My question may be to elementary for this esteemed forum, but here it is.
I recently moved into my first town house. It has ether net wiring pretty much through out and single cable pretty much through out.
I have a windows XP media center PC, I have a sony 5.1 HTIB, I have a bookshelf system that is a 5 disc cd/dvd changer, I have a 27" sony WEGA tv and will probably get a 30" Sony WEGA HD 16:9 TV this weekend. Getting it close out for $500 from a store that couldnt sell it. I have an XM PCR (XM receiver that connect directly to my computer. It can connect digitally-fiber optic but I dont have that toy yet. Also have a Sony MD recorder with fiber optic input. Have a pioneer inno xm radio. I have directv
Now my aim is to have a nice viewing set up on each floor. My wife is the TV /movie junkie in the family. I am more into music, but I like good sound. Used to run PA and I am an electrician.
Master bedroom with a stereo or 5.1 set up. Eventually the 27" or the 30" will wind up in there.
The first floor family room has the 27" it may get the 30" or that may go into the basement. But it will get a 5.1 system
The basement I want to get a 7.1 system. I want to buy a 40" flat screen sometime next year. It may go in the basement or the first floor.
I am looking at a new 5.1 systems and a 7.1 systems that are XM ready.
Here's the meat of the question.
I want to be able to hear my XM radio everywhere. I can do that with seperate XM receivers on each floor but thats messy.
I really would like to be able to record from any or all directv receivers (3) to my computer. (Expandable, permanent, storage)
I would like to be able to play back from my computer to any tv and to send internet video to any tv.
I would like to be able to send mp3's from the computer to any of the stereo's
In a perfect world I would like to be able to remote control the computer from anywhere in the house so that I can send audio or video signals to where ever.
I am guessing that I need to home run double cable from each viewing space to the main directv hook up. Although I have a double directv hook up on the roof and on the back of the house.
I am guessing that I need to run a double cable from each viewing space to the computer. One to send signal to the computer to be recorded, one to send signal from the computer to be viewed at the remote location.
I have no real idea how to send the MP3 signal from the computer to the remote locations. My guess is 2 pairs of speaker wires.
Any suggestions?
