Is it just me, or does a WB Looney Tunes starter-disk in HD seem like a no-brainer? They have 1000's don't they? It just seems like toons age pretty gracefully and could easily match/surpass some of their other catalog selection.

Agree totally. The HD Looney Tunes that they've put out on HD DVD as Special Features look astonishing.

I'm not sure if it's honestly necessary, but the HD versions of the Looney Tunes classics look great encoded at 720p on Live. Yes, you can see all the grain and all the flaws in brutal detail... but it still looks great. I don't think I'd double-dip, though... the Golden Collection DVDs are fine.

Ya, but I want a shinny disk of 32-ish choice toons, even previously released ones. Throw in a couple bonus B/W tunes in the "from the vault" section so we can see them razor-sharp.

It's a goldmine I tell ya.:)

i took a animation class in art school long ago, they had a real theater on campus. so i got to see all the old toons in film on the big screen the way they were meant to be seen. the prints were not great but the color was just out of this world compared to the old TV transfers.

I buy everyone i could find LOL as long as it plays on my PS3 that is :)

Hey, what's up, Doc?

Is that a carrot in your tights or are you just happy to see Elmer Fudd in hidef?

I'd love to see some of the REAL classics on HD DVD as well. I've been collecting the (expensive) retrospectives of Looney Tunes and would be delighted to shift into hidef mode if available.

They are on the Robin Hood hd dvd

I was afraid that was the only example. I think Warner should have to toss two on every disk as a sort of mascot or something, no matter what the title.

A couple good cartoons is the sugar that makes the medicine go down (sometimes). I warm up the projector with one every time I watch a feature.

Happy feet has a Loony toon. It is not as good as the ones on the Robin Hood HD DVD. It is the "Owl Jolsen" one.

Nothing compares to an IB Technicolor print of a cartoon, even the 16mm prints are gorgeous.

Then I'd have to own Happy Feet  Surely they could have found an appropriate cartoon for Clockwork Orange.

I love that brutal detail, sometimes you can even see the thumbnail shadows of the cells themselves against the backdrops.

There's also one on Casablanca (Carrot-blanca, IIRC).

Are all of the cartoons on HD DVDs as extras actually HD? I thought some extras were SD ported over from the SD packages.

I know the ones on Robin Hood are in HD and look quite good. You may want to netflix it at least. As a fan of the movie, the toons only sweetened the deal even more for me.

from hidef digest:
Next up are four different short films and cartoons. All are presented in 1080p video, too (sweet!). Sit back and enjoy the Looney Tunes classics "Rabbit Hood" with Bugs Bunny, and "Robin Hood Daffy" with Daffy Duck. Then, there are two vintage short subjects, "Cavalcade of Archery" and "The Cruise of the Zaca." Alas, my lack of classic film knowledge is showing -- I didn't recognize any of the performers in these shorts.

The short on Happy Feet, I Love to Singa, is definately HD. It looks really dated, but so nice to see in HD. No mosquito noise around the lines is a beautiful thing.

That's one of my favorite cartoons. Now I might have to buy HAPPY FEET!

Ok, now I think I know what you mean there, it's that kind of pixilation look you get around contrasting lines and edges of text right?

I still see a little scalloping on diagonal lines in Warner toons, even in HD. I watch them over my Sony 1080-i projector on a 7 ft. screen. Is that par for the course given my screen size? Is it an interlacing issue?

I had a Looney Tunes database on my Atari ST. IIRC it had 1300 titles, and wasn't complete. Lost it somewhere.

The cartoons should be restored as cultural icons and contemporary commentaries of those times. And given away for free :p
