View Full Version : Do you Have Issue with Spiderman 2.1?
dildatonr 11-04-07, 11:14 AM This is an attempt to track players that have/ or have had issues with Spiderman 2.1 on BR.
If you vote please give a basic summary for your setup. What Model. Do you have current firmware? What AVR are you using? Are you using HDMI 1.3a cables? Has firmware corrected your problems? Have you contacted tech support for the players manufacturer?
dildatonr 11-04-07, 11:25 AM I own a Samsung 1400. Never had issues with 1 or 3.
I'm going to an Onkyo 875 with a HDMI 1.3a cable from BJC.
Initially I had freeze/lockups at branching points when bitsreaming the TruHD track. When I had the player do the decoding internally, I would get stutters that would throw the film way out of sync. Which could be solved by fast forwarding or rewinding the movie. Either way the films was unwatchable with this player. I contacted a Samsung level 2 tech a few weeks ago about these problems.
With this weeks firmware update the player no long locksup. But it still does stutter occasionally. During most notably the "rain drops.." scene and the train fight. But the audio stays in sync and overall is a minor annoyance. The movie is now watchable but not perfect.
jim.vaccaro 11-04-07, 11:39 AM Nope, I have a PS3 and it works flawlessly.
BigPines 11-04-07, 11:52 AM I have a Samsung BD-P1400 and a Sony BPD-S1. I have never had a problem playing Spider-Man 2.1 on the Sony. Right out of the box - before I applied the firmware the the Samsung, The disc had small shutters in a couple of places. After applying the 1.1 firmware, the shutters were worse (more noticable) but if you rewind the disc (without hitting stop) the shutters go away the second time you play the scene. Under firmware 1.1 the film appears to have 5 glitches. Here are the times when the glitches appear:
00:20:19 - Right after the landlord asks for rent the first time
01:11:44 - 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head' scene after the wheel goes out the window
01:17:53 - Flowers at Uncle Ben's grave
01:45:02 - Doc Oc train fight
01:46:42 - Spidey stopping runaway train
I am bitstreaming regular DD 5.1 audio via SPDIF and using component video at 1080i. I am not using HDMI at all.
This is the only title (BD or SD) I have had glitches with on the Samsung. I have not yet had a chance to contact Samsung but will do so next week.

dildatonr 11-04-07, 12:05 PM From all the other various threads I've read it seems Sony players are not having issues with these discs. Which makes sense since it's a Sony title.
I know a lot of Samsung owners are having/had issues but I'm most curious about Phillips and Panny owners.

I agree.

Same here. Well, there was what looked like one frame missing or skipping after the extra 2 seconds of footage inserted into the pizza parlor scene at the beginning of the movie, but otherwise it was totally seamless.
Which bodes well for Blade Runner next month. Since I have no idea what to except from Toshiba's players, I'll go ahead and get that on Blu-ray.
jim.vaccaro 11-04-07, 01:02 PM As a PS3 owner, one thing I can say is that this disc seemed to be made for the PS3. It's the only Sony disc I've seen that shows up as a little icon with the movie title in the XMB. All other BDs just show up as "BDMV". Also there's a splash screen with a Spider logo that loads up when the movie starts. Kind of different.
UxiSXRD 11-04-07, 01:19 PM No problems. PS3 to Denon AVR 4306 (thence to 60XBR1 SXRD).

Bram Stoker's Dracula also did it. I didn't notice with Rise of the Silver Surfer because it was already in title by the time my Harmony activity switched from "Watch HDTV" to "Watch Blu-ray".
Rachael Bellomy 11-04-07, 01:33 PM No problemo con Panny.....using HDMI audio to an 805. Magnifico, si?

voyager6 11-04-07, 01:48 PM I have a BH100 with the july 07 firmware. 1 and 3 played fine, although it is not clear if the scenes in the opening menu are supposed to be smooth or not in 3.
I experienced occasional audio drop outs in 2.1. Video seemed to play fine. I did see out of sync audio, but paused and restarted and all was well.

+1, as usual. :)
khwiggins2 11-19-07, 02:27 PM Panasonic DMP-BD30K -> HDMI (bitstream) -> Denon AVR-3808ci -> HDMI -> Toshiba 72HM195
latest firmware loaded on Denon, no new firmware avail for panny. Spiderman 2 plays fine, but in the menu's, I'm unable to select Spiderman 2.1. When I try highlighting 2.1, it moves back to 2.0 every time, almost like 2.1 was disabled. Could this be because I have the panny configured for bitstream?
mchamblissII 11-19-07, 11:13 PM ya i have a problem with my spiderman 2.1 and i have a ps3. It just the one scene in the begining. I just skip over it and works fine.
hAPPY1977 11-20-07, 12:50 AM PS3 here and no probs at all.
hamsterxcore 11-20-07, 01:01 AM PS3 and flawless like every other movie.
shadowrage 11-20-07, 01:35 AM PS3 and it works properly.
I hated this movie when I saw it in theaters. I bought it on DVD last year and hated it even more.
But on BD it's fantastic. I never knew how awesome the sound design was. I think it sounds better than S3. And with the new visuals the story pacing doesn't bother me a bit. It's probably my favorite of the three now.
Plus that bass when the lasers hit the tritium is probably the coolest sounding thing on a disc(no lightsabers on BD:().
giantchicken 11-20-07, 02:11 AM This will sound redundant, but I have a PS3 with the latest update, and no problems whatsoever with Spidey.
Quetzalcoatl 11-20-07, 03:14 AM You missed a major CE Pioneer. But no problems here with mine.
42Plasmaman 11-20-07, 10:27 AM Movie stuttered for a second during the scene when MJ was in the background in the kitchen when they were celebrating Peter's birthday.
Stopped, rewind, replay and no stutter.
No other issues with the movie.
BD-P1200 FW v2.0
1.3 HDMI cable
Addicted2HD4Now 11-20-07, 12:45 PM I have a Panny BD30 and the disc plays fine. Only problem I've encountered is the audio/video gets out of sync from the middle toward the end of the movie. Beginning is perfectly in sync.
ncinsguy 02-20-08, 12:04 AM i have the sony bd-301 and 2.1 just locked up on me when peter and his aunt are in the bank, couldn't skip, ff, rr or anything just locked up. any fixes out there for this?

no problems with it using PowerDVD Ultra (loads fast too), but i could not vote because my player option is not on your poll.
DavidHir 02-20-08, 05:21 PM I had a lip sync issue using a BD30 player.
micks_address 02-21-08, 09:23 AM on my ps3, the disc takes an age to load, often comes up with disc errors - will eventually load..
jkcheng122 08-26-08, 10:20 PM i just discovered this issue with my Spiderman 2.1. for some reason i'm not able to select the 2.1 option, the cursor would jump back to theatrical cut.
