Hi all,

I was just reading a thread (which linked to some other threads) discussing HD content from Tivo being burned on a standard DVD (DVD5 or DVD9), but in HD-DVD format. I know that DVD Studio Pro can burn HD-DVD content onto a DVD, but has anyone tried using Tivo or EyeTV content as the starting point.

On the PC side, they have the process down using Tivo Desktop with Nero or Ulead Movie Factory.

Is there anything on the Mac side that does this? Maybe Toast.

What I'd like to ultimately do is record HD material from my QAM source and then burn them onto DVDs so that they play on an HD-DVD (or BluRay) player.

Here's the LINK (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=371324) at TivoCommunity.

Toast 8 can burn BluRay disks. There are also BluRay drives that are Mac compatible. So, as long as you can get the files onto your Mac, this should be no problem.

That's good information, but not really what I'm asking about. BTW, does Toast burn BluRay discs so that they play in BluRay players, or are they just data discs?

Anyways, what I'm asking about is whether there is a Mac solution to transfer HD recordings (either from TivoHD or EyeTV) into a HD-DVD (or BluRay) format, but burn them onto a standard DVD5 or DVD9.

It seems like there is a workable Windows option to do just this. You can get about an hour of HD onto a DVD5, as long as you cut out the commercials, etc.

I'm not sure if there's anything other than DVD Studio Pro that can author an HD-DVD disc using standard DVD media.

I have seen that. I'm still on Toast 7, but I've read that Toast's BluRay support is limited to data discs and that movies burned on BluRay won't play on BluRay players.

I'm looking to see if there are Mac apps that can author HD-DVD or BluRay discs, but burn them onto a standard DVD. DVD Studio Pro is too pricey for me.

Maybe Toast 9 will add this support.
