im running four subprime towers with the pioneer 1015 system...im looking to upgrade my entire system, i rather try 4 sats with the matching cc, and compensate it with a serious highend monster sub "not sure which one yet"..but reading the reviews on finding the "sweet spot"..the speakers sound more and more interesting...but Nobody talks about them here on this forum! why?

I presume you are specifically talking about the Omnisat SATs and are not considering the towers at all. Personally, I like the sound of Mirage speakers. Many people are averse to the goal of the speakers' omnipolar technology. I am usually not a fan of speakers that are designed specifically to provide a diffuse soundstage, but in the case of Mirage's smaller satellites (Nanosats and Omnisats), for whatever reason, I find it very effective and not in the least bit distracting.

As far as pairing the satellites with a very capable subwoofer, that is not really a bad idea. The SATs are rated down to 70Hz (+/-3dB), so the problem of subwoofer localization that is often encountered when utilizing small satellites that require a high crossover should not be such an issue. You should be able to easily utilize a 100Hz crossover and maybe even 80Hz.

I think the reason that "nobody talks about them here on this forum" is because there are just not that many people who use them. I'm not sure, but they may not be that widely available. I don't know if one exists, but have you 'searched' the forums for a 'Mirage Owners Thread'?

Go to "mirage speakers" thread.

And I like them too. Especially at the closeout price on the Omnis at crutchfield and vann's and I am sure other places.

I CURRENTLY HAVE A ATHENA PS6000 SUB, but im not sure if im gonna use it JUST to see how it sounds or just move my current setup into my bedroom and start from scratch..anyway! my local BESTBUY sells them...the 4 towers and a 12 inch sub is murderous' when it comes to music withmy receiver set on "ALL CHANNELS STEREO"..but i find it lacking in the movie department

( for the record blueray's audio is outstanding BUT hddvd PQ is 2nd to none)

Why are they being closed-out? It seems like that line is relatively new.

I have no idea. I think the ID brands have put a hurting on the lower end speaker market and they had to drop the prices to compete and they realized later that they needed to drop them even more.
I paid $300 for the 350 towers w/ no cost shipping and I would be hard pressed to think of a speaker that can compete at this price.

Those Omnisats have been around a few years, no? As for why they are being "closed-out", either they are about to be replaced by newer models or they are not going to be sold anymore at those places that are closing the out, which may be because Mirage IS hurting.

No, they haven't. Most people don't hang out in audio forums and have never really been exposed to the ID brands.

Mirage may be hurting, but it's not because of the ID brands.

The Omnisats aren't being closed out.

It's the most recent version of the Omni line that's being closed out. My take - they're an attempt at a budget line that (a) doesn't fit well with what people want (the Omnisat V2 is what they want) and (b) doesn't fit with the rest of what Mirage is doing - who they are targeting, and how they are distributed. They were never available widely, hardly anyone carried them. Not the most well-conceived product line, though a nice deal at the closeout price.

IMO the Omnisats don't even go to 100hz at -3db, there's no way they even approach 70hz in any meaningful way. Which is no big deal, and no surprise given their size, but don't try to cross them at 80. You might even need 120.

Ah, I see. I though he was using "Omnis" generically, not to describe a particular line.

I was doubtful, too, but I was just quoting what was on the website. Usually when manufacturers try to fudge a speaker's low-end response they leave off the "+/-3dB", and I always blindly assume, probably incorrectly, that when they do include the "+/-3dB" their claims are somehow more legitimate.

I also think with the Omni line that the bass, at least on the 350 is a little overboosted
or overripe. The Omni line was quoting lower bass reponse over the others mostly due to the 5.5" woofers vs. the 4.5" in the V.
The tweeter is better in the V.
So maybe buyers didn't like the sound when compared to the more expensive V and
mirage is cutting thier losses on this line.

The Omni Sat's actually aren't bad little speakers. My father in law has five of them with a pair of Mirage BP 150i and it sounds pretty good. If you like them you certainly won't be waisting money by buying a competent sub. If you buy a kick a$$ sub now you won't have buyer's remorse down the road should you decide to replace the Omnis either.
