I have had a xbr960 for some time and very pleased.

I just bought a HD-dvd player and was quite surprised to see very little difference between a good HDnet cable feed and the playback of a hd-dvd disk. The disk is better but not nearly the extra impact I expected.

I would be hard pressed to believe that other display technology would prove different. Any comments and other observations would be appreciated. Thanks.

I also have a Sony XBR960(N). I bought the Toshiba HD-A3.

When you watch something like BBC's Planet Earth, there's a huge difference than watching it via cable on Discovery. Pretty much, lots of movement (flocks of flying birds, waves, etc.) cause pixelation on HD broadcasts, not so with HD-DVD playback.

When the action is low, I agree it's hard to see a difference. What's great, you can decide when you see HD content, and see movies like Batman Begins, Transformers, 300, in HD. This gives you lots of choice.

Yeah, the HD music concerts on Comcast show a lot of macroblocking and compression when the spotlights are flying all around.
