Hey guys,

I just found this amazing site with these custom looking cases, and I wondered if anyone thought of taking a motherboard and piecing together a HTPC from a mac mini that could run both Mac and Win MC, use a one of these new blu-ray/Hd-dvd combo drives that are coming out now and put a huge full size 3.5 hard drive in the unit.

What do you guys think???

What do you guys think??? Great project for the person with too much time on their hands. For the rest of us the original case is fine. Granted, with an EyeTV receiver, IR receiver, MX 1000 mouse receiver, four external hard drives and assorted cables hanging off our Mini, the WAF could stand some improvement.

The WAF was my deciding factor on why i cant do the mac mini route... :(

This could self contain everything into one sexy case!

Use your imagination a bit. My Mini is in a cabinet (not a housing) I had made and my wife is very happy with it. None of the electronics for our home theater (except the projector) is visible.

If you can use a single large power supply unit then you wont need the fire hazard of having 7 DC converters plugged into a power strip.

I need to start addressing the building WAF now that I'm married -- unfortunately the cable snake pit just keeps getting worse... I really should look into a cabinet.

If no xMac appears at MacWorld '08, I may just bite the bullet & get a MacPro, and stick in 4TB internally, toss the MDD G4, and keep the Mini hidden under the couch as a EyeTV recording only machine, with just one external drive.

This looks interesting, and would be a good trial for stuffing an old iMac DV I've got to use as a VirtualDVHS deck. Though I'm more partial for a 1-space rackmount version.
