I finally took the plunge and bought an SP 777. Man that baby is big! Anyways, it occurred to me that there is nothing stamped on the projector or in the literature that comes with it that declared it to be the upgraded dark chip 3. The outfit that sold me the unit thought it was but could not give me any concrete evidence that it had the upgrade.

So with serial number in hand I called Infocus. Customer support referred me to Technical support who said that all 777's were dark chip 2. I had them pull up their website where it says:

... and they put me on hold for 15minutes. Finally, they returned and said that the only way you can tell is from the shipping date. Anything after July 2007 is a dark chip 3. Well mine shipped on 08/28/07 so I guess I am all right. Just wanted to share this nugget.

Ship date or build date? I was just going to check mine but am guessing it is on a sticker on the bottom, which is not accessible since my unit is ceiling mounted.
