I have the Sound and Vision cal. disc, but I can't set contrast with it because they say to look for blooming, but there is no blooming with my DLP projector. Should I use THX Optimizer to set contrast? I just bought a Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player, and I want to get both of these set properly. Thanks.
Should I use THX Optimizer to set contrast?Yes.

You absolutely can use the S&V disc, even though it's somewhat biased towards CRT displays. To set your DLP's contrast, try this: use the S&V contrast pattern (or the 100 IRE window in the "Advanced Patterns" section) and run your contrast up until you see the white area take on another tint. This tells you that you've run your contrast past the point where one or more of your primary colors has run out of gas. Now run contrast back down until you're just below the point where white becomes white again. This is the maximum contrast your display can produce. To refine it, and to get other useful patterns, I'd recommend the GetGray disc people talk about a lot on this forum. It's aimed at digital displays like your DLP, and works well for CRTs too.
