I have (among several other projectors) and older PANNY 900, and it has never been able to take a 40 foot hdmi signal. I actually tried two of them, same issues. I noticed in the dedicated PANNY 2000 thread, some one posted a similar issue wity a VP 30, not being able to handshake. Was wondering if PANASONIC uses some kind of different hdmi interface that is causing this problem, as none of my other projectors has any kind of a issue with my 40 foot hdmi run,( I do use a dvi cable, with hdmi adaptors at each end). I am about to try a PANNY 2000, and hope to avoid this problem.

It is probably more an issue with your source. I have a ae900 that works great with a 50ft cable from a 8300HD, 360 elite and A2 both directly and through my AVR. My friend has a ax100 which also works with a 50ft cable from a 8300HD.

Well I did hook up a new PANNY 2000 1080 P Projector to the A30, and can't get a handshake with the HDMI cable (40 foot run, dvi, both ends, but with hdmi adaptors, runing thru a switching box, which I also took out of the curcuit to see if it was the culprit). Component works, but no HDMI, strangley, I do, how ever, get a handshake with a SONY BLUE RAY player. I even used same cable that allows SONY to work, and placed it in the TOSH unit, with no luck.

I am not here to bash HD, has I have twice as many HD'S than BLUE RAYS. So wonder what is going on here. I have not tried a shorter run, to see if that is an issue, however I have never had an issue before with any other projector, other than another PANNY (900 MODEL). Any thoughts?

PS,Anyone know if the A35, has the identical HDMI systemn inside, as I may try one to see what happens?

I was having an issue with my AE900 handshaking with my Monoprice HDMI switch until I did a bit of troublshooting.

I have HDMI wall plates in my room on 2 sides of the room. One is where the HDMI Switch and components are and the other is near the ceiling where the projector is connected. There is a 25' Monoprice HDMI cable run through the wall connecting the 2 wall plates. I could plug any of my 4 sources directly into the wall plate and get the AE900 to handshake. Once I put the switch in the mix, the AE900 would no longer sync and display a picture.

I could however, take the wall plates out of the equation and use the swich if I plugged the 25' cable directly into the switch at one end and the projector at the other.

I think I had too many connection points which were causing the signal to degrade just to the point where it wouldn't work.

I think your problem might be the same as mine. Too many connection points. You may need to replace the DVI Cable + HDMI Adapters with an HDMI cable to get it to work.

Another thing to try would be an HDMI Repeater or Extender to boost the signal.

Good luck.

Don't bash HD-DVD, bash HDCP. If it weren't for the anti-feature of copy-prevention, the worst you would get is a couple of "sparkles" in the picture from the signal degradation.

But because Hollywood thinks that effing over the people who actually purchase their products is a good idea, your experience is a common one. It's a private tax straight from the MAFIAA on all of our time and frustration.

(Yes I am pissed because a similar problem bit me over the weekend with an upscaling DVD player - I had a 15' VGA cable but only a 6' DVI cable, the player would only upscale over DVI with HDCP so I had to re-arrange the room until I could get a longer DVI cable.)
