I just got my 890 and also a z-wave light dimmer. I have been programing my remote for the last couple of days and I could not get it to work with my dimmer. So I called Harmony and they told me that they will no longer work with z wave. I had just taken out a different remote controlled light dimmer and replaced it with the z-wave so that i could easily control it with my new remote. Does anyone know what a work around would be? Can I buy a remote just for the z wave dimmer?

There are so many conflicting reports about this. Is it true that the 890 does not support z-wave lighting? Does this affect people who previously had been using the remote to control z-wave lighting dimmers?
I have the Harmony 890 and 3 Zwave products. Two intermatic plug in dimmers and one ACT/HomePro wall switch dimmer. Took me awhile to get them setup, but it appears it was due to me not waiting long enough for the pairing process to finish on the PC software. (It sits for about 2 minutes at a "0" percent status, then shoots up to 100% after the wait. I was cancelling out too soon). I spoke with level one and level two Harmony support, and they walked me through the troubleshooting process and NEVER said anything regarding "we no longer support zwave".
After I found out my issue, all 3 are setup and working fine. I have full control over all 3 individually, (on/off bright/dark/50%) as well as grouped together.
Works great!

I bought my 890 last summer, and I have it set up to control two wall light switches, and a couple of plug in lamp modules (these actually power on my sub and my amp).
What kind of zwave switch do you have?
I have tried ACT, leviton and intermatic zwave devices, and they all work with the 890. There are limitations such as you can't use the liviton 4 group or 4 scene controllers with a 890, but you should be able to control a basic switch no problem.
Did you go through the procedure to pair the switch with the remote?
BTW, the different switch manufacturers all make remotes to control their switches. If you did get a seperate remote, I would go with the same manufacturer, but I would not give up on the 890 yet.
