It irritates me that the only commercial I have seen reguarding Shrek the Third does not even mention HD-DVD. It only states "Own it on DVD....."
Why?

I've only seen the one that does not. I have seen it about 5 times too. I'm in CA so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it but it just gets under my skin. How are they suppose to sell many HD copies if they don't even advertise it?

they often do it both ways. as they will atvertize the HD version on digital channels and have the DVD on analog or non HD channels

I wonder if that prevents them from getting the message across to those that have their HDTVs connected to their cable/sat boxes via composite?

I was watching Adult Swim lastnight, and went to the kitchen to make a sandwich during a commercial break (I think it was around the second showing of Futurama, or more likely during the Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! / Tom Goes to the Mayor block, since Tim and Eric promo'ed the hell out of that movie when it was in theaters). I heard the Shrek the 3rd commercial come on, and it said "Own it on DVD and HD DVD.". I don't watch much TV, so I haven't seen the one without.

Just a thought -- if you want to make it hard on Disney to stay Blu-exclusive, make Shrek 3 the best selling HDDVD title ever. If Shrek 3 HDDVD outsells Cars, Robinsons, and Ratatouille BD, it likely would make things a bit interesting at Disney's next board meeting.

Except from all reports, Shrek 3 sucked.

Now, a release of the first two may get some action, but Shrek 3 is not Transformers...

Fox did the same thing for FF:ROTSS, I never saw an ad with "available on Blu" until after it was released. But it was still released on time. Same thing is going on here and may gain more steam as the day get closer.

Didn't Shrek 2 break a dvd record?

never mind found the answer.
"Shrek 2" Wrecks DVD Record
Despite all the emphasis on big budget action and sci-fi films, good family fare is still a huge profit maker on both the big screen and DVD as "Shrek 2" not only was the most successful film of 2004, with over $400 million in ticket sales, but will be the best selling DVD in 2004 with over 7 million copies sold in just the first three days of its release.

I guess Shrek the 3rd could do the business, some how it doesn't feel that way to me.. It should do better than Meet the Robinsons on Blu. (weird my Wallyword didn't stock the blu release and had a pallet of SD DVD)

My wife and I were watching one of the football games and the commercial for Transformers came on. It shows the HD DVD, but doesn't say it. My wife did hear the commercial for Shrek the Third that says "Own it on DVD and HD DVD" Sunday during something she was watching. She thought it was odd they mention it for one title and not the other.

Saw the Shrek 3 commercial twice last night during 2 different ABC shows. HD-DVD wasn't mentioned either time. No HD-DVD logo either. With the price drop in players looks like they would be really pushing "available on HD-DVD".

it may depend on the network, ABC is owned by disney, so they may not allow them to mention HD DVD, but on other channels they can

Yeah, it varies from commercial to commercial. Sometimes they mention it, sometimes they only show it and sometimes they don't. Same with some Blu-ray titles.

The best one I saw was one for Heroes that actually spent the last 10 secs of the commercial talking about the exclusive HD DVD features.

Anytime that I have seen the commercial mention HD, the HD box was the DVD case behind all the others.

Just caught it on VH1, it did mention HD DVD at the end.

Not related to Shrek but HD DVD advertising in general, I just saw the commercial for I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry and I thought it was interesting that although the voiceover only mentioned DVD they had the DVD and HD DVD logos at the beginning and then at the end they showed the DVD box and then the HD DVD Combo box slid in and covered the DVD box so that pretty much all you could see was the HD case.

Yep, saw it mention HD DVD as well.

Actually, the original reported sales numbers led to an SEC investigation when shareholder cried foul for pumped up numbers.

That's probably part of the reason the other studios stomped on Paramount's Transformers numbers, since they have a history of exagerating.

Katzenburg's already trying to temper expectations for Shrek 3, on DVD and HD DVD.

Why isn't Paramount doing a Box Set for shrek HD?

Um, no. That is not what happened at all.
Shrek 2 did the first week numbers they reported. No question. It's the future projections that underperformed. Along with the under estimated number of returns. More a case of "recognizing that DVDs appear to have an increasingly short shelf life" than an attempt to mislead.
And they are not the only one, PIXAR had a similar experience.
Also Paramount had nothing to do with Dreamworks at the time of Shrek 2, so your intimation gets you nowhere. Slanderous attacks on Paramount do not make them true. The only company with a history of over exaggerating sales and misleading the public, is Sony

Paramount reported 8.3 million Transformers SD sold in the first week and nobody has questioned it.
Unnamed executives, one from a unnamed Blu studio (Sony? Fox?)and one from paramount. The result: Paramount stand behind the numbers for both SD and HD DVD.

Great commercials, pretty funny too.

I saw another commercial tonight and again, no mention of HD-DVD. I wonder if its a regional (by location) thing, or if its just random.

Meet The Robinsons has been the slowest-selling Disney title I've seen since getting into retail. We've sold fewer than 50 SD copies and not a single BR copy. Anybody have nationwide sales numbers? If the locals are any indication, it's tanking and Shrek 3 will have no problem smashing its numbers.

I saw the gingy ad tonight while watching the daily show. Also was surprised to see the walmart ad featuring the A2 3 times on multiple channels. Looks like the HD marketing campaign is starting to show some life.

I saw one that said own it on hd dvd and then at the end said own it on dvd and hd dvd.

i've also seen the one that says on it on dvd and at the end said both.

The hd dvd centric one was during adult swim. The dvd centric one was on disney channel or cartoon network.

Guess they are targeting demographs with the advertising
