I sit about 6ft away from my 42" and I enjoy it a lot, but i'm looking to go to a 50", do I really need to spend the premium to get the 1080P model at a much higher pricetag or just get the 64?
Only 1080P source I have is a hd-dvd xbox addon
thanks
According to the Resolution Chart (http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html) at 6' you would notice a PQ improvement even on a 42". With 50" at 6' you would be at the full benefit of 1080p.

so with 50" on SD / dvd / 1080i it's looking to look worse than my 42 then due to distance?
Possible, but not necessarily. More the chart shows at roughly what point you gain a perceptable advantage by going to a higher resolution.
Given your seating distance and the size of your intended display, you would acheive the full benefit of going with 1080p. Whether the PQ actually LOOKS better or not is an individual thing. I personally notice a big difference, but others claim to not see it (to be fair I have 20/15 vision).
As a Samsung owner, I have found the xx84 series Plasmas to be top of the line. I do not think you would regret going with the FP-T5084 for 1080p support.

I would recommend the 5084 because of your seating position. Again 768p to 1080p does not give you a better picture, however, increases the odds of seeing more detail or sharpness within certain scenes.
