Hey guys,

I have searched the threads for a while and haven't found what I'm looking for so here goes.

I have 1 year old Panny 58" plasma 720p and a NAD T534 upconverting dvd player. It looks really good now, particularly when I put the resolution on the NAD on 1080i. My question is that I don't know wheather a new Blue Ray or HD dvd player will be enough of a marked picture improvement over what I have now to warrant the change.

I have seen a plasma 1080p with Blue Ray and it was awsome! Also, if I decided to get a playstation 3, is the player up to par with dedicated players?

Thanks in advance
Tim

Yes, there is huge improvement watching HD DVD or Blu-ray on a 720p display over upconverted DVDs.

Also, the Playstation 3 is a wonderful Blu-ray player.

Yup, but once you get new display you will want 1080p that accepts and properly processes 1080p/24 not just 1080p/60... it's fantastic and you get rid of a lot of motion judder.

Thanks for the info, I hope the audio is as good as the NAD.

Blu-Ray and HD DVD doesn't just limit itself to resolution. Most dvd have edge enhancement and even the best have compression that is really apparent. A lot of DVD are DNR'd. I was suprised to see the amount of EE on Spiderman 3 on DVD, for such a new release. the BR version is free from it..

The PS3 by far is the best BD player currently out on the market. Although the new PAnasonic which comes out on Nov. 5th looks to be the new king of all BD players, at least until the PS3 gets its 1.1 profile firmware update and DTS-MS & D-THD updates. It will be hard to pass up the new Panasonic for $499.

That's the key thing about the ps3: firmware updates. If another player comes out that is better, all lit takes is another firmware update to put the ps3 back on top.
