Got iO installed in the new digs a couple weeks ago and stumbled upon "Thunderbirds" in HD. Can't stop watching it's so cheesy (in a very good way!).
Got the HD DVR with the installation and I think it'll be filled with this show. :)
I can't find an actual schedule for it though...VOOM tries to send me to D*sh site.

Anyone a fan?

Cant help on the schedule but I watch this when ever I can. Its also great demo material. Ill leave this running in the back ground when ever I have company and it always grabs their attention and they comment over the great PQ.
I use to watch this on TV when I was a kid. Its a clever series, looks like a lot of work. A show a head of its time, better then most of the crap thats on the air today.

The other Gerry/Sylvia Anderson creation "UFO" (1970-71), is also on the VOOM HD channels.
It looks excellent in 16:9 HD!

I remember Thunderbirds from when I was young. I didn't think there was much to distinguish it from Anderson's many other creations (Supercar, Fireball XL-5, etc.,) other than having than a bigger 'cast'. Voom also has a CGI remake of another Anderson vehicle, "Captain Scarlet".

But if you guys who have just latched onto Voom are looking for something GOOD, as opposed to cheesy, check out the anime version of Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai" (which title was cleverly changed to 'Samurai Seven')

Don't get frustrated by the first few episodes which set up the series. Well-done and gorgeous to look at, it was produced at a cost of 300K per episode  Oh, and it is episodic, so it would help to start with the initial ep. Shouldn't be hard as AnimeHD keeps repeating the entire series over and over.

Yes, indeed. I think "cheesy" is a strong word for me to use, come to think of it, it really is very well done for what they were using (marionettes on sets in the late 60's). It does look amazingly good, must have been a very good transfer from film.
I found some stuff on Wiki. It apparently strongly influenced Lucas' use of models
and Kubrick hired some of the folks who worked on it for "2001".

I'll check out that other Voom stuff too, thanks.

Thunderbirds may be the only thing I've seen that actually is worse in HD because you can now see all the wires.

Still, haven't seen it or UFO for a long time, so it's nice to revisit.

I find the wires add to it somehow, as if to say "this ain't no steenking CGI!" :)

Any idea how it was filmed? I assume it was done in 4:3, has it been cropped somehow for 16:9?
