I am in need of a TV for my Den. I sit approximately 3-4' from the tv. I have tried several 26-32" LCD tv's and have been very unhappy with the motion blur. I most recently tried a Samsung 26" LCD and still notice the blur, its not as bad as the less expensive units but still noticeable to me.
So, I have come to the conclusion that a CRT based unit would be the only thing that I am happy with. I think anything larger than 27" will be too large, what would be my best bet for a 26-27" HD Widescreen CRT? I dont think anything can be found new. I will be running Directv HD to this unit.
Thanks for any info...

Talks about just what you are asking about..
Thanks, I had read thru that post. Mostly were talking about 32-34" sets. Ive not seen much mentioned about the next step smaller. 32 would just be way too large for my viewing distance.
Thanks.....

You could consider the KV-30XBR910 or the KD-30XS955. They both are wide screen and sport the Super Fine Pitch tube. I have never seen these 30 inch sets in person but I have the 910 model in 34 inch parked in my bed room and it is not all that big. I would imagine these 30 inchers would be small enough.
Besides they are as small as the Sony HD CRT SFP tubes come and if you are going to be viewing up close and personal the SFP tube is the tube of choice as it has the best image detail and picture quality available in Sony CRTs
I looked at the 30" Samsung Slimfit tv today at Best Buy. The unit looks good in the store, but have read many poor reviews regarding this unit. I am also not sure that the retail price of this unit makes sense.

Don't buy it. I have never heard a positive report on the Slimfits, they all either have terrible geometry issues and/or are fuzzy at the edges.

Then what would you suggest? If he wants to buy a new CRT HDTV, then he has no options. What else is available? RCA?

Actually in the OPs original post I thought he stated that he wasn't expecting to buy new.

Yeah, he will have a time trying to find a CRT in that size. Samsung used to make one. But, as others have said, a 30" is probably your best bet. I wouldn't buy one used unless it is a prize piece like a Sony XBR910.
You also have to figure with these bad reviews on the Samsung, these are mostly coming from the hardcore crowd. If you are a casual watcher that does a little bit of everything, you might not even notice or care if these problems arise. Plus, you get the warranty rather than buying a used model that you don't know the history of. They could have had it burning hot or it could have been a display model.
Ive been searching craigslist and ebay for 26-30" Widescreen HD CRT's with little success. I guess I will just keep at it and see if anything turns up. I may also try a few more LCD's and see if I am happy with any of them. Thanks for you help.

Craigslist is about your best bet for an Sony HD CRT. I see 900's for sale now and then around the Seattle area. In fact I picked up 2 in the last month off craigslist, both in great shape.
