"Most" people don't have to. The 80GB is $499.99 right now, and it comes with Motorstorm. In Canada Futureshop has a deal right now where it comes with Enchanted Arms, a PS3 game case, and a keyboard. The 40GB is $399.99, with Spiderman 3 included of course. If people aren't willing to pay that much, they wouldn't be paying it for 360's.

Great commercial. I also saw one last night, it was a commercial for a Blu-ray movie (can't remember which one) but at the end instead of just saying its available on Blu-ray, they mentioned that it plays on all Blu-ray players as well as the PS3. Good idea if you ask me.

Actually no, its based on the fact that they have zero games at the time that I am interested in. They should be coming out with some games next year though that I will want to get my hands on like Kill Zone, etc. Knowing this is what will make me feel better when I do cough up the $400-$500 bucks later this year to get a PS3.

Well MS is taking care of it by extending their warranty to three years, and yes, that does make a difference in consumer confidence. I personally have not had a problem with my 360 yet and ofcourse I'm hoping it stays that way(although it wont be quite as painful when I get a PS3 because I'll have a another gaming machine). And its really no secret that the PS3 lacks in quality games right now, stop being in denial man. I will say however that I really want to get my hands on Ratchet and Clank:)

What's important for Sony to do is to have the "switch" go off in consumers heads that PS3 and BD are linked; there are a lot of PS3 owners obviously that are not keyed in to the whole thing. Even more than selling additional PS3 units, the more existing PS3 owners that can be 'activated' to participate in high-def media purchasing... well, obviously the formula is self-explanatory.

Fashionable? Give me a break. The only ones that think the PS3 has great games are the PS3 owners (because most will never admit that it can't compete with the Xbox360 when it comes to gaming.) I guess we'll just leave that for discussion on another thread.

There's nothing to admit or not admit; PS3 has great games. Maybe if you think otherwise, it's you that should begin doing some research. I'm certainly not talking down the 360's game library, but there's nothing in it that would make be buy the console either. Different strokes for different folks. But I think the PS3 has better multiplayer offerings with Warhawk and Resistance than anything on the 360.

Well the OP posted in the subject of the PS3 along with Blu Ray. But your right, I should have not mentioned anything about how I feel about the PS3's gaming aspect.

I like the fact that they used Saliva's "Welcome to the Show, Ladies and Gentlemen," NBC/Universal's going to have to change the song they use for the AST Dew Tour. Everytime someone hears that theme now it will bring back memories of PS3 and Blu-ray. That should counter those horrible Marty Shottenheimer HD DVD commercials.

On a side note why are there always so many posts not relevant to a thread that are posted by people who are obviously not for Blu-ray in this forum? Does this happen in the HD DVD threads? Mods could really use to start being a little more strict with what is allowed in these format specific forums. Let the fanboy debates happen in the shared forum.

As far as the commercial, I liked it. I would have liked to have seen not just Spidey 3, but also a movie representing all of the major Blu-ray studios, i.e. 300, FF: ROTSS, something from Lionsgate, etc. Besides that, good job IMO.

Got mine at the first of the year and I liked it then but now I love it. The only piece of technology I've ever owned that actually improves and evolves over time into an even better machine. Talk about getting your money's worth.

I hope they make a few more focused commercials based on this same onyx style. One that is only about blu-ray and the titles it plays, studio support and even the dvd upscaling feature. One focusing only on the gaming first party and 3rd party. One that focuses on the free online gaming, a huge bullet point IMO that isn't advertised anywhere. One focusing on the media abilities and PSP remote play.

answer is no this doesnt happend in the hd dvd threads because this site has basically formed into a propaganda machine for hd dvd. mods dont want to be more strict because they are mostly hd dvd fanboys as well. its ashame

I own BOTH an PS3 and Xbox360 and YES, The PS3 sucks a bit when it comes to gaming at this point in time. I only use it as an Blu-Ray player, and a good one it is, and leave the gaming for the 360. So far the 360 versions of the games out for BOTH platforms have better framerates and a touch better graphics. I don´t think PS3 is gonna show it´s TRUE potentials until 2008 or 2009.

Again, YES, PS3 sucks a bit at this time as a GAMING machine with no good exclusives yet. Metal Gear Solid 4 MIGHT change that, but WHEN is it coming out???

Cool commercial...but I do think that everyone in the world knows about the PS3 as far as gaming goes and once again this X-mas every child will be asking for one. The problem is that a lot of parents don't want to or can't spend that much on X-mas gifts. I think that they need a commercial that shows the family aspect with Blu-ray. Parents can buy this as a gift for the whole family, the kids can play games and the parents can enter the Hi-def disc market all in one tidy affordable package. Everybody is happy and the price problem drops when it is a family entertainment purchase. I think the marketing departments on both sides have failed thus far...

with a lot of misinformation going around these days (especially through electronics shop salespeople), some less techy inclined people are willing to buy just about anything with hd in it... "I bought it because i know someone who knows someone who said something..." without taking the time to research what anything really means...

when i go to rent blurays at blockbuster, i'm surprised most of the cashiers always ask "You got a PS3?..", while some will ask "You got a bluray player?"..

I'm glad and fortunate for sony to go this route because i've practically have a 2 media systems in one... best all around bluray player for the least cost... (i got my 60gb ps3 for a cost that was half the price of a PS3 game with my sony visa card points.)

Bundle GT with the PS3 when it comes out! BD wins!! :) I don't believe what I've read in the past that only 20% of owners of PS3 use it for BD.

BTW, my Blockbuster store is very up on BD as they have 200 titles and there will be a kiosk shortly with the PS3 playing a BD!!!

Ok fine, if you want to call me an Xbox "fanboy" then so be it, but little do you know that at one time, I thought that Sony and the Playstation was the best thing next to sliced bread (ofcourse, you may have been too young to remember the PS and the PS2). Its not my fault that they delayed their system, its not my fault that every game that is dual platform (PS3 and Xbox360) is equal or better on the Xbox360, its not my fault that Sony allowed their fans time to wonder off and try out Xbox360.

If you are buying now, I would reccomend Warhawk, Motorstorm, R&C, Uncharted, HS and EOJ. All different, unique and enjoyable. In 2 months you will be able to get UT3 and GT5P... Thats only exclusives and thats $400 in games.

Of course, you will need to get some great 3rd party games, like COD4, AC and such...

The problem is that they are forced to give more time to games because the PS3 isn't selling well. What a weird situation. Sony is screwing this up.

You just promised the future sounds like last year when PS3 was promising great things too like all games 1080p, cures cancer, 7.1 lossless sound, etc...and get games are 720p if not 480p etc....I played all the games you mentioned and yet i still go back to my xbrick.

Confidence? Sure..The only thing that accomplishes is it gives you confidence that your SOL once your 3 years is up. Bottome Line is the X-box 360 is manufactured defected product that should be recalled. Microsoft had no alternative other than to offer a 3 year warranty or recall all the X-box 360s. I guess they don't think once the 3 years is over and they continue to break that people will not sue them. They better think again.

Sony is not the one with a 33% defective rate in their console. Sony does not have to worry about devoting billions of dollars to repair cost and then in 3 years they will have to devote millions to legal fees for lawsuits. Sony and the PS3 are doing just fine.;)
