So, I've started getting movies from ebay. Lately I bought three different movies from the same seller since they had an amazing supply, cheap shipping, and even combined shipping to make it cheaper than most online stores. I got Vacancy and American Psycho on BD, and Shooter on HD-DVD, all advertised as brand new sealed. Vacancy I had no issues with, but the other two were weird.

American Psycho was shrinkwrapped and had the "Security Device Enclosed" on both the side and bottom of the disc. the two extra stickers were so sticky that they left that horrible residue that I generally associate with old movies that have been left on the shelf forever, while the top sticker came off effortlessly. And then Shooter was shrinkwrapped in a rather clumsy fashion that didn't look professionally done at all. The case had a few scuffs on it, and there was no insert inside the case.

What do you all think? Have I been bamboozled into buying used merchandise portrayed as new? Was your copy of Shooter shrinkwrapped with no paper insert inside the case?

The American Psycho sounds fine, goopy residue from stickers sadly is normal, especially on older titles.

That Shooter...may be used and resealed. Who knows? I've purchased some titles at B&M stores on release day and had some unprofessionally shrink wrapped. Packaging quality can be really inconsistent.

I always thought that the sticky crap left on the package was from older stickers that had been stuck to the package so long that they didn't want to let go. I just thought it was weird that two were like that while the top came off effortlessly and left no sticky residue.

Anyone who bought Shooter get a paper insert inside the case?

I've purchased Shooter in the HD DVD format at a local Circuit City. It did not come with any paper inserts, which I found odd, but I guess it must be normal for this title.

I also have a lot of issues with Blu-Ray discs having sticky residue when removing the security labels. Some are so bad that they actually began to tear the transparent plastic cover when removing them. Out of the ten discs I have, I had to purchase five replacement cases which I was not happy about. I've had no issues like that with any HD DVD titles so far.

I also have had that issue with the inordinatly sticky residue with my BD discs (mostly the ones from Sony) One of the main things I love about HDM is that they were easier to open until I started buying BDs. Hell the early HD DVDs even had a "pocket" sort of on the back that made them so easy to open and remove the SINGLE piece of security tape at the top I could open 10 discs in the time it used to take to open a single DVD

This is completely normal. Almost all of my BDs have sticky residue left by the "Security Device Enclosed" stickers of the side and bottom. The top sticker isn't so much a theft deterrent as it is a label for the movie, so it's easier to browse through movies when they are in displays. It's always been easier to get off.

Sticky residue was a complaint from many here with early releases. My copy of Shooter on HD DVD has a coming soon insert in it.

My copy of Shooter also has an insert with Coming Soon on one side, and Available Now on the other.

Weird that two had an instert and then two didn't if you count mine and CrisisDog's. Were the two that had insert cards shrinkwrapped or did they have the neatly folded plastic at the top and bottom of the package kind of wrapping?

I opened up the movie last night and it also had a tiny smudge on the disk towards the middle. It didn't look like a fingerprint, it was just a weird mark. It played just fine and I really enjoyed the movie, I just strongly believe now that I've been lied to about the condition of the disc when I bought it.

It was shrink-wrapped rather than neatly folded plastic. I bought mine from CC I think.

Just got my copy of Shooter last week at the CC screw up sale. It has the coming soon insert and the shrink rap had a kinda cheap aftermarket look to it.

Yup has the coming soon insert. Some of my other paramounts didn't though bought brand new, so maybe it's nothing but those were all early releases.
