View Full Version : NFL on CBS in HD - Week 9
TravelFan1 10-30-07, 09:44 AM I know the maps haven't been posted yet, but I decided to post anyway, as CBS will have the game of the year: NE at Colts:
http://cbs.sportsline.com/cbssports/schedules/page/nfl
All games in HD, except Cincy at Buffalo (Thanks Berk32), according to CBS Web Site.
All that I know is that I am glad I don't live in the following metro areas:
Houston
Oakland
Cleveland - Seattle at Cleveland, starting at 4:05(thanks RemyM)
I am wondering if CBS or Fox will have a bigger audience in Seattle metro... If the Giants were playing an away game at the same time as the Ne x Pats game, I'll probably bypass them.

You should read more carefully...
1 game is not HD
Cincinnati @ Buffalo
Seattle - Cleveland at Seattle on Fox, starting at 4:05pm.

You have that backwards, Seattle is at Cleveland, that's why it's on FOX, road team's network televises. So Cleveland will be blacked out of the NE @ Indy game on CBS. Seattle will be able to see it.
jabbathespud 10-30-07, 12:48 PM Since the SFBA has both the 49ers and the Raiders, it's even more likely that a good game won't be broadcast here. But I forked out for Sunday Ticket again this year and I'm happy I did so.

I'm a transplanted NE fan living in OH, so I'm hoping Youngstown CBS doesn't black out the game. If they do, oh well...off to the bar!

WKBN will be showing the NE @ Indy game.

The Cleveland CBS affiliate WOIO is currently the only CBS station that is not allowed to show a late game Sunday.
perrycom 10-30-07, 02:17 PM Excellent news, Remy - thanks for looking it up!
nikeykid 10-30-07, 02:22 PM i hope to god the raiders game doesn't sell out... and hopefully if that happens cbs will have to throw us another game (colts and patriots). any news about that?
Markets that cannot get the NE-Ind game on CBS (it's a short list):
-Cleveland (and only the Cleveland primary market - secondary markets are fine)
-Houston primary (and its secondary markets)
-Oakland primary.. if sold out (other nearby california markets do not have to air the Raiders game - but some probably will anyways)
IF Oakland is not sold out (tickets are still available - no idea how many though) - then its very possible that the Houston-Oakland game will only be seen in the Houston area markets (also - Oakland market itself will not get a 1pm CBS game)
nikeykid 10-30-07, 02:35 PM If the Raiders don't sell out I don't believe KPIX will be allowed to show NE @ Indy. Since they are already showing an early game I think it's the Raiders game or no game.
thank you mr. davis for moving the raiders back to the bay area.

cbs can only show 1 game in this case... they can pick which time slot (and its "likely" the bay area would get a 4pm game... since the niners are on fox at 1)

that means there's a good chance KPIX will pick the 4pm slot and show the colts pats game if the game doesn't sell out. to my fellow bay areans... do not buy tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!
dmedina 10-30-07, 02:39 PM I'd put more of the blame on the NFL schedulers. Everybody knew the Pats and Colts would be the biggest game of the year going in. What business did anyone have scheduling any game against it, let alone a junk game (sorry Raiders) like Hou/Oak?
I also thought this game should have been set aside for SNF or MNF to begin with.
Good news for most of California: I have confirmed from all involved stations that NE/Indy will be shown from San Diego all the way up through San Luis Obispo.

Oakland home games have to be played at 4pm... (if not the raiders... then the Niners would be at home - 17 week in a season - 16 homes games....)
and CBS probably protected it from being on Sunday or Monday night - they do get to keep some games from the start of the season (I'm not sure how many)

Yes, I believe you are correct. There must be an early and late game in each market. The 49ers are on the road so that has to be shown early on FOX in the Bay area. That means CBS has to show a late game to the Bay area, which would mean NE @ Indy if the Raiders don't sell out. Talk about a reason not to buy a ticket to the Raiders game. This is one week that people in the Bay area want a Raiders blackout.

you've never watched the raiders play huh?

For PQ reasons I am much happier that this game is on CBS instead of NBC or ESPN. Of course I can see your point if you are one of the few unlucky areas not getting the game on CBS.
you've never watched the raiders play huh?
I see your point.:D
The last Raiders game I watched was the last time they played the Giants.
dmedina 10-30-07, 03:27 PM Hey all right!

CBS Late Game Map, Week 9
Thank you very much, Mr. Kirby. This just went up seconds ago.
---
I was *almost* right about my map prediction. If the Oakland Game doesn't sell out, the map will change.
dmedina 10-30-07, 03:28 PM Ahahahahahahaha!
The game is listed as " New England @ some other team"
Kirby is truly the staunch Pats fan.
Double whammy for those getting the Texans @ Raiders. Not only do you miss the game of the season, but you have to listen to Gus Johnson yell at you for 3 hours.
Map thread now posted sorry for being late with the thread, I have been out of the house all day.

henry296 10-30-07, 05:58 PM Basically since it was a Sunday Night game last year, the NFL made Indy-NE a non-primetime game this year to be fair to all of its broadcast partners. Peter King discussed it in his column this week at si.com.
griff311 10-31-07, 04:00 PM I work at the Local CBS affliate in Fresno, CA and we were originally going to show the Oakland vs. Houston game. There is a HUGE Raider Nation in Fresno so it seemed like the right choice to make. But on monday it was decided by the higher ups to switch to the Patriots Colts game. I'm glad we did because it is going to be a huge game and most likely the best game, as far as hype, during this regular season. But, I know our station's phone lines are going to be lit up by angry Raiders fans when they see that the Raiders won't be aired this Sunday. I'm gald I won't be working this weekend!
The game is listed as " New England @ some other team"
Or, per ESPN, "Evil @ Good"
(They had an article about how this game was shaping up as a Good v. Evil showdown, and NE was accurately identified as Evil.)

Why are they evil? Just because they are really good this year and the rest of the league just plain sucks other than Indy and maybe Pit.
You could find the article for their contentions, Steve. I think the Patriots players are performing with excellence; as for their coach...I do not respect him, nor do I think his strategic decisions during games lately have been wise.
You could probably chalk up the "Good v. Evil" article up to typical hyperbole.
Why are they evil?
Because they got caught breaking an NFL rule by video taping play calling signals. The key word being "caught". I'm sure other teams have done the same thing.
I am so exhausted by the "everyone does it" defense. My view on the cheating/policy violation: The commisioner emphasized the prohibition; Coach B chose to violate the policy in a game against a team coached by his former assistant, who knew his tactics; the Pats did not need an unfair advantage to defeat that opponent, indicating a certain pathology in Coach B's behavior. That's all per my opinion only, I respect that others see it differently.

Yeah, and as long as everyone keeps talking about it they will continue to destroy teams to prove it has no influence with their actions on the field, so everyone please keep talking. :D
MeowMeow 11-01-07, 12:37 AM It is too early in the season for "The Most Important Game Ev-ah!" The AFC playoffs have been a free-for-all for years.
Having watched the Steelers and the Broncos climb from the six and five seeds to win the Super Bowl, I ain't counting any of the better AFC teams out this early. How many years were we told Manning did nothing but lose big games, especially against New England? What happened last season?
For that matter, does anyone remember two years ago that Indy demolished Pittsburgh in the regular season only to see Pittsburgh come back and win the single oddest and most poorly officiated game in a long time (sorry Seahawks fans, your team sucks)?
And how many years before that did Pittsburgh demolish New England early season (Roethlisberger's rookie season) only for NE to return the favor in the AFC championship game?
Honestly, we should all sit back and just enjoy the fact that the AFC is in the midst of a golden age. It is just too damned cool to watch six absolutely legit teams tear each other limb from limb for our viewing pleasure, while genuinely good 10-6 teams sit at home watching.
steverobertson 11-01-07, 07:25 AM I guess I can understand that if you are not a Pats fan how everyone can hate them. I also understand why people hate BB but you have to give them credit for putting one of the best if not the best teams in NFL history on the field. I find in our society that people love to rip people or teams that have been at the top for a period of time I guess that is just human nature as I really use to hate the Cowboys. To me the bottom line is that every team has the same opportunity to build the way the Pats have over the last few years but have not been able to do it for a variety of reasons but I think for the most part is that most in the NFL are not capable of doing it. In this era of salary caps I find it amazing how the Pats and Colts have been able to stay at the top for such a long period of time. I look at this as a football fan not just a Pats fan and if you sit back and think about it I think you have to appreciate what they have accomplished. It is the NFL and if you don't like the way they play the game just stop them but it seems most teams just don't have the talent to do that from coaches to players.
Is this really the Pats fault that teams are incapable of playing at their level I don't think it is.
I have found it amusing to read comments from New Englanders on this and other forums lately. They do seem to take it personally when negative attention is paid to the Patriots (or more particularly their coach). As for this Cowboys fan (Colts are my favorite AFC team), I don't hate the Pats. The players on NE's team are performing with excellence. I do not respect Coach Belichick, however. His reaction to being caught cheating was anger at the rest of the world, rather than remorse and repentance. That's a childish reaction on his part, and I think it is leading to poor coaching decisions (such as risking injury to superstar players when games are way beyond decided on the scoreboard). My disdain for Coach B is not about any petty jealousy over NE's superior on-field performance this season.
steverobertson 11-01-07, 10:41 AM I guarntee you that if coach B was coaching your team you would like him as well. I agree however he can be arrogant and stubborn to the point it turns off a lot of people. I don't think there is a better coach in football right now as his record is proving and for that he deserves credit. The team is always very well prepared and motivated.
Is he taking a risk with his star players you bet he is, however they are paid to play football whether they are up 3 points or 40 points and I really don't think he or the players worry to much about injury they are out there to play 60 minutes of football.
