View Full Version : Futurama movies on Blu
* First off, the names of the four Futurama movies: Bender's Big Score
* The Beast with a Billion Backs
* Bender's Game
* Into the Wild Green Yonder
All 4 new Futurama movie DVDs are going to be released in "Glorious Widescreen" (1.78:1) with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and will be available in both DVD and High-Definition format. Each of the feature-length movies (approximately 88 minutes) will be cut and reconfigured to be shown as four individual episodes on Comedy Central sometime after the release on DVD (date has not yet been set). The current plan states that the TV episodes are going to be in 4:3 to match the earlier episodes. All the more reason to buy the DVDs once they are available!

makingmusic476 11-01-07, 09:11 PM Yay! I love Futurama. Let's hope Comedy Central keeps making new episodes after this year.
TheCrackedJack 11-01-07, 09:17 PM I don't believe it will be released in HD, contrary to what that says. Nothing has been formally announced besides the DVD and we are less than a month away from release.
Search for this topic, as it's already been discussed. Unfortunately, what it means is that the movies were created in HD, not that there is a HDM release coming. At least, that is the word atm. And I doubt that changes between now and release date.
ryoohki 11-01-07, 09:41 PM Nice... since it was created in HD,it mean it could be released on BluRay.. the TV serie was rendered in TV Resolution..
Eric D. 11-01-07, 11:54 PM I would love to have Futurama on BD.
This has been brought up a quite a few times, and even though it's been mastered in "HD" it's a straight to video title- DVD only.
This thread raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly, sirs. Bravo!
Betchya it will be downloadable from Xbox Live Arcade in HD.
NoThru22 11-02-07, 01:54 PM All hail the return of the Robot Devil (and the Hypnotoad of course.)
Buttabean 11-12-07, 02:16 PM Two questions I've been asked a lot lately are "when will there be international releases" and "is there a time schedule for high definition versions and are they going to be HD-DVD or Blu-ray?" Do you have an answer for that?
The short answer is: no. I don't think any final decisions have been made yet on either account.
from the head of David X Cohen :) really good interview. If you guys havent read it yet id recommend reading it!

http://www.gotfuturama.com/Information/Articles/Benders_Big_Score_Interview_Cohen/I seriously doubt it. Unless FOX is doing a "day and date" release with the DVD I don't expect to see a release to BLU.
Hopfully their will be enough sales to premote a new series. I always liked this show. But fox was in their dump every thing stage.
Buttabean 11-13-07, 08:52 AM I ordered my dvd version already from amazon if it comes out on blu-ray later on i'll buy it aswell. Every way possible to help futurama get back on the air.
Chad Ferguson 11-14-07, 04:40 AM I'm curious what is the wait times between these movies?
doesn't paramount distribute comedy central on DVD?
nnarum23 11-26-07, 08:58 PM Tomorrow! I really wish this was coming to Blu, although cartoons usually won't look considerably better, it would be nice for extra features/footage.

After watching TekkonKinkreet, I'd argue that animation can actually benefit from HD even more than film. Or, at least, just as much.
LazerViking 11-27-07, 02:02 AM After watching the commentary, Cohen and Groening do talk about how the movie was the first encounter with HD for the Futurama cue. Shortly after, I believe it was Groening, mentioned that the movie would be released on an HDM format shortly. Occurs, I believe, around when Leela and Lars meet in the first few minutes.
UxiSXRD 11-27-07, 02:24 AM I would love to have Futurama on BD.
Indeed.
