I have a yamaha RX-V661 and i can't get any sound from the sub :(
All of the settings are correct i think exsample in the settings the speakers are set to small and the the bass out is set to sub and i also tried it to both and still nothing.... I took the cable off the back of and touched it and i get the farting sound from the sub and thats it .....can someon please help...Thanks

Try a new cable.

Try plugging the sub into the analog output of a cd player or dvd player and see if it works at all. Also try running test tones from your receiver. It should send a test signal to each speaker including the sub.
