I currently only have 1 TV in my house, a Sony HS20 Projector @ 118inches for Movie duty :)

But now I finally wanna dust off all my old systems. I'll have this setup in my office, so anything over 20inches will be HUGE since I'll only be a few feet away from the screen.

I was thinking Tube Widescreen HDTV since I already have a HDTV Tuner in my PC that I can run to the TV, also plan on getting a 360 down the road.

Soooo with all that said... are my options pretty slim on what is available new in stock?

From some quick searches, it's looking like the 34 incher XBR960 is the 'KING' but it'll be a cold day in you know where before I could find one. Also Samsung's newest Slimfit seems like an available option at the big box stores, but it's gotten HORRIBLE reviews, even the updated one with geometry fixes :(

Any other suggestions?

(Oh and it makes me sad trying to hook up my 3DO, GC, PS2 to my Dell 24 inch LCD (2405fpw).... :( )

If you're thinking about hooking your PC up to the TV, I would go for a used XBR960.

Used is your only option, you can't get them at retail. (Cue some guy with "But you can get Korean models for $2,800 from so-and-so importer).

Hey WJ, I remember your name from the other Slimfit thread.

I'm not going to hook up my PC to the TV, that's what my Dell 24incher is for :) Now however, I MIGHT hookup the HDTV Tuner card to my TV... (okay, so yeah, that's techincally hooking up my PC to my TV... lol... I'm not going to surf on my TV, there? That make sense?)

I went to BB today and they had a XBR970 open box... thing had an internal hair line crack about the size of half silver dollar... :( Plus they were asking an ungodly amount of $ for it, I think they only knocked off like $50 from list. I don't remember how much they wanted, but I wouldn't have spent more than $200 on it... thing is a BEAST!!!

Then I went over to the TXT3093WH. YES there was a bit of curling at all 4 corners, but there wasn't any dis-coloration. My first reaction was.. wow.. not bad at all!!! But then yeah, I started to notice the geometry issues, what really sticks out like a sore thumb is when there's a horizontal line being displayed the width of the TV. Meh... I THINK I might be able to live with it.

So I went back to look at the 970, and heck, even it had a big ole curl in one corner.

I think I'll have to put aside my purist wants and just 'settle' for this one... shrug.

Oh and I did the math, once another Best Buy Reward Zone 12% off coupon comes around.. I can get the Samsung for $520 out the door.

You can probably buy xbr 970 or xbr 960 for close to the same amount as Samsung if you are willing to take time to look around. Did you try ebuy or craiglist? There is also xbr955, which is the same PQ wise as xbr960 minus I.Link, Dual View modes, and some enhancements to DRC. I would not personally buy Samsung at that price. I bought Samsung 3083 last year, and returned it for xbr 970 a few days later. I have never regretted my decision. I would advise to go for super fine pitch tube route though, especially, for the computer use. I was able to get a hold of xbr960, and it is one hell of the TV.

Before I bought a Samsung Slimfit, I would scour my local Craigslist for a clean used 960/955. That's just my money talking though.

If that XBR970 has a cracked case, it's probably been dropped.
