So, I have a 10'x20' room in my basement. I have a DLP projector, Polk speakers and a Denon receiver. I also have a cheap Da-Lite roll up screen. The screen/TV is at one end of the 20' and the seating is toward the others, with the PJ and equipment.

The screen currently pulls down in front of a 36" TV that is located in the last 3-4 feet of the room.
The center speaker, 2 fronts and sub are all surrounding the TV. The last 3-4 feet is narrower due to a corner closet that contains a water meter.

Until tonight, I was planning on building a false wall that would use about 2' of that end - and that would enclose the 2 front speakers, the sub and a permanent screen. I was planning on moving the 36" TV to another room, since it's big and bulky (and I never use it).

Apparently the WAF of my false wall is *extremely* low. Little did I know, she had a real issue with me covering up the small window behind the TV (which I was going to blackout - and then put the false wall in front of it. It's just one of those like 1'x4' basement windows - so it doesn't let much light in or ventilation. She also wants to keep a TV down there.

It's a challenge to keep both a CRT TV (something like 38" wide, 30" tall and like 23" deep) --- and use a projector in the same room -- and somehow route multiple sources to both. Right now the TV only has a coax run. The PJ is on the far opposite wall, with an equipment rack a few feet away from it.

Has anyone else had the challenge of putting a CRT TV and a PJ in the same room? If it was a flat-screen it would be extremely easy - I could build it into the false wall.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

I don't think a flat-screen is in the budget right now...

I ran into the same exact situation. our room is 14x21 and it is a multi-purpose room. i have a 32" crt and a PJ. i mounted the PJ apporx 15-16' back from the screen. the tv already had a perfect stand it was on. and my center channel sits just below the tv about 10 inches off of the floor. the stand (from Target) originally had about 7-8 inch legs on the bottom........i cut them off, flush w/ the bottom of the stand. i needed the tv to be lower because i painted my screen on the wall behind and above the 32" tv. my ceiling is a little over 7', so w/ the tv on the stand i am limited to a 93" screen.

like i said before this a multi-purpose room that includes a treadmill, recliner, a couch, a futon and a small PC desk. i wanted to keep the 32" in there to cut bulb time down on the PJ, because we are down there alot. running on the treadmill and the kids love to hang out in there too. so the tv does help alot w/ bulb time, after all its a nice tv and it can still be as a part of the home theater.

i could try and post some pics tonight if you would like to see it.

Hey, thanks for the reply... Do you mind posting pics? I'd be curious to see what yours looks like.

I think I finally came up with a solution that I like.

The window down there is definately going to be blocked out by the false wall. I'm building (well, wood is cut need, need to assemble it) a wall that has a framed opening for a 27" TV (The 36" was moved upstairs in exchange for the 27") - and then the 48x87? (whatever 16x19 comes out to) screen above it. That way I can put GOM over the speakers and the rest of the frame, and have a screen over the TV that is removable. That way the TV is usable pretty easily and it's easily hidden.

My false wall is about 84.5" tall and 94" wide. Screen takes up the first upper 4 feet, and then the TV is about 2' tall and so that leaves a short (but do-able) 1' base for the TV.
