View Full Version : Scaler with analog outputs for HD audio formats?

The VP50Pro is an impressive piece of equipment but does not have the analog outputs required for the new HD audio formats. HDMI 1.3 can carry them but my AV9 Arcam pre was made prior to HDMI 1.3 so this is not an option. I need to find a scaler for a cinemascope CIH setup that has all the analog outs needed for HD audio. While it is true that I could use a Blu Ray or HD DVD source with such analog outputs (and run the video over HDMI) I am concerned that I will run into lip synching issues (not to mention that I will be physically limited to a single source). Is there a suitable scaler out there? Or one on the horizon?

I don't think any of the VPs have analogue multi-channel audio outs (or ins).
I think you may have to upgrade your receiver instead.

Having said that, I don't run all my audio through Crystalio II and I don't notice any lipsync issues (PS3 Blu-ray goes direct to my receiver as I don't have any more Optical inputs).

I was worried about the lip sync issue as well with analog outs when I ordered my Tosh A35. But after setting it up I've not noticed any problems. I'm running the video out of the A35 via HDMI at 1080p/24 and to my DVDO VP50. I output 1080p/48 to my Sony VPL VW100 pj. My processor (EAD Signature 8) only has analog pass thru w/volume control. no delay or speaker size via analogs. I get zero lip sync problems. Maybe doing a simple framerate conversion really doesn't introduce too much delay. I've yet to try 1080i out though.
