking for a stand as well.
plasmaman4 10-28-07, 09:34 AM Sears card got me $250 off the 700, plus a year additional warranty. Panasonic website has a coupon to get your delivery of up to $200 back. Since I did this, the price is sure to come down several hundred in the near future.
stingray_on 10-28-07, 09:56 AM I am still on the fence between both TV, the price out of the door will have a lot to do with my final decision.
Out of curiosity, the guys that chose Sony over Panny, what made you decide one over the other and vice versa for the Panny buyers?
cixelsydmind 10-28-07, 01:03 PM I just purchased 50 inch 700u on Friday. I originally went to Best Buy they did not have any stock. On top of that they wouldn't match Sears price. Over at Sears original price was $2999 it was then on sale for $2399. Then I brushed the dust off my Sears Card and received another $250 off that for a insanely low price of $2149. You can't beat that deal!

That's strange, as my local (Houston) Best Buys/C.Citys will match competitor prices, included Fry's Electronics (who usually advertised the lowest prices). However, if they do a "price match", they will not allow you to use an additional "10% discount coupon" on top of the price match. They did in 2005, early '06, but no longer - price match only.
As for "why" on purchasing a Panasonic plasma [the other question above], I'm a current Sharp Aquos LCD owner who's moving to plasma on B.F. weekend, as the 50" 720p/1080p panels are at great prices [maybe lower on B.F.], and I'm realy tired of "grayish blacks" when viewing my LCD with the lights off [movies], which I do alot.

I second this. Was an LCD owner, now I'm a plasma owner. Was tired of greyish-blacks. Hated the banding. Hated the color shift depending on where you were on the viewing axis. Hated the uneven color from corner to corner. Hated the blurring when watching sports or live tv (or programs that were shot with video tape).
Having said that, even the plasmas aren't totally black. But they are much closer than even my old lcd with the backlight all the way down. Yes, the plasmas aren't as bright as lcds can go, but they go bright enough for most applications. I believe that if the sets in the stores were at more realistic brightness levels and even between plasmas and lcds, most people would pick the plasma as the better picture mostly for the even color from corner to corner. Which even the most expensive lcds can't do yet.
Sadly, burn in is still and will always be an issue for plasmas no matter what anyone says. I've seen it too many times on all brands. If you have kids that use game consoles or plan on using a computer, I can't recommend a plasma. But if you are going to just do tv and movies, you need a plasma plain and simple.
paris_tn 10-29-07, 03:50 AM I was wanting a Pioneer Elite but for half the price of the Elite Pioneer i might end up with this same Panasonic. I am also going to see what happens BF and Xmas.
