I'm planing on buying a new HD Camcorder and I have narrowed it down to the Sony HVR-V1U and the Sony HDR-FX7.**My main concern since both cameras are pretty similar is the Audio.**The Sony HVR-V1U comes with XLR inputs as well as a small shotgun mic.**The Sony HDR-FX7 comes with a built in mic and a mini mic input.**I know if I decide to do serious work with either one I'll have to use different mics, but my question is if I get an XLR adaptor for the Sony HDR-FX7 how much of the audio is compromised with the XLR to Mini adaptor?

Any input is appreciated

Interesting is that those cameras are very very different in a lot of ways.

V1U has 1/4" CMOS FX7 has 1/3" CMOS of a different variety
V1U captures at full 1080p but outputs to HDV (1440x1080). The FX7 only does the latter
V1U has true progressive modes where the FX7 only has pseudo progressive (24SpF)
V1U has the XLR inputs as you mentioned vs mini in
V1U has tons of user customizable options over the FX7
V1U is targeted more towards professionals vs. the FX7 and it's consumer/prosumer market

and the list goes on and on not to mention the price difference of over $1000!

If you have the money do the V1U or be patient and get the new PMW-EX1 when it drops later this month or so in the $6600 ballpark.
