Here is a shot of my sub:

What are some starter settings for Gain and Frequency?
Can you point me to their definitions?
Also, which position should the Phase switch be in , Rev or Nor?

the smart @ss answer is "did you read the manual?" :D
gain can be set at full-on and then level adjusted using your receiver to match the output level of your other speakers. alternatively, you can adjust the gain to match the output level of your other speakers.
frequency should be set about where your main speakers roll-off. if using thx, this is @ 80Hz. if using a receiver that has small/large options, you need to check it to see where it rolls off the signal.
the easiest way for you to adjust phase is just to try it both ways. one of the two will probably produce bass that is slightly louder. use that setting.
good luck.
He could have bought the sub used and not have a manual.

Thanks for the info.
The sub only came with one piece of paper showing how to hook it to a receiver, not much in-depth information about the settings.
And I can't find that paper right now, post house addition construction confusion.

It's not a good idea to set the 'GAIN' to "full-on". You want to set the 'GAIN' at a level that allows you to either not have to change the sub's level trim at the receiver at all or only have to change the sub's level trim a few dBs. I would start with the 'GAIN' at halfway and go from there.

If you are using your receiver's subwoofer output, you should set the 'FREQ' to its maximum setting (looks like 180Hz from your picture).
Also, start with phase set to Nor (normal). What are you using as your receiver?

I have the Onkyo TX-SR705, and I had to start out "cheap" on the sub, a Dayton SUB-120 12" 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer; until I learn better. ;)

For your sub,
set Phase to Nor
set Freq to Max (180Hz)
set Gain to about 1/3 or halfway for starters
use the line R or L to connect to your receiver
Your receiver has an auto setup. Run it after you set the above. If that completes fine, then you are good to go.
