Isn't the official Cars release Nov 6th? Noticed in the local Wally world that it was out on the shelf...

Yep, it comes out November 06. But from what I've heard Walmart's computers won't let them sell stuff early.

I've gotten a lot of DVD's/HD DVD's from Walmart before street date. Never has the computer stopped me.

Maybe it was just in regards to the recalled Jack Ryan HD DVD set then.

I can't wait to get this movie. One concern is some of the features on the movie require profile 1.1 correct? Are there any 1.1 players available now?

No it does not use 1.1. The PiP on it is using a 2nd rendering of the movie with the PiP burned in.

I wonder if that meant they had to compromise the bitrate due to space constraints with essentially 2 copies of the movie on the disk?

I just went to the Walmart "secret" sale to pick up a few more HD DVD players and they also put in a whole shelf of BD discs and players.

tool54, You are a tool because you have not posted any comments about the Cars BD yet:) The people in the forum have been waiting for weeks for someone to get a review copy and you tell us you received yours on Tuesday. Come on let us know, please:)

Is there PIP info for the entire feature length?

If it's like T3, they only have to encode sections of the movie for which there is PIP info, unlike 300 which has the blue screen feature throughout.

Not being that long a movie if the PIP isn't feature-length I wouldn't worry too much about disc space.

No new release is supposed to "require" any Profile beyond 1.0, however, Profile 1.1 or 2.0 features will simply not be accessable on a Profile 1.0 player!

Since all accessable video and audio place simultaneous demands on the bitrate (doesn't matter what your actual playback selections are), it would be safe to say having two copies places constraints on both. In terms of disc space, the problem can be eased by seamless branching and leaving out duplicate film segments that lack additional content (don't know if they do that, but they could), however, that doesn't help bitrate whenever additional content has to be stored.
