first of all, hi, i'm new and had a couple of questions. i am having a house built right now and i need help on what what wires to run and what components to get. i have been talking to other people on different forums and they did help but i figured i'd also go to the experts here. soo here are my plans.
my game/movie room will be upstairs and what i would like to do there is have a projector/screen with my reciver, dvd, bluray, Wii, computer... in a different room on the other side of the wall. since i don't have too much time i've been doing a ton of research and have been looking at hundreds of components and its getting really confusing. i was told that since i want the components in a different room that i should get a reciver that uses a external amp so that i could run all of the video devices to that and then run a single or maybe 2 cables from the reciver to the projector. from the reciver the wires would go to a wall plate where the wires will be going through the walls and comming out of another wall plate where the projector will be. the same will go for the speaker wires. is this all a good idea? i've also been looking at remotes that are programable so i can control everything including my lighting but this is something i know nothing about really. i believe the technology is called x10?
for my other tv's i will be using flat panel lcd's that i will pick out later but i will still be running the wires the same way.
now, i need help picking a projector. i was looking at something under $1000 but i would like something that is atleast 720. is this possible? what about 1080? this won't be a hard core home theatre, it will be mainly for just tv and gaming but HD picture would be nice.
i was going to post links to the wall plates but i can't post links yet.
would dvi cables be ok or should i run HDMI? i don't have a huge budget but i'm not going to cheap out because i want to do it right the first time, or at least get the cables right since i can't go back in the walls.
also, what is the difference between all of the different DVI cables like DVI-D?
as you can see i have my hands full, thank you for the help and sorry for the long read.
MODS, if you feel there is a better section for this could you please move it for me?
