vwbeetlvr 11-04-07, 11:17 PM this thread is poppin like my sisters lip-glossin
I'm kinda pissed off that there's no splitscreen over LIVE.. the last COD had it, I know it was made by a diff company but damn. I guess it's not that big of a deal but I was pretty much expecting it. Still picking it up tomorrow.. see you guys online

I fully agree, those that like online splitscreen got screwed. The one thing COD3 did right COD4 does not have...
Here's a statement from an IW employee as to the reason why it was excluded at the OCD forums.
"Hey everybody,
Since I'm the guy that said no SS over LAN and no SS over Live I'll try to respond. First, let me say we would have loved to do it... this falls into the category of "you can do anything you want, you just can't do everything you want."
Rationale...
The team worked constantly for 2 years, there is no spare time, so for a new feature to make the cut that means something else of equal implementation-time would have had to be removed instead. Lazy isn't really an issue.
The idea was to prefer the MP features that everyone would get to enjoy in every game they played. That said, as the engine grows over time we get to add more specific features that cater to special cases.
Tech Issues...
SS over Live and SS over LAN are non-trivial features. The more ghetto your implementation the easier it is, but we tend to want to do things well or not do them at all. CoD 3's implementation is really a non-factor since that was a different developer with an entirely different network architecture.
SS over LAN is the easier of the two. Assuming you could have one, would you rather have SS over LAN or SS over LIVE?
Frame rate...
For those of you who often do SS over LAN -- what kind of framerate do you find playable? 20hz? Would you be fine with the server box being 1-player only?"
Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me!
chrisherbert 11-05-07, 11:56 AM Splitscreen over live was a cool feature in theory for COD3, but I learned to dread when anyone with a with a (1) after their name joined my team. Almost guaranteed team killer.
IndyStylee 11-05-07, 12:06 PM This game goes through maps fast enough, and is fun enough, that my buddies never seemed to mind waiting their turn. It's different than say watching one of your buddies spend 30-40 minutes playing a game of madden online. Woulda been a nice feature, but I would only play 1 player anyway.... I can't play well when sharing the screen.
danggang 11-05-07, 01:01 PM I know this issue has been beaten to death already in other threads, but it remains absolutely mind boggling to me that this game doesn't include co-op play of any type. Wow.
dogmanky 11-05-07, 01:13 PM I know this issue has been beaten to death already in other threads, but it remains absolutely mind boggling to me that this game doesn't include co-op play of any type. Wow.
Well I havent had the time to read all the other threads.. and this is amazing. no co-op? Wtf? Quite possibly a deal breaker for me.
dbburns 11-05-07, 01:16 PM ^^^Agreed. Well, not a deal breaker for me, but a definite disappointment. That should be a requirement for current gen games. Gears of War's was still the best, being able to jump in and out of people's games.
And where are the reviews for this game? I'm surprised there aren't more out there by now.
jasonstiller 11-05-07, 01:24 PM No co-op is a big dissapointment for me :( That said, im still picking it up on release day.
I don't use it much.. but I have buddies that come over once in a while, or my little cousin and they like shooters, so sometimes we would fire up GRAW2 and we could play... Like I said I wouldn't use it THAT much, but just kinda sucks I won't have the option to do it when the opportunity arises.
Oh well, I'm sure I'll still have fun, sitting up till 2am after the wife goes to bed and drinking beer playing this one!!
danggang 11-05-07, 02:12 PM ^^^Agreed. Well, not a deal breaker for me, but a definite disappointment. That should be a requirement for current gen games. Gears of War's was still the best, being able to jump in and out of people's games.
Yeah, despite the lack of co-op support I'm still picking up CoD4 tomorrow. But I couldn't agree more that Gears did it right; why don't other developers clue in on this? Of course it's not possible to please absolutely everyone, but we're talking about a specific game genre here; the group such games appeal to is not universal to begin with (i.e., the point was never to please everyone). Given that we have a number of such games that already offer single player and co-op campaign and full featured online multiplayer, expecting these features in a $60 game that's been in development for 2+ years is by no means unreasonable. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying this should become a standard from now on.
Anyway, I'll stop with the critical remarks now and enjoy the game for what it is :).
properbostonian 11-05-07, 02:43 PM For this game, I could care less about coop over XBL. For other games, like Gears and Halo3, it was important to me.
Regardless, I am certain MP will blow us away and keep us coming back for many, many months.
I guess it goes to show that trades have to be made. Halo 3 seemed to cram every possible feature into it, giving up a touch on the graphics/framerate side of things. It will be interesting to hear what people think.
Only thing halo3 is good for is $30 towards COD4.
Mark_Likes_Games 11-05-07, 03:27 PM I thought this one might be a contender for an alternative to Halo 3 for 8 player LAN games... looks like that's not an option. Will games of 2 on 2 be any fun?
vwbeetlvr 11-05-07, 03:48 PM Only thing halo3 is good for is $30 towards COD4.
AMEN brother!
GrooveRite 11-05-07, 04:17 PM Only thing halo3 is good for is $30 towards COD4.
Thats ok....not everyone is good at Halo 3. :D
chartwel 11-05-07, 04:18 PM the game is fun, but man its just COD2 all over. if thats fine with you, then definitely buy it. graphics are decent, framerate is definitely solid.......
Finally a review.

And quite an enthusiastic one, at that!
There is no amount of hype that could get gamers ready for what Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare actually is, the perfect game. Everything about the game is not perfect but overall it deserves the score below, a perfect 10.
:D
Mindwarper 11-05-07, 06:02 PM The commercial looks great. The lack of split screen is fine. The lack of co op is disappointing. I will get it when it drops in price most likely. No co op in this era seems strange.

It's probably referring to the score at the bottom of the page. I could be wrong, though.

Good stuff!
I'm enjoying it so far. Good stuff.
action_jackson 11-05-07, 09:06 PM I ordered mine last night, can't wait for it to get here. I would have liked to have seen some type of split screen, me and my wife like to play together, but it was not a deal breaker for me. We will probably be fighting over controller over this one though, lol.

You are a lucky man. My woman could care less about any of this. Not to say I'm not lucky for other reasons, but this is one area where I wish she was more understanding.
....as for COD4....I'm still waiting for another working 360...pos white box
LAKE4742 11-05-07, 10:39 PM I'm jumping right into the multiplayer tommorrow. I gotta level up to 55 as soon as possible-so many perks. This is the first time, I'll play multiplayer before campaign.
The OXM review is also a perfect 10. I think we're in for one helluva ride. Could be the GOW AND HALO3 multiplayer killer.
Stangs55 11-05-07, 11:31 PM From the few COD4 mp games I've played thus far, GOTY.
H3 wins in the innovation department with the Forge and video features...but for pure gameplay, COD4 is in a league of its own.
"Death From Above" one of my favorite levels of all time.
LAKE4742 11-05-07, 11:58 PM F**k, I can't wait! I'm off to work, but tommorrow, I hope this game truly wows me! Trust, your all getting owned! Level 55, here I come! See you online, ooops I mean, be killing you online very soon, suckas! Bring it!:p
flashfunk 11-06-07, 12:35 AM "Death From Above" one of my favorite levels of all time.
Agreed, I only played the game for a couple hours, but this is definitely one of the best levels I've ever played in a video game.
Reminds me of some real life military videos I've seen.
Stangs55 11-06-07, 01:38 AM lol, actually my biggest complaint so far is that there are no real multiplayer achievements. I was really hoping for some very hard to gain MP acheivements that I'd have to work a while to gain....instead there's nothing :( Oh well, if that's the biggest problem with COD4, then I'll take it :)

you dont think 55 levels of goodies, the rinse and repeat with prestige mode up to 10 times for all new icons isn't just a good as "achievments"????????

Badges for 1000 sniper kills, medals for kill streaks, accuracy, flag captures, etc etc would be cool.
They could have your profile of a soldier, and rank on your sleeves with ribbons & badges, etc.
The rinse & repeat was a good idea. I wish it wasn't so easy to level up though.
scotty144 11-06-07, 06:42 AM I had the demo for a few weeks, has much been changed or added to the final version?
kwaidonjin 11-06-07, 07:33 AM for those of you with both consoles, what compelled you to get the 360 version? I am kind of torn to which one to get, but will probablu get 360 version because of the better controller.
The campaign is nothing but a classic. Yeah, I hear it's short but very intense! Multiplayer is smooth as butter and the level designs are some of the best to date.
About leveling up....played 4 1/2 hours yesterday and made it to lev22. So, it's pretty fast.
orogogus 11-06-07, 08:51 AM Did they change any core mechanics from the beta?
It sounds like FF is on or is an option?
Autoaim an option to disable?
Can you still use 2 rifles?
Party system still wonky/broken?
Recoil still more or less non-existent on the m16/m4?
How are the new unlockable weapons? Worth it or for style point only?
Inquiring minds stuck outside the US and away from their 360 want to know...
How many here are actually playing it, is it really worth getting? I am disappointed its only single campaign player, visually is it near or at next generation in graphics?
Did they change any core mechanics from the beta? No.
It sounds like FF is on or is an option? Friendly fire? If so, its off with the option to turn on in custom games.
Autoaim an option to disable? Don't know, haven't checked
Can you still use 2 rifles? Yes
Party system still wonky/broken? Works great!
Recoil still more or less non-existent on the m16/m4? Same as beta
How are the new unlockable weapons? Worth it or for style point only? I'm lev22 and I haven't unlocked weapons that I didn't have on the beta, so don't know.
So which console has the edge for this game? 360 or PS3?
Every review I've read says the frame rate is rock solid, the visuals are stunning, and the gameplay is fantastic, but none compare the two rival machines.
lynesjc 11-06-07, 10:13 AM IGN review: 9.4/10
SP is only 5-6 hours, major bummer.

The PS3 is lacking something the Xbox has, but I can't remember. I want to say its the leaderboards or party invite. Anyway, it has something to do with online play.
beach scrub 11-06-07, 10:42 AM The 360 has Trueskill ranking.
One thing we're still waiting to see is how balanced online play will be with level 1 players squaring off against those who've already attained the highest level and majority of equipment. An Activision representative told us Xbox 360 gamers would be sorted by their TrueSkill ranking, whereas such a feature isn't planned for the PS3 version.

I played last night and I was at lvl 8, playing against a lvl 32 and a lvl 1.

I grabbed my copy from "Game Crazy" down in Wilmington California, (southbay) last night around 5:45pm - I am at the office now, drowsy, groggy and looking for an excuse to go back home...
One word.... AWESOME!!!

Mainly because it's been out for all of a day. Try back in a month when there's plenty of gamers and seperation.
for those of you with both consoles, what compelled you to get the 360 version? I am kind of torn to which one to get, but will probablu get 360 version because of the better controller.
This was my dilemma; I opted for the 360 version due to "better" control handling, rumble and for some reason I just prefer my 360 over my PS3 most of the time... The controller on the 360 feels heavy and rock solid...
When I picked up Skate, I opted for the 360 version as well...
I got my PS3 for exclusive titles (MGS4, FFXIII + ) and for blu-ray movie watching...
maximuslcd 11-06-07, 11:06 AM The game seems to be pretty solid, and thank goodness the IW did this game instead of Treyarch, I had so many conn issues with cod3 that it was unplayable, as did many others.
It seems the matchmaking systems is still under construction? I selected find quick game and it put me in a lobby with me as the host, I invited a few friends and we played for a wehile and then relaized that none of us were getting XP...so if you make a private room to play with only friends you'll get no xp= no ranking up...
I really enjoyed the game and the new maps seem really nice..cod4 is a 9.7 in my book. Hope to see alot of fellow avs peeps online
Myrtledog 11-06-07, 11:12 AM Anyone know if CC is selling it yet? Calling the store is useless when you get morons answering the phone.

Should be. CC here had it in yesterday on the truck.

I have nothing against PS3 owners or the PS3 in general, but this is precisely why I don't want or need a PS3. How does one decide? It would drive me crazy. :D
dr hypothesis 11-06-07, 12:12 PM WalMart, BestBuy, GameStop.... NOBODY has this game. Ugh...
Same here, can't find it anywhere, they all say they haven't recieved there shipments?
Mindwarper 11-06-07, 12:33 PM I also have both and pick the 360 because: most of my friends have a 360 and achievments!!!
But I have a ps3 for exclusives, blu ray and bc. I love how the old classics look. SSX3 is still a great game.

jasonstiller 11-06-07, 12:45 PM Picking up the 360 version this afternoon. It was a hard decision but ultimatley it came down to xbox live vs. PS3 online capabilities, all my friends have a 360, controller feels better and has rumble.
Anyone know if CC is selling it yet? Calling the store is useless when you get morons answering the phone.
Tell me about it... I walked into one last night, after I picked up my copy at GameCrazy, and the guy was obviously lying about not having any copies. Interesting enough, his co-worker kept chuckling and snickering the whole time... I pulled out my receipt and showed him that I owned the 360 copy... he just shrugged his shoulders...
Chris89Stang 11-06-07, 12:56 PM Anyone know if CC is selling it yet? Calling the store is useless when you get morons answering the phone.
I picked it up from CC about an hour ago. They didn't have it on the shelves yet but they had them behind the front counter. I just had to ask for one.
Max Lomax 11-06-07, 01:00 PM I scored mine about an hour ago as well, off to the theater for 16-18 hrs...
WilliamR 11-06-07, 01:02 PM Is it really only a 5 hour game for single player?

I plan to stop at BB tonight after work, but if it's not on the shelves, what's the point?
Is it really only a 5 hour game for single player?
If you're worried, just select a harder difficulty.
Dead.Horse 11-06-07, 01:10 PM I think all of the 5-6 hour SP is BS, unless you have the game on easy and blow through it.
I just went to BB online and they have the option to order the game online and pick it up in the store. Hopefully they'll come back with it being in stock and I can pick it up on the way home.
briankrich 11-06-07, 01:45 PM At around 8:30 this morning I went to a Wal-Mart and a Target, no dice. Called Best Buy at 10:00 when they opened, they had it. Having trouble working and playing at the same time...Definite MP action tonight!
Answered my own question:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164005
Short answer - Rock Band guitar will not work with GH II or III...
Harmonix are really a bunch of poo-heads. What the #$&# am I supposed to do now? I already have GH II and the Xplorer for the 360. So let's say I get GH III and it's Les Paul controller. Now I can play GH II, III and Rock Band with two guitars. But what about the other instruments in Rock Band? Will they sell the microphone and drum kit separately? Given Harmonix's track record of screwing their fans, I would say the answer is no.
FrostyMelon 11-06-07, 01:51 PM The game fricking ROCKS!

Yesterday was the release day but there where only a couple of stores selling it. Places like CC or BB say they will have it on the shelves by 2pm today. I just happened to go during my lunch hour and got it early.

EMAGDNIM 11-06-07, 02:01 PM I picked up my pre order (LE) on the way to class today. Now I've got a big problem...I have a report due in two days and I know if I open it, I'm not going to finish till the wee hours the night before...
It's going to be a hard two days...
NeonMcGurk 11-06-07, 02:06 PM Why does this happen??? I can't figure out why the videogame industry seems to have such a hard time with release dates. I go to Wal-Mart and Target and there are rows of Rataouille and Seinfeld (Which came out today) and no Call of duty. They tell me they "may" have it in today, but they won't know for sure until 2:00. Meanwhile Gamestop claims they only have enough for the preorders. It's infuriating! I only have a 1 hour lunch, so now I have to go way out of the way after work with my wife nagging and complaining in the hopes that Someone might have gotten it in this afternoon. Man we need a BB or CC in this town. Anyone understand why this semms to happen so often?
danggang 11-06-07, 02:47 PM Just picked-up my copy from the local BB. I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago using the "Pre-order now for in store pickup when it arrives" option. Yesterday I got an automated email from BB saying my order would be ready for pickup anytime today during business hours. I was a bit skeptical, but at lunch I stopped by to check. When I walked in they had a CoD4 display table set up, but only the collector's edition was on it. At the CS desk, they hunted around for a while and then eventually gave me a box set containing the game bundled with a DVD of Behind Enemy Lines. The rep said they don't have "just the game" yet, but offered me the box set for the same price. Plus, BB's policy when you order online for in store pickup is that if you have to wait more than 1 minute you get $10 off, so I took advantage of that :).
2.5 hours to go at the office...

It's good you got the extra $10 off. However, there is no price difference between the game and the game+movie package.
FrankJ.Cone 11-06-07, 04:13 PM Ok I am on the third level and I am less than 100% satisfied with the single player. If I see "you were killed by a grenade" one more time... the AI is sticky, that is it goes after YOU no matter where you are. It "sees" through walls and can get a grenade to you no matter what. The AI will actually walk past 2 of your guys (who will miss the enemy AI!) and come at you point blank if they do not have a grenade to throw.
I also noticed that in a room with a floor so shiny everything in the room is reflected... you are not.
I am also taken out of the experience by the locked doors everywhere. Too much Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six I guess but it seems like a huge step backwards for FPS.
IMHO the IW gameplay style form CoD2 is better suited to outdoor areas than indoors and it just stands out in the indoor sections. (Again IMHO)
FrostyMelon 11-06-07, 04:35 PM ^It has single player? Wow...bonus!
(j/k - haven't touched it, too busy with MP)
I haven't played yet, but in the manual it says in the multiplayer section that there is splitscreen for up to 4 players?? I'm guessing that was not meant to be printed?
OpenMindGamer 11-06-07, 04:54 PM I guess it's splitscreen for local play only.
I guess it's splitscreen for local play only.

KlDesigns 11-06-07, 06:45 PM How are the graphics compared to Rainbow Six Vegas, Gears of War and Bioshock?
Does it look as good as any of the 3 mentioned?
FrostyMelon 11-06-07, 06:47 PM ^Yes, it does.
Max Lomax 11-06-07, 09:12 PM Best game ever. Melon popping extacy.

In this case, you need to be inside the container to pick up the object on top of the bomb.

LAKE4742 11-06-07, 11:46 PM First day Multiplayer review:
On the realistic side of things: COD4 is much better than GRAW2. But...
there is one thing that prevents this game from superior status: an over-the-shoulder, or third-person view option-for just a little more breathing room;
yeah, the game is great, but, GOW is more revolutionary in terms of physics; and once you've played with such a realistic (and necessary) cover system- you miss it (no matter what new game comes out); even Roadie Running is missed (I don't like holding down the left thumbstick to run); although, I assume playing at level 5 is much different than playing at level 55. The perks are awesome (and much needed)!
In closing: I leveled up to Corporal, and then played some GOW. But, I wanted to get right back into COD4 (probaly because it's the new scene). If I could only have one, it would STILL be GOW. I haven't tried the campaign- I'm sure I'll enjoy it. But, the gameplay of GOW has a spell on me-not to mention the best graphics-STILL.
COD4 is a great MP experience! Leveling up-!
BillKen 11-06-07, 11:54 PM Press and hold X to reload/interact with objects.
In this case, you need to be inside the container to pick up the object on top of the bomb.
Thanks but that wasn't it. For whatever reason - after I saved/restarted - one of the team members actually went and opened up the big container so I could go inside and secure the package - before that - none of the guys would open it up they all just stood there like dolts. :) Weird...but I'm rockin' now.
LR6AGB001 11-07-07, 03:57 AM I noticed this too, for your teammates to progress you'll need to advance ahead of them. You'll notice this while in the TV station searching for Al-Asad
You'll need to walk right in front of the doors for your mates to open them.

COD4 is a great MP experience! Leveling up-!
you don't have to hold it down. just click it once and you'll continue running until you get tired. use the extreme conditioning perk and you'll run a lot longer.
IndyStylee 11-07-07, 08:10 AM So I said i'd exercise patience and not drive all over looking for it....and I kind of did. It just so happened that the BB on my way home had the game. I played the first 2 levels of singleplayer and think it is awesome. The night vision/laser effects are super cool! I made it to level 7 last night in multiplayer, and I can't wait to put in another 3-4 hours tonight. So far it seems like the multiplayer community is more mature than halo 3....not a whole lot more mature though!
I'm going to be playing this game for a long, long time.
GT: rabidhilljack
I'm pretty good at this game...hit me up if you want a teammate
IndyStylee 11-07-07, 08:12 AM Oh, and they sold me the game without removing the plastic security box. It took me almost 20 minutes to get that stupid box off using a screwdriver and a pair of plyers! I guess those boxes work pretty well. I totally should have just turned around and had them remove it when I noticed that on my way home...woulda saved me 15 minutes! I was just too excited...and I undermined the trickyness of that stupid plastic box.
properbostonian 11-07-07, 08:19 AM Only played for about two hours last night. Campaign only. Loved every minute of it. It looks great and the controls are tight. I actually felt a little seasick on the first mission. :)
I started off on the 2nd level but it was too easy. I restarted on the hardest level and it is challenging, for me anyway.
How did you guys do on the training mission? My best time was 23.15 and that was pure luck and after 25 attempts! I was trying to break 20 seconds.
BillKen 11-07-07, 08:33 AM I actually felt a little seasick on the first mission. :)
Same here - I wasn't sure if I was just overly tired or it was the boat. :)
BoomerBrian 11-07-07, 08:37 AM and once you've played with such a realistic (and necessary) cover system- you miss it (no matter what new game comes out);
While cover systems are great in games they don't make the game more realistic. In Gears and RB6 when you are in cover you can see around corners and objects which is very unrealistic.
WilliamR 11-07-07, 08:59 AM Just about finished with the game, overall pretty impressive. WAY dissapointed the single player is so short. MP looked okay, but there was nearly zero communication among the team, guess I need to hook up with my friends instead. Any rate, graphics are impressive, not as good as other games out there (I think Bioshock has better graphics consistently). A lot in COD was awesome, but there was some things that where bland or plain. Best facial features in a game in a long time, nice details. Weapons are good, not overally impressive but they get the job done. Great sound effects in the game, on a surround sound system it really sounds impressive with nice use of distant sounds. If I have to nit pick I would say I don't like missions in a FPS that you have to run. The ship part was lame in my opinion. I am playing a shooter game, I don't want to have to sprint around a ship and try to keep up with the team. Also, the first part of the game where the credits are going and you are being driven around in a car, at first, its awesome, then it drags on WAY longer then it needs to and got boring.
Some pretty minor nit picking, overall the best COD game yet, not the best game out there and definitely not the best FPS game out there, but its in the top tier of games on the 360 right now and a must have for anyone's library of games.

I do wish you could lean around walls in COD4, somehow, though.
Awesome game so far. I felt sea sick as well during the first mission. I guess a 102" screen will do that to you. Great game though, multi-player is VERY fast.

I don't see how it's possible to get under 15 seconds on that damn thing!

I found the first level pretty interesting, since you just joined the group it is basically a tag along kind of thing, I hardly killed anyone because my teammates would do their job before I even saw the guys. The car ride scene was pretty cool to since you can look around and see all this crazy stuff going down in the streets of this messed up city. I was thinking this is a great way to start up the game.

dogmanky 11-07-07, 11:01 AM What is "the extreme conditioning perk".. lol.. I must have missed this.
Well I am ruined for ever playing R6Vegas now, the gameplay is just so fast on COD4.
Though a cover system would have been nice, I can live without it. I would rather have co-op SP and online splitscreen for COD5 but that's just me.
And that AC130 gunship level is seriously cool, hope IW gives us some down-loadable AC130 levels besides the one here (is there only 1, not yet finished SP?).
Leveled up to 13 in my 1st MP go-around, it helped having 3 weeks of "beta training".
FPS heaven...
abuharabi 11-07-07, 11:29 AM The intro to the game was great. Like an awesome action movie. I also got a little of the sea sick feeling! I noticed I was leaning really far over as the boat was rocking. I had to chuckle at just how involved I felt. I played up to and through the first level of the Marine Corps, where you switch from "Soap" to "Jackson." Pretty sweet game.
Multiplayer: SO AWESOME. I played the beta, and this was like returning to an old friend. Such a good time; I'm gonna be pressed to dedicate any time to SP.
What is "extreme conditioning...
When you hit level 5 in multiplayer, you can create custom classes with 'perks'. One of these is called 'extreme conditioning', which allows you to sprint for an extra period of time.
Max Lomax 11-07-07, 11:31 AM I could fly around in the AC-130 and blow stuff up for hours I think.
IndyStylee 11-07-07, 12:09 PM I think a cover mechanic would be pretty useless in a game that moves this fast, and since you can shoot through pretty much any wall.....I think the guy covering would actually be the one at a disadvantage. If I saw you peek around a wall I'd just light up the corner.
None of our local stores has the game yet, Walmart told me the Fedex was delayed, I will check again later, I still havn't finished Halo3 just because i want it to last longer in playing quality, like a good wine.
I'm curious in the near future if this game affects recruiting in our Armed Forces, I read from another poster that the gunfire was NO way realistic, he should know being in the thick of it. I hope this game is a positive boost for our war against terrorism albeit its still a game.
G0ldMembe12 11-07-07, 01:05 PM Played for about 2 hours last night. 30 min on campaign the rest on MP. Got up to level 10 in that hour an a half, not bad. Awesome game though, hopefully I'll get a chance to play a little tonight.
jasonstiller 11-07-07, 02:02 PM This game just oozes cool! MP ist the best ive ever played. The SP captures that same feel the previous games had. I started on hardcore or whatever (the one after normal) To me, everyone needs to start on this level. Feels alot less run and gun and alot more tactics.
lacombo 11-07-07, 03:08 PM wow, there's more talking on who has it and where to get it then the game...
I noticed they fixed the gated area in Crash that let you easily trap the other team near the garage. GREAT move there IW. The last week of the beta, that map was almost unplayable if someone did that.
Havent noticed any changes to Vacant or Overgrown.
Watch out on the Missle Silo (think it's called BOG), you can fall down the smoking sections. I accidentally did it trying to take cover and shooting. It's good for the 30ft drop challenge.
If you want to take cover next to exploding cars, wood walls and what ever else I can shoot through than go ahead and be my guess.
how are the single player achievements ??

EASY. The only tough one for me so far, is the 'under 20 seconds' in the training exercise.

It's not?!! The perks and custom classes are great! The action is so fast paced, but NEVER have I been so excited about dying and respawning-getting back into the action! And, NEVER have I been so excited about leveling up-just to see what else my guy can do! What about the Last Stand perk...talk about first-person goodness! This game is AMAZING! I would have to agree with you there. I was playing this mission last night after my daughter went to bed. My wife came downstairs and saw me playing. She thought it was "The Unit" on TV :)
When I told her it was me playing a game, her jaw dropped in amazement. I love this game :)

Well, everything you mentioned is in reference to the multiplayer. I am much more interested in good single player campaigns in my FPS so the short length of COD4's SP knocks it below titles like Bioshock and HL2:OB for me.
Even with that said, I have always been a fan of the COD games and IW has crafted masterpiece of a game with COD4. My buddies jaws were on the floor as we took turns playing the other night...
Started the story mode, wow awsome but died every 5 minutes (Hard mode).
Will play a split screen offlinemulti players tomorrow. Nice thing all classes are unlocked but not the Custom. The classes are good but some seem overpowered.
Question : If you unlock create a custom class, and create a class can you use them in offline line split screen. If someone can answer me on this.
If you have unlocked the Create A custom, Create One, Start Offline Split screen (you can play a game single), and check if you can get your new class.
Thanks !

Not referring to multi-player. Referring to just playing a FPS game. There are a lot better out there. But like you said, when you add in the multi-player stuff it does make this a top-tier game, not the best, but definitely a lot of good qualities.
LAKE4742 11-08-07, 11:07 AM I keep thinking everyone is commenting about the MP. Oh, the irony! The moment I care more about the MP, all of the talk is about SP, geesh; I think Bioshock is the best FPS experience, right now; As far as COD4 SP, I haven't touched it , and won't until my quest of level 55 is realized; I'm just too anxious to see what other abilities I'll be able to use in MP; which brings me to this question, for anyone: Is a level 55 soldier equal to the soldier in the campaign?; Are there lots of perk-like abilities available in the campaign from the start?; I assume perks such as Last Stand aren't in the campaign, because, well, it's for a last stand; but, are most weapons and abilities available for custimization (which allows more freedom to complete objectives however we want)? Or, are you given certain tools only for specific situations a la GRAW? Thanks.

No perks in the SP (that I have seen anyway and I am pretty far on hardcore). You continue each level with the last gun you had but you can (and probably will) pick up other guns from bodies as you go.
assasyn 11-08-07, 11:37 AM I'm in love with this game, but one thing Halo has up on this is bungie.net stats. If Infinity Ward could add some web support, I feel they would have just as good MP experience.
flashfunk 11-08-07, 11:44 AM Having finished both Bioshock and COD4 within the last week, as a total package I prefer COD4. In my opinion the only thing that Bioshock trumps COD4 is in the storyline department.
The COD4 single player had more visually stunning moments, but Bioshock had more of an immersive environment. The framerate in COD4 seems a lot smoother, and the FPS controls feel way tighter. Throw in probably the best multiplayer experience on the 360 yet, and COD4 is the reigning king of 360 FPS's IMO.
Hey, What about my question, take less than a minute to check !

clevername 11-08-07, 03:15 PM I find it odd that a game that seems to be geared toward MP, has no online achievements.
I was surprised by that, as well.
I'm a SP guy first. What MP has done to SP games kills me. For an insanely good game like this to be released with a SP game that won't last most folks long but an MP game that will to not have MP achievements is weird, even if there are some goals or whatever you're supposed to get online.
I find myself trying to achieve the online goals moreso than any "achievements" they could've made.. W/ the goals your actually being rewarded w/ more than a couple points on your gamerscore.
assasyn 11-08-07, 03:44 PM Basically there are a lot of "goals" to achieve online, you just don't get the cute popup
That sound makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Zappcatt 11-08-07, 03:59 PM What about the Last Stand perk...talk about first-person goodness!
Have they fixed that so it is "more" realistic?
In the beta, it would suck to chase a guy down from behind and fill him with bullets..only to have his character instantly be on the ground, turned 180 degrees from the way he was running and shooting you with his pistol..when he was holding a rifle when killed...and dieing from a single pistol shot/burst.
That was the WORST part of the whole beta.
jeffLebowski 11-08-07, 04:59 PM Honestly, I'm not really sure I'd worry about the length of the campaign. CoD2 wasn't particularly long either, but I must have played it through at least 10 times. The CoD games are insanely replayable, especially when you attempt all the difficulty levels. Their core action never really gets old.
I'm a mainly single player guy myself and I'm in no way disappointed with CoD4's campaign. As soon as I finished it I had to resist the urge to immediately start a new game on a higher difficulty.
Toss in some extremely deep and addictive multiplayer, and I think CoD4 is well worth the 60 bucks.

Rakesh.S 11-08-07, 07:08 PM Is there a way to open a party only voice chat? For instance if myself and two of my buddies wanted to have a private chat, is this possible?
Actually, i was thinking about this yesterday...It would be pretty slick if they allowed you to have a party only chat when you're sitting in the pre-game lobby. Switching between the game channel and party channel on the fly with one of the bumpers and change the color of the speaker icon depending on which chat you're in would be pretty cool.
Half the time, there's a guy in the lobby that did a little too much meth..

Flyhigh 11-08-07, 10:12 PM I can't figure out how to use the claymores in online multiplayer (Not ranked). LAKE4742 11-08-07, 11:19 PM After playing in the big Ground War team deathmatches (8-18 players) today-I was ready to bad-mouth the game; because the action is soooo fast, and I die a whole lot more than getting kills; but, I went back to the smaller Domination (6-12) and Free-For-All (4-8), and once again, I can hold my head up high; I prefer more smaller matches for a little more tactical play-although I'm sure the big team matches mimick real warfare-which doesn't make it so fun for gaming; but, that's great to have all of the options available; I can't wait to try some Team Tactical (4-6).
formulanerd 11-09-07, 12:03 AM I can't figure out how to use the claymores in online multiplayer (Not ranked). when you press the d-pad you should be holding a claymore in your hand... use the right trigger to plant it, and an enemy stepping in front of it will trigger it... great when you're in a room and worried about someone sneaking up on you, just claymore the door behind you :)
Its no Halo killer, if any fault it would have is that its a little bit closer to what real modern warfare is, so I like having the Halo type of game where its basically aliens as the enemy. Halo has an immersive effect of a fantasy sci-fi aspect while COD4 leaves me with vivid after images of eyes with death looks, speaking of this game is surreal in mimicking almost human expressions and facial movements.
COD4 is awesome in its fluidity, the minor visuals are the best I have seen and the AI the best in any FPS, but its definitely not a Halo type of game and having the Master Chiefs dialogue sets it apart in that respect. This game has broken the molds and hopefully the following FPS games will work upon this and improve even more so, worth the money in all respects.
ultracat 11-09-07, 01:59 PM I don't think custom classes are available offline. I could be wrong; been wrong before :)
It's actually a brilliant and calculated move. There are zillions of achievement whores / boosters out there. They wanted to make sure you weren't getting stuck in rooms with a bunch of douches saying 'this is an achievement match, ok? So, nobody kill anybody'.
Anyone having issues keeping your team together when finding a match? My friends have played all week with a team of 3 friends. Last night there was 5 and 6 of us. Over half the matches would start and we were missing 1 or 2 and had to back out.

I didn't think so. The gun ship mission was a fun break in game, and you do ride in a truck at the end of the game, but in the single player at least I didn't miss them.

Before the dog claims you as it's chew toy, press the right stick down. It should show up on screen but the correct time is right before he bites you. Did it a couple of times myself but easily downed by your handgun. Cleared One Shot, One Kill mission btw. That was hectic.

You have to wait until the dog gets you by the throat and then you hit the melee button and you'll break the dog's neck.(right stick button) It works fine with one dog attacking you but I always die when there is multiple dogs, so I end up mowing them down with a gun.

Anyhow, I am going to play through the SP before starting the MP.
Enjoy!
newfmp3 11-10-07, 10:18 PM going through it again on veteran, and it can get frustrating on this level. Some leves are pure luck it seems.
Amazing game though. It's not often I finish a game, then immediately play through it again. The campaign is again seriously too short, but because of the pace of it all, you really do need to go through it again just to see things you missed
Considerably better then Halo3

I cant say I was too happy about one particular story twist but the last scene was pretty cool so I guess I will forgive them.
I had a little trouble with the controls....I dont know they werent where I thought they should be somehow. I havent explored if they can be customized. I mean everything worked well, as long as I was hitting the right buttons.
Visuals are awesome, environmental sounds were awesome, voice acting was great. Weapons were great, the anti tank weapons being awesome as were the gun ships. The battles were frantic as they should be in a war. Sometimes I didnt really know where I was going, I think the briefings could have used more work but the in between cutscenes were nice... sniper worked nice... I guess the only not great things I can say is that the flashbangs didnt really seem to affect the enemy and I had to shoot dogs.
I played on Normal. I will now play on veteran but I have no idea how I will possibly be able to complete it considering how many times I was shot on Normal....but we will see.
Nice tag btw.
Max Lomax 11-11-07, 10:30 AM Did anyone try shooting the dog that is eating the dead body on the ghillie suit level? The music stops as if you just did something really really bad and then boy you better get ready..

I have the your show sucks achievement but I think I will save that new record one for last as it will require multiple replays. I am replaying on vet now and trying to get the collectables.

I started the game all over at the Bog mission and got both achievements.

COD4 and The Orange Box do the same thing to me. I can only play for 15-30 min intervals.
Awesome game! Prob the most intense FPS ive ever played, and its TOUGH in some spots. Im stuck now down in the missle area after going down the vents. Guess ill keep doing it over till I finally get thru it :D
I LOVED the AC-130 and ghilly suit missions!
Anyone playing this game on Veteran, I'm on One Shot, One Kill which is the mission after the Ghillie Suit mission. It's damn near impossible, handgun & sniper rifle against countless enemies with AK-47s is a bit much. Any tips?
If you haven't made it past this point yet, here is what I did. Its kind of cheap, but after playing this level for hours I didn't care.
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read) I'm assuming you made it past the first wave which is fairly easy given all the claymores, etc. that you're equipped with and got the first checkpoint. Once you hit this checkpoint, the next phase is the REALLY tough part when a ton of helo's come and drop soldiers into your area. I stayed on the right side near the 'ticket booth' for the ferris wheel, opposite Capt. MacMillian, and when the helo's come, I picked off the guys as they roped down in the first helo as they grabbed the rope. I then picked off the soldiers in the second and closest helo to my position. I didn't use my C4 previously, so I threw some C4 packs behind and on the ferris wheel and near the ticket booth. I then ran and hid in a prone position beside/behind the pavilion. The soldiers will NOT follow you over to this area. Be careful though because if you go too far you'll end up in a radioactive area and be killed for sure. Once the helo arrived, I set off the C4 and tossed some grenades where I saw some enemy soldiers. At some point, they'll tell you that you have 30 sec. to get on the chopper so you'll really have to move quickly. I didn't worry about picking off any other enemies. I just picked up the Capt. and ran for the helo. I ran behind the ferris wheel for some cover as well and I made it to the helo just in time. Honestly, this mission was SOOOOO difficult on Veteran I don't know how anyone could beat it without doing this. Good luck!
properbostonian 11-12-07, 10:17 AM dboss - thanks for the info. I tried at least 15 times getting through that last night on Veteran. Everything I tried failed. I couldn't even get through the first wave. I didn't notice the claymores (it was late, around 2AM). I'll try this when I get home tonight.
abuharabi 11-12-07, 12:30 PM I actually threw the controller on that last part of the sniper level...twice.
mpalmieri1203 11-12-07, 01:03 PM The ghillie suit mission is so impossible that I would say that at this point it has ruined the game for me. I do not understand how to get past it at all. The guys and dogs I jsut dont get it. I have followed advice online and can not beat it. The entire game has been of a mild difficulty on hardened for me up until this. It is crap considering the preivous half of this mission was really cool.
IndyStylee 11-12-07, 01:08 PM I died a good 8 times before I pulled this off. It is all about where your standing...and dodging bullets after you've been ripped a couple of times. Very hard....even on hardened difficulty. Some cool missions await if you can get past it though. It is definitely mayhem, and an exercise in patience.
Single player campaign for this game has far exceeded my expectations. Multiplayer is just friggin awesome. All sorts of gametypes to fit your mood. I'm really diggin free for all on some of the bigger maps....love trying for headshots with the dragunov.

I just made it through this mission on hardened and it was very difficult. I dropped my partner at the drop off spot on the mound and I headed over to the far right, behind the farthest corner of the raised area with the metal rails around. I dropped off some c4 on my way over there on the farris wheel platform. They can't come from your right and you can shoot them through the bars and the ones that try to come around. Your partner carries his own weight and will be OK. Just wait it out and your copter will be there.
mpalmieri1203 11-12-07, 01:37 PM I JUST BEAT IT. What a huge sense of accomplishment!!

Yeah -- I finally beat it this way too. I would go from the right to the middle, picking guys off as the came across the raised area and through the ferris wheel.
Earlier in the level, I (not so smartly) swapped my sniper rifle for an mp5. I picked up the Dragunov and it only had 20 rounds! I eventually got through this area after some baddie dropped a G3.
The first time I made it the helicopter getting there, I got shot on my way to the chopper -- damn. Probably took me 10 or 15 tries.
This game is pretty tough and I'm just playing on normal

Yeah, I must have tried it AT LEAST 30 times last night. I woke-up this morning, had the idea I posted above and beat it on the 2nd try (grenade got me the first time) before leaving for work. This game on Veteran is probably the toughest game I've ever played in certain spots. I thought that the Moonraker mission in Goldeneye and the final battle in Gears against General Raam on Insane (by myself, no co-op) were tough, but those are final missions on the toughest difficulty. I've never had so many different points in one game where I've had to play a certain part sooooo many times like I have in CoD4. I must be getting soft too, because I haven't thrown my controller AT ALL. Part of it might be that I'm trying to be more mature and not do things I used to do all the time. :o:p
mpalmieri1203 11-12-07, 04:24 PM I have to say these last missions are just plain tedious. The are offering me no enjoyment and are realy spoiling what came before. I have had to repeat some sections 30+ times to get past them. Not my idea of fun.
The multiplayer is really alot of fun though!
The Guille Suit level must go down in gaming history as one of the greatest levels (in a game) of all time.:D
It`s one for the history books.
I had to mention it.

I agree, it was awesome. Its in 1st place ahead of the AC-130 mission.
mpalmieri1203 11-12-07, 05:08 PM The ghilie suit was pretty good up until the second half....you are directed through most of that level then suddenly I am left not knowing what the hell to do. I could understand if you were then to use the tactics taught in the first hal of the mission...but instead it's like a run like hell task....For me the second half is where the single player lost it's magic....minus the escape from the farm....some solid single player...I could not beat the least 2 portions on hardened just too difficult...I had to repeat certain parts too many times.....
This games single player campaign is pretty good on normal diffulculty, though not as good as COD2.It`s not worth playing on the harder diffulculties,it gets to frustrating at parts, and I wanna smash my controller against the wall.
The multiplayer is awesome. It is as addictive as crack.
Can`t wait for new maps to come out.:)
mpalmieri1203 11-12-07, 05:22 PM haha you've already worn the maps out? I find the diferent play styles keep things fresh. The leveling up is awesome and I really like the perks.
ferrisg 11-12-07, 05:37 PM I played on hardened and loved everything but the beginning (after taking the shot) and very end of One Shot, One Kill. Those two bits sucked, but the level in between was quite cool.
The way I eventually beat the end of that level was to actually go all the way back to the apartment buildings across from where MacMillian is sitting. The bad guys don't spawn from whatever area you're standing in, so you end up with less guys and you're predominantly behind them (aside from a few that notice you from the other spawn point and come after you). The hard part about doing it that way is the long run back to MacMillian when the chopper shows up. When I beat it they were actually loading in having just said they had run out of time and had to leave. For a second I thought it wasn't going to let me on, but after they all loaded on I was able to jump on board.
Every other part of this game was pure genius. I came into expecting at least one "hold your position against impossible odds" level, given Infinity Ward's past games, but this one definitely sucked a little more than their others.
LR6AGB001 11-12-07, 10:22 PM I JUST BEAT IT. What a huge sense of accomplishment!!
Oh yeah definitely, after seating MacMillan in the heli and listening to the closing cue I just sat back and took one heck of a breather. Those last few seconds had me nervous, to come that far and die would've really put me over the edge.
I stopped playing CoD4 SP 2 days ago, been stuck on "No Fighting in the War Room" (Veteran). Mission starts off in the hallways, you 9 minutes to complete it. Any tips on that, I'm all ears.
Just beat it myself, and what a great game! Going back and getting to play my fav missions in the arcade mode is nice. The cussing and frustration is worth it now :D

I finally did it! It was painful but it worked. Using the claymores was a huge help. I had 10 and laid them out around us. However, you cannot stand still for a long period of time and you really need to do your share of killing.
I found that going over to the right of the wheel by the staging area worked - again, thanks for the tip. Using the grenades and flashes helped too.
NOW...I am stuck on the part right after you use the javelins to kill the tanks. I killed the tanks without a problem but now there are waves and waves of enemies. This is the part that you need to get back to the LZ in fewer than three minutes. I can call in air strikes but I can’t figure out the correct sequence or the best route.
Is going through the house on your right the best route?
Playing this game on Veteran is maddening (but fun at the same time). ;)

Thats what I did on regular, but it was a pain to me on that setting. Yes though, going to the right thru that house seems to be the best way. Use the air strikes as well to help you out. Oh yeah, RUN too! :D

Congrats on completing the sniper mission! Related to the next mission, call in an air strike in the middle of the field in front of you and then head through the house on your right. MAKE SURE you clear it out first because there are soldiers coming in from the back of the house. Once out the back, call-in an air strike on the middle-left side of that open field and go around the outside of the fencing to the right and go through the downed fences towards the house with the dead cow in the back of it. Go around that house and you'll eventually make it to the checkpoint on the hill (I was near the steps) and then just haul butt to the LZ. You'll be tempted to call-in an air strike near the house to the right of the steps because A LOT of troops are down there. Trust me, don't as you'll die many, many times. I speak from experience!
From those steps just jump a few times down to take the road (with the church on your right and the downed helo on your left) and don't worry about the troops running in front of you. They totally ignore you on their way to the house on the right. If you make it down the road a little you should hit a respawn point right before the last house on your right. At this point, jump the rail and head through the house on the right. If you stay on the road to try and go around the house you'll die pretty quickly, as I did MANY, MANY times! Are you noticing a pattern? :p
When you exit the house just keep hauling ass to the LZ. You'll eventually make it to the gas station which is the LZ. At this point, call in one air strike after another on the hills above (right and left side worked for me). Once the helo lands, jump in and you should be good to go.
Gotta love veteran! This is easily one of the most difficult games I've played throughout on an advanced level. Good luck! You'll need it going forward!
properbostonian 11-13-07, 10:06 AM Thank you for detailed walkthrough and taking the time. Looking forward to getting back into the fray later today. It's a damn shame this work thing gets into the way all the time.
newfmp3 11-13-07, 10:35 AM i went thought the game first on Hardened. I never found it that difficult, except the end of the sniper machine of course. I'm now going through on Veteran and some area's really come down to memorizing where baddies come from, but I have only just started the sniper mission and had to go to bed as I knew the last part might keep me up all night.
There was a trick that I used on hardened that got me through it. There are two little huts or whatever you call them. The one furthest of the ferris wheel, and closest to Macmillan, if you go inside from the start of the mission, hide under the bench, and turn to face the door, you can wait it out most times until the main helicopter lands. You might have to occasionally toss a grenade or two back. Good idea to put down some c4 where macmillan is too so you can clear a path when you take him to the rescue heli. The one thing that really irritated me about this section was there was no checkpoints the entire time you are waiting for the rescue heli to come. So you mess up, it's a LONG wait to try again and very frustrating. Very Bad design imho, and a major mess up in what is a great game otherwise.
I can't imagine how hard that's going to be on Veteran
Almost done with Vet, working on "No Fighting in the War Room" 2nd set of tunnels with the missiles.
Such a good game.
formulanerd 11-13-07, 02:00 PM wait.... this game has an SP campaign?
dbburns 11-13-07, 02:24 PM I got stuck in the level where you go through the town and clear out the buildings looking for Khaled Al-Asad. I made it to what has to be his location, the barn. There were no other markers on my compass. My guys set up by the basement door of the barn and just positioned themselves there, guns drawn toward the door. I went up to the door, I shot the door full of holes, wounding people on the other side. I could look in the windows of the basement of the barn and see people inside; one guy looked to be tied up. I shot at them through the window, but they would not die. I kept calling for airstrikes on the barn and walking up to the door afterwards in the hopes that one of my guys would open it for me, but no luck. I finally had to check a walkthrough to see what I was missing. Apparently a guy named Price is supposed to open the door for me, but I looked at all the men with me and none of them are named Price. I went back to the town to see if Price was stuck in a building and I could not find him anywhere. Has anyone had this happen? I decided to just restart this level, which is fine because I liked this level, but it took awhile to work through.
Also, the level before this had one of the best uses of rumble I've experienced in a game. Not to give too much away, but it was the short scene where the heartbeat made the controller rumble. Very effective and chilling.
IndyStylee 11-13-07, 04:50 PM Yeah, you're team is supposed to follow you up to the barn. When you get near the door then price will open it. It has to be this way and this way only. You'll see why once your teammates finally figure out what the hell they're doing. Definitely thought the graphics and feel of the scene you're talking about were just amazing.
auburnu008 11-13-07, 08:05 PM It sure would be nice if IW would fix the damn servers. Can they EVER get a online game correct?
Frank.556 11-13-07, 09:05 PM It seems like a combination of things. When I am logged in to Live I get pauses and slight lockups while navigating the blades. I tried to play COD4 many times tonight and no luck. I actually was able to join one room and the people were begging for the game to start...it didn't. A few of my friends are also having the same issues.
I did notice the same game quirks playing COD4 on the PS3. Sometimes I would be able to find a game with more than 10 people and sometimes it would just keep searching for games.

I've been having trouble with LIVE over the past couple of days. I've tried Aegis Wing, CoD 4, and Halo 3. For the most part I can connect but it will take forever to be matched with anyone sometimes.
I actually threw the controller on that last part of the sniper level...twice.
i played on hardened and found it really tough; laid down a bunch of claymores and then went to the back of the pavillion; the trick is to pick off as many enemies as you can as quickly as you can; i used sniper and ak47; took me awhile, and once i had mcmillan almost to the helo when i got capped, that was a controller-toss moment ;)

it was the hardest part of the game for me, there at the end; i will say that i NEVER once managed to grab the mother ****ing dog's throat! how the **** do you do that? sometimes it says to melee before it bites, and sometimes after, i never managed, just shot them ;)

it was great and i think it goes to show that that cod5 would really benefit from a bunch of stealth missions; the highlight for sure is creeping through the grass when the folks walk up (i.e. the end of the demo), though of course it's rather silly that folks walk almost on top of you and don't see you, at least in video-game grass ;)

What are you saying? That cod 1 and 2 sucked online as well? Or can't you understand that when a game is launched with multiplayer, and sells so well that there isn't going to be problems when servers get slammed. I assure you that they are working on it. And that all will be well soon so have chill out and don't slander IW.
i didn't realize how much i didn't like halo till i played cod4 multiplayer ;)
anyone else feel that way? it's not a bad game but i sort of just realized that i really didn't like it.........

I think that they are two totally different mutiplayers. Sure you need commuication, and team work on both but it seems like halo is more run and gun where cod is tactical. I like both of them and wish there was more time in my life to dedicate to playing.

I might be wrong, I thought I read on n4g.com that they had problems with the matchmaking part of the game set up and that IW is working on the problem. Maybe the only have servers on the ps3 mutiplayer.
2manywirez 11-13-07, 09:30 PM I'm kinda pissed off that there's no splitscreen over LIVE.. the last COD had it, I know it was made by a diff company but damn. I guess it's not that big of a deal but I was pretty much expecting it. Still picking it up tomorrow.. see you guys online
The PS3 version has 4 split screens for online game play but no co-op play for single player missions. The last of which is a little disappointing for a game of this magnitude (of hype) and genre.
All in all I have read, believe on all platforms and see on the PS3 version the graphics and gameplay for single player are above average.
Online I think the maps for death-match (only experience online) are smallish which lead to my early death several time over and over... Online I have more "fun" dealing death in Warhawk!

=====SPOILERS======
Hide behind the wall before the cemetery and wait for the last of 3 tanks move past you in the road and sneak behind them the join up with your partner capt whatshisface... follow him and be patient and you will end up in the sniper mission with s 50 cal... once done with that part (checkpoint) its time to run for your life. I ran into a building an out the other side where you have to carry your leader (more difficult) mind you, you are still on the run. Good thing is the single player bot leader has pretty good aim and he really make kills when it counts. Eventually you will end up at the ferris wheel where all types of hell breaks loose. At this point I picked up what ever weapons a did run and gun and tossed greanades to blow up soldiers hiding behind cars... oh yeah kill the last couple enemies nearby, grab your leader and run to the heli.

Or can't you understand that when a game is launched with multiplayer, and sells so well that there isn't going to be problems when servers get slammed. I assure you that they are working on it. And that all will be well soon so have chill out and don't slander IW.
I am saying this..... Yes COD 1 and 2 BOTH had MAJOR issues the first 2 months they were released online. 2 was unplayable until IW finally released a patch to fix it. I understand that when a game is launched it might have problems... THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE BETA! The beta had issues... IW said they would be fixed for the retail version. They clearly are not fixed. It might be ok with you, but judging their track record with online games, it pisses me off. I am sure they are working on it, but it has been 3 days. I love the game, but I did not pay $60 and expect to have issues when there was a 2 month beta to iron out the server issues. Do you not think they knew they were going to sell x amount of copies?
BigJon7527 11-14-07, 01:48 AM Also, the level before this had one of the best uses of rumble I've experienced in a game. Not to give too much away, but it was the short scene where the heartbeat made the controller rumble. Very effective and chilling.
Agreed, crawling out of the chopper in the wasteland burning around you, a pillar of fire rising in the distance, screen fades to white. Still messes with my head!
zmanzman 11-14-07, 04:56 AM I actually threw the controller on that last part of the sniper level...twice.
i know what u mean i got very tired of dieing on that part but finally got through it and finished game the mission after the credits took a few tries to i really like the ac 130 mission just because its differant i guess i would have liked to have a tank mission to though
adiddy2231 11-14-07, 08:12 AM The last part of the sniper misson took me a few tries but I finally got it when I realized that I didnt need to zoom in all the way, and instead zoomed out a little more so I could see the flag and the guy. Don't tell me how it ends, but how much farther do I have to go to beat the game after I decend down into the vents?

What problems are you having? I have seen a MAJOR improvement since the Beta and had not had the problems that I had during the Beta. The last two night Live has been the culprit not IW.

+1
Live has been conducting 'maintenance' on their servers, most likely for the fall dashboard update.
properbostonian 11-14-07, 09:08 AM I agree. Other then the problems yesterday afternoon, the vast majority of games have been flawless.
I am referring to the network, not my gameplay. :)
IndyStylee 11-14-07, 09:36 AM I wasn't able to get in a match online last night. It's ok, I just played the singleplayer campaign. I certainly hope they have this mess straightened out by the weekend though.
Max Lomax 11-14-07, 09:53 AM Tbh, I'm not that upset at the recent problems with getting games. After my first week with the game a "break" is probably a good thing anyway. It was consuming my time at an disturbing rate..It just never gets boring to me, even after 5-6 hours. With that said, I Hope they fix it soon before I have withdrawls, lol.
Booya! Finished Vet last night.
Epilogue mission is tough on vet, after dying about 50 times I put it on Recruit and knifed everyone.
Boogie7910 11-14-07, 10:54 AM I'm playing on Vet right now and am stuck in the broadcast center part where you're in the huge computer room. There's just enemies everywhere and on the 2nd floor shooting down at you. It seems no matter how many I kill they just keep respawning. Dunno what exactly I'm to do.
DeathDealerB 11-14-07, 10:58 AM Team Hardcore. That's where the action is. I love it! :D
Get to the far doorway to stop them from spawning.
I spammed 3 nades over there and sprinted to it. the nades killed all but 2 which I took out with my M4.
Once you do that pick everyone off on the ground floor then work on the guy on top.

Congrats. I hope to finish tonight or tomorrow night.
I saw a great Epilogue video on youtube last night. The player beat it on veteran with a handgun within the time limit. Good stuff.

thanks
i just ran to the last door. took me about 8 trys but once i got there i just laid back and picked off a few. my team took care of the rest of them.
Edit: Am I supposed to get the "Your Show Sucks" achievement after this chapter? I thought I destroyed all the TV's but I guess not.
TheDigger 11-14-07, 02:53 PM Is there a way to cover in this game? I'm crouching down behind things but it's not the same a taking cover in GOW. Thanks.

no cover system.
slcsnkman 11-14-07, 02:59 PM sorry if I missed this is the post but for multiplayer, how what is the level you max out at?
chrisherbert 11-14-07, 04:01 PM I finally beat this thing last night, and I have to say that I really love arcade mode. I kind of wish it had the NES style menu like in the preview video, but oh well. It really pushes you to play in a very different way.

55 -- then you get something called "Prestige" and you start over. I heard a rumor that your weapons are gold or something.
Chief Ediri 11-14-07, 05:31 PM You can either have all the golden guns or start all over with a mark next to your name saying that you made it to level 55.
mpalmieri1203 11-14-07, 08:18 PM So when you start all over do you loose all of your weapons and have to redo the challenges???
I'm realy digging the MP5 with the acog sight on multiplayer....

I think so.
Does anyone know who is the mystery 4th horseman? It seems weird when you get the achievement after the Shock and Awe mission, where
someone dies at.
AHDTVDiet 11-15-07, 05:28 AM Question:
I beat the game on Normal but am stuck at the last sniper mission on Veteran (having visions of RAMM with no co-op help in site). Can I do mission select to beat all the other missions in Vet and then come back for this one last and still get the veteran achievement for beating the game? Has anyone tried this?

There are tips on how to beat this mission a few pages back in the thread.
