Is Band of Brothers a decent enough HD DVD release to import with exploited cinema, or should I wait for its US release.

Has anybody heard of a US release?

I wish studios released Scarface and Band of Brothers like they said they were going to.

I've never imported so I'm skeptical to get the JAP version of BoB, but it's my #1 collection of films to date.

I'm in the same boat, I can't decide what to do. That Japanese version is looking pretty tempting though, especially with talk of a U.S. release being nonexisting. I believe the only time subtitles are forced are on the bonus material, so that's pretty much a non-issue.

my CC is itching to put it's #'s into Xploited Cinemas shopping cart :D

hard time deciding here also :(

I think it's well worth it as the repeat viewing quotient is very high.
Of course I have to rub in the fact that I pre-ordered from Amazon.jp for $25 a disc.:D

I know what you mean. The other day I watched one of the episodes on SD-DVD, and the series is pretty damn good on dvd. Makes me wonder if it is worth the import price. If I knew they were coming sometime in 2008, the wait would not be bad, but I've heard nothing on a US release date.

I love HD stuff, but I gotta say the up-converted SD version of BoB is so good that I can't bring myself to buy the series in HD (never mind the price).

I was considering this myself. I've never seen the show but heard very good things. Is there anymore people out there that can comment on PQ and AQ??

Considering there has been zero announcements for a US version I say go for it. Besides, a US release will probably reuse the same video and audio, just menus in English.

Wait. It's a quite expensive to pay $170 just for one series.

I'm actually one of those people that LOVE history and don't mind learning as much as I can about it.

Now about this series....? Is there lots of action (bombs exploding, gun fire, etc..) ?? Again I've never seen the shows so I wouldn't wanna spend that kind of money on soap operas along with love story's and a little bit of action. I mean this is HD.

Totally worth it. Not sure if Dreamworks or HBO will distribute it, but if HBO does, just look at the MSRP for Soprano's series. Get the import. The case spines are cool when lined up as they spell Band of Brothers when put together. Like the Voltron HD DVD set about WWII.

Buy it. Now. You will not regret it for a minute, aside from the part where you remember that Ross from Friends has role in it. Luckily it is a small role.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the show. I'm just trying to adopt a different life philosophy with the way I spend money on depreciating assets like technology. Wait a little bit and you'll get it for half the price or less.

My view in life is to save as much as possible so that I'll be a millionaire several times over with enough to retire early (I'm 28 now). I buy TONS of HD discs, but only during stuff like the recent CC mistake, the Amazon BOGO, DDD 20% off sale, etc. Waiting has its rewards long term.

Wait. It's a quite expensive to pay $170 just for one series.

I paid $100.75 for Band Of Brothers 1-5 and The Machinist from a friend in Japan who grabbed them in a second hand store. :D

The quality is pretty amazing though and I would have happily paid up to $160 for Band Of Brothers alone.

Buy it. Now. You will not regret it for a minute, aside from the part where you remember that Ross from Friends has role in it. Luckily it is a small role.

So does Shaun from Shaun Of The Dead

Come on, Gary, you know you want it.....

In all honesty, this is my favorite HD DVD purchase thus far.

Nathan,

For a guy that holds BoB pretty high, I'm probably going to purchase this from exploited per your comment.

are there any infos yet that the US version could be different in PQ (unlikely), Audio (maybe DTS-HD MA instead "only" DTS-HD HR?) or cut/uncut ?

Ha! I never noticed that, I'll have to look for him.

My favorite was Jimmy Fallon just showing up out of nowhere though.

The first appearance of "Ross" where he comes in demanding people stand at attention cracks me up every time. He's actually not bad in the role, but...it's still Ross so it's hard to take him seriously.

I thought David Schwimmer did an excellent job playing a totally unsympathetic character.
What makes this set worth it to me is the simple fact that it the best mini-series I've ever seen. Period.
Great story, great casting, great characters, great action.
Someone xylon I think, posted some comparison pics from DVD to HD DVD.
Some were striking. This however is not a gamer's reference disc.
The palette is purposely washed-out in significant sections and many of the dark scenes have grain.
Hand-helds were used for some of the action scenes so it can be jerky and very fast at times.
FWIW, as good as the DVD is the HD DVD is very much a worthy step up.
I have both.
The soundtrack is also very good and has some deep, intense LFE(Bastogne, etc.).
Firearms sound real(crack!) and not juiced up.
One nit is that the surrounds are not as consistently active as I like.
To those of you wondering about "US specs", there aren't any so quit wondering.
You certainly can't be blamed for wanting to get this cheaper\domestically but I agree 100% with Nathan, BoB is the best set in my humble but worthy collection:D

I have the SD version and did not hesitate in getting this as soon as I had the cash because in my opinion, it is the best mini-series I have ever seen....and I don't regret paying the hefty amount one bit. The PQ is stunning (yes, a noticeable improvement from the already good SD discs on my Bravia XBR2 52" display) and the audio sound much better to me. The soundstage seems much wider to me and sounds truly seem to be coming out of nowhere. The DTS track on the SD discs is very good, but I didn't realize what I was missing until I heard the soundtrack on this HD set....just a wider soundstage providing a more enveloping sound environment.

I bought it local since Im here in Japan and can tell you that its worth every penny. I paid around 120 bucks in yen for the series, and the PQ/SQ is unreal. The Bastogne scene is unreal and offers some excellent demo material. You can also find the series here http://www.hmv.co.jp/fl/7/196/3/page=4 and the price is a little cheaper than Xploited. Worth every cent.
