I was very disappointed to find out that XM is already broadcasting about 5 Christmas/Holiday channels and Sirius which I have 3 subscriptions with, has zero as of today.

I wrote Sirius about this and it took them two days to get back to me only to learn that the person that responded to my email is clueless as to when and what channels Sirius will devote to Christmas/Holiday music this season.

I was left wondering if they will have any this season.

I was also told to keep checking the Sirius Web site to see when and what channels will be hosting Christmas/Holiday/Seasonal Music.

This after I had already told them that their website is useless for programming/scheduling information.

Maybe Sirius can get Howard Stern to sing a Christmas Carol or two for me.

I am very close to switching to XM. I just hope that if Sirius and XM merge that someone with some Holiday spirit .aka. XM will be running the show.

I know some people do not need or want their all year programming to change to Holiday/Christmas music but why can't Sirius at least use the Discovery channel to broadcast Christmas Music? The Discovery channel has been dead for almost a year now.

Halloween is barely over. Smart move by Sirius. I'd probably cancel if they were playing Christmas music already.

They used the Discovery Channel for Halloween music. It was awesome. I had it blasting out of our darkened garage on Oct. 31 to set the mood for the trick or treaters.

The first week of November is too early for Christmas music--even though all the Christmas flyers and tv commercials are out. It really should only begin on Dec. 1. I hope they wait until at least after the US Thanksgiving (or at least after Remembrance/Veterans day).

they will probably use one of the low channels, like the Sirius Love or Starlight channels like they did last year. And if I remember correctly, I do believe they started around Thanksgiving or a few days after.

I figured this is the response I would get as there are always two sides to everything.

Thanks for the tip on Discovery. I will try that next. The last time I tried it all I got was that loop recording about alternative choices to Discovery.

Yeah, as I recall I drove home for Thanksgiving and was able to receive Holiday music on the way back after Thanksgiving.

I just realised that I got more info on if/when there will be Holiday Music on Sirius off this post than I did when I actually emailed Sirius a few days ago.

Starting on November 19th, Sirius Holiday, Christmas Country and Classical Christmas are all returning to Sirius.

Sirius Holiday lands on Starlite (ch 2) with the blend of holiday hits mixed with traditional favorites that we've grown to love. Expect to hear artists like Nat "King" Cole, Paul McCartney, Bing Crosby, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey and more.

Christmas Country parks its sleigh on The Roadhouse (ch 62) with holiday favorites from country music's biggest stars.

And finally, Classical Christmas burns a yule log on Sirius Pops (ch 86) with traditional holiday music performed by the world's leading orchestras, choirs and opera stars.

Don't worry, just like last year, Starlight, The Roadhouse and Sirius Pops all will be returning to their regular programming after the holiday season.

mercury,

You got that info from "Orbitcast" ?

I could not even locate it on the Sirius Website, of course it may be up there now as I have not checked in a few days.

Interesting when I received two emails back from Sirius asking when the holiday music would start and neither person could give me any better answer than the following:

"Every year SIRIUS dedicated a couple of channels to the holiday
music but at this time, we are not sure of the channels or when it is
going to start."

and the second one:

"As part of our superior programming, SIRIUS will dedicate channels to
Christmas and other holiday music this year! Please understand that we
have limited information about this year's holiday lineup via our email
department. We recommend that you contact us back in approximately 3
weeks (late November). We should have the information that you're
requesting as the holiday season gets closer!"

Isn't 5 Christmas/Holiday channels a little over doing it no matter the day on the calender?

"Christmas music should only be played after Thanksgiving."

Exactly right, and ONLY the day after Thanksgiving...then I'll really be 'thankful' for something.

XM has so much Christmas music they have to start early to get it all played, if Sirius started that early people would be throwing their Sirius recievers out the window because of so many repeats. ;)

I don't get why they have to start the Christmas music so early. I love listening to the Roadhouse but I don't want to listen to a month of carols.
I guess it's back to the Outlaw channel.

Spoken so true, so true... Before Thanksgiving XM only had "Holly" if you were looking for x-mas stations, it was not till AFTER Thanksgiving that they brought the other channels back on-air. To my knowledge...

I've been a subcriber to XM for over two years - and last month flew into Phoenix to pick up my new RS4 which came with Sirius. I was looking forward to my trip back to Colorado and had assumed that Sirius had similar programming to XM. Not true. It was horrid. I could not find any station that held my interest longer than two songs. XM channels: The loft, Flight 26, Cafe, etc all offered great selections and when a song was on that was not my preference -I knew the next song would be to my liking.

The other year Sirius paid Audi for exclusive use on all Audis ( I suspect sexual favors were also included :) ) but I was able to purchase a XM module and a Terk adapter that allowed me to have the OEM interface.

I originally wanted XM because they have better technology (satellites are geosynchronous and hence have better coverage) and also had less compression. Never did I realize the programming was better.

That's my experience with Sirius.

^^^ Ha, ha, ha--that's funny because I chose Sirius over XM precisely for it's programming.

I really am unhappy with the Sirius roving satellites. It is terrible to lock in on with a static antenna for house use. I finally had to buy an antenna extender to get the antenna three floors up ontop of the roof before I could get a reliable signal. With XM and a fixed satellite I could have searched out the strongest signal placed the antenna in that position and been done with it. But with Sirius and the roving satellite your signal strength is governed by the time of day/position of the Satellite.

BTW- I did hear that Sirius is planning on getting a fixed satellite this year. Or they think they are getting a fixed satellite by default when they merge with XM :)

XM was playing Christmas Carols at least a week before Thanksgiving on many channels this year. I work with several people who have XM and they were busting me that Sirius was not yet doing the same.

As I recall Sirius started with the Christmas channel - all 3 of them on Monday of Thanksgiving week.

Last year I think Sirius started with them on Thanksgiving day and ended all but one on Dec 25 th.

I guess you could say Sirius has 3.5 channels since the Classic Radio channel also plays classic songs between the Christmas radio plays.

jfn111 - I hear you on losing Road House to Christmas Carols. I think Sirius should instead add a few channels to their line up and than take them away after the season. I don't understand why the Old Discovery Channel could not be used for Holiday music instead of Road House.
