Since this a basically a home game for Boston anyways, why not play it at Fenway?

(Expansion teams, nobody will take you seriously until you can fill your stadium with spectators rooting for the home crowd.)

I'm from Boston, but I'm in Hartford,CT watching the game OTA... and as I've been watching, a question crossed my mind: how many channels put their logo on the bottom of the screen at the beginning of every hour. I know it was a mainstay in the past, but I think it's getting old, and WFXT in Boston doesn't do that.

Other than that, picture is Fox standard...

almost every affiliate of every network in every city does that.....
why is it 'getting old'??

horrible picture tonight, worst of the baseball postseason imo. VERY soft and lacking in detail/clarity. big disappointment; watching on 105" front projection.

KXRM, Co. Springs, CO. over Comcast

In Boston, they don't put the station logo and info at the top of every hour during a live broadcast like this... I remember WHDH a few years ago did it, but stopped.

don't they HAVE to do station identification? i know they still have to in radio...

don't they HAVE to do station identification? i know they still have to in radio...

From Wikipedia: "Over-the-air transmitters may be required to identify themselves regularly by a governmental licensing authority; this requirement can apply to any form of transmission over the radio spectrum by any means, not merely mass-media audio or video broadcasters."

I stand corrected, it probably is a law.

But most station identification these days is done by commercials, however it may not be enough.

Every US broadcast station AM to digital TV are required to identify themselves when they sign on and sign off and once an hour as close to the top as possible with the FCC assigned call letters and city of license. In the case of multiple cities, the licensed city is the first one. TV can ID either visually and/or aurally. How it is done is left up to the station. This has been the law for at least 70 years.

yea, it seems like most of them are done by little 5 second commercial thingies...

come to think of it, i don't recall seeing the "logo" identifications very often... i may just not be paying attention....

something else i found (http://www.bostonradio.org/legal-id.html) <edit> which foxeng confirms... </edit>

I'm pretty sure the stands are full of Rockies fans. There may be a smattering of BoSox fans in attendance because they have deep pockets and travel well, but it is nowhere near a Red Sox crowd or home game.

hoping i don't have to eat my words, but...

i think you are seeing a fair representation of the difference between the two teams... the redsox held the best record in the american league (without question the stronger of the 2 leagues) virtually all year long... the rockies caught fire (and i give them HUGE props for that) at the right time, and had a lot of things break their way to even make the playoffs in the first place... the sox have 2 of the best postseason pitchers of their generation at the top of their rotation (not to mention the best overall starting pitching in the big leagues), and papelbon sitting at the back end (and okijima don't suck)... they have 2 of the strongest postseason hitters of their generation (and maybe the best one, period, in ortiz) sitting in the middle of their order... for all the talk about the rockies defense, it's not like the sox kick the ball around... etc...

the rockies have a fine young team, and are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years... they probably got here a year earlier than they should have, but the experience should serve them well...

I completely agree!
Now regarding Fox HD production of the WS and entire post season...IT SUCKS! Fox for MLB is the worst HD picture of all major sports. Lacking in detail, clarity, color, and edge enhancement. Way too much noise in the picture. It reminds me of TNT HD for NBA games, way too fuzzy noisy, etc, but FOX may be worse :(:(

For some reason for the past week or so, I cant even pick up any Fox or CBS HD feeds. What the hell is going on? PBS HD works fine. I even rescanned to pick up channels, and now it doesnt even recognize the HD channels are there. (No 2.1 or 5.1) THis is all through Comcast on a basic cable feed, using my SONY 46xbr4 QAM to pick up the broadcasts.

Agreed. Terrible PQ. Soft, fuzzy picture. But FOX always has bad PQ with their baseball coverage. Both SD and HD look terrible compared to ESPN-HD and other sports broadcasts. Oh yeah, and the Rockies need some serious help.

The center field camera is horrible. I kept checking my TV to make sure I was on the HD broadcast. I have tons of noise in the picture when they show from center field. Seems like the side camera's look pretty good.

Ummm, no. What you're seeing is pure Boston domination. Colorado catches up, Boston turns the heat back up. It's almost too easy. Colorado can't handle the superior pitching, meanwhile Boston's rookies are owning Colorado's lackluster pitching. What we're seeing isn't Colorado giving Boston anything. We're seeing Boston take anything and everything they want.

I have a 3rd gen DTV tuner with a 480i downconvert to my 26" TV. I can see the noise, and the center field cam that shows the tight shots almost looks like it has a backfocusing problem.

You know what the odd thing is...when you watch NASCAR, it is obviously darn good video quality, even under the lights. I have to think it isn't FOX per se, but either at the truck or transmission. I have used those cameras and I can tell you that they don't put out bad quality. And I have a somewhat hard time believing that it is at the truck.

I watched most of the game from a bar with D* and it looked good. It was WJBK via D*. Saw a a few problems with the virtual signage.

The only folks who do it worse than Fox is MLB. How can they plan to put out the games in 4:3 SD on DVD again this year??? Every game has been in HD or at least Faux HD. Give us Bluray sets!

TWC in Maine. The game looked worse than the games in Boston. Many shots looked excellent, but some shots (not just slo mo) showed too much grain for HD.
