View Full Version : Poll on Blu-ray menu styles, Main menu or pop-up only.

Note that we will still have warnings and trailers play after the disc is inserted in any case, but you can FF or chapter skip over them if you choose.
Your comments are welcome.

Wow, I can't believe people like having no main menu. I HATE having to select the sound after the movie started and then run back the movie to see and hear it uninterrupted. WB discs annoy me so much. But they have since the DVD days too when I'd pop it in the player, run to the kitchen for a drink, come back, and find I was already missing the movie.
BenDover 11-01-07, 12:11 PM i'd like to add that it would be great if you can get to the menu while the trailers are playing as opposed to having to skip each trailer succesively, as is done in many titles...
UxiSXRD 11-01-07, 12:24 PM I'd prefer the main menu but have it default play if there's no input after X amount of time.
m_tyson 11-01-07, 12:49 PM I like a main menu. I also don't like it when the audio options don't show all the choices in the menu and require you to scroll to find the lossless track.
Benkrishman 11-01-07, 12:58 PM I also like the main menu, as it allows me to change the audio before playback as other stated, and if I'm just watching special features or something I don't have to stop the movie and pop the menu up. I also have a habit of putting a movie in and leaving the room to go to the bathroom or go get a snack or something like that, so it's nice to be able to do that and come back to it waiting at the menu for me.

I agree 100% (with the exception of the bathroom part) ;)

+1. But I still love you WB (though consistent inclusion of lossless audio and higher bitrate transfers would be nice); plz stay Blu! :D
svalentine 11-01-07, 04:25 PM I enjoy having the menu when I pop in a blu-ray movie. I dislike very much Warner's style.

Totally agree.
Just start playing back, use the pop-up menus to make audio, subtitle or added value selections
That gets my vote. I much prefer the pop-up menus over standard DVD type menus.

I also have a habit of putting a movie in and leaving the room to .... go get a snack or something like that, so it's nice to be able to do that and come back to it waiting at the menu for me.
Same here.
Some of the main menus are also creative and/or cool looking IMO.
Thanks Paid for allowing us to voice our input on the menu system.
Layd Dly 11-05-07, 10:08 AM I think on movies with a lot of special features and extras i liek the main menu because i can go right into whatever i want. But for those movies that have no fluff or very very little just start playback and give me a pop-up.
ccotenj 11-05-07, 10:13 AM keep the main menu...
for no particular reason, other than the fact that i like it there... :) usually i'll click through all the stuff, just to see what is on the disk... habit, i suppose...
splinters 11-05-07, 07:17 PM If you can put in your preference for audio settings, I would be ok with a pop-up, but otherwise I like the main menu to make sure all my settings are correct.
If I had my way I would have a menu on the ps3 that would let me set my BD/DVD audio preferences to show:
1) PCM
2) DTS-HD-MA
3) Dolby TrueHD
4) DTS-HD-core
etc...

mntwister 12-23-07, 12:02 PM I would prefer the pop-up, which would then have the option to go to the main menu. I am not sure, though, if I like the movie to immediately start and then have to change the sound format while the movie has started.

Keep having a main menu to navigate from.
Why have the trailers play after the disc (that you have bought) is inserted into the player???? Put them in the 'Bonus/Extras' section of the disc so that the viewer can select to view them (or whichever trailer(s) they want to view) and they will be seen as more of a bonus extra and not as something that's a pain that you have to keep skipping.
Oh and with scene selection please don't just show one scene at a time when standard dvds show a pageful. Also have an icon for the scene that's large enough that you have a better idea what the scene is. And have tons of bonus extras (especially documentaries but also commentaries, etc.) on every release. Also put the region coding on blu-ray.com.
Rachael Bellomy 12-23-07, 07:01 PM I don't care much at all what style menu I get. What makes my fangs come out is forced or semi-forced adverts before I can reach the menu, say hay Dizzney!
cybersoga 12-24-07, 02:50 AM paidgeek, I vote for a full screen menu that pops up as soon as you pop the disc in, with large options to play the movie or play the movie with trailers. I don't suppose that's ever gonna happen...
Dang, I missed the poll. I vote for pop-up menu only.
Full screen menus are so 1997. :p
