Looking at the picture quality of Heroes on MOJO right now, how does it look? It is airing now 6p-7p ET as well as from 7p-8p ET.

Does it look the same PQ-wise as when it aired on NBC?

Compared to my local NBC affiliate it blows it away. Mojo's PQ is almost flawless compared to WPXI in pittsburgh. Watching on comcast cable.

This week I'll record the next showing on mojo (too many conflicts to record the eps that were on when I saw this post) and compare file sizes to the NBC airing, if I don't have any conflicts I may record the OTA airing as well just to compare.

Looking at my Tivo desktop software I see a disturbing trend though with Chuck, the file sizes from 10-1 to date are as follows, all 1 hr long shows

10/01/07 - 5,111 MB
10/08/07 - 5,090 MB
10/15/07 - 4,284 MB
10/22/07 - 4,250 MB
10/29/07 - 4,225 MB

Heroes had the following file sizes.

09/29/07 - 5,290 MB (repeat of premiere)
10/01/07 - 5,300 MB
10/08/07 - 5,660 MB
10/15/07 - 4,550 MB
10/22/07 - 4,540 MB
10/29/07 - 4,460 MB

I find it hard to believe it's the cable company recompression. Journeyman, bionic woman also show the same drop off the week of 10/15, Life the same from 10/03 to 10/10 a 20% drop in file sizes.

My CBS channel has this though
Moonlight
10/12/07 - 7,640 MB
10/19/07 - 7,690 MB
10/26/07 - 7,660 MB

Private practice, pushing daisies, grey's anatomy, all of those are like 6.6gb per episode.

I just can't fathom what my local NBC affiliate is thinking, I am fairly certain that it's the 2 subchannels that they have sucking dry the main channel. CBS consistantly has the best looking shows in my area, and if I recall they have no subchannels, ABC is second and they have 1, NBC a distant third with their 2.

I really do hate subchannels.

Heroes is now being played on Mojo??

I thought that channel just played its own programming.

I also found Mojo's PQ for Heroes to be far superior to that of NBC's, via WCAU-DT on Comcast in Philly.

I just don't get some affiliates. Heroes is where they make their money, yet they throw it away with subchannels that few people care about. Most watch because of content, but picture quality is certainly one factor that many people use in deciding whether keep a program after a disappointing episode or two.

I know in my case, a few mediocre episodes + mediocre picture quality equals removal from my DVR.

Does the showing on MOJO have all the annoying NBC advertisements as well? If not, that would be reason enough for me to watch on MOJO.

I find it very disturbing that my local affiliate is watering it down that much, I've taken a screenshot of mine and pasted yours into it for comparison, I can't wait till wednesday when I can take a look at what mojo has to offer size wise, I already feel the picture quality was very good when I tuned in for a few minutes, I suppose i could record an hour of mojo now and see what it comes out as, I doubt they have much variance in their channels bitrate, given the type of channel they are, they may not have the content of HDnet or HDNet Movies but they do seem to be serious about HD.

Well I dunno why but for some reason my cable co has Mojo's copy protecton settings on and it's set to auto-delete the program after like less than one day. I can't remember if I saw 4.3 or 5.3 for the file size for heroes latest epsiode, but it did look better than the NBC broadcast.

Sorry I couldn't get an accurate file size, and I'm going to make sure I complain to my cable co about the copy protection on the shows from that channel, after I make sure mojo didn't ask for that.
