OK this is my first post so bear with me. I love samsungs and was debating the 5054. However I can get the 5044 for 860$ and thats brand new. Granted its only 720P, but I don't need 1080p bc this will be my first big investment in a tv. To me and being a broke college kid this seems like a great deal for a 50 inch plasma. I've done some research about the differences in the 44 and 54 and the only thing I can tell is the response time. Does any one know any other differences? Also I love the slick look of the 54 how the trim is shiny ect, does anyone know if the 44 is like this or flat black like the 34? Any info you all might have would be great. Thanks in advance.

I think the 5044 lacks the side inputs and an anti-glare coating. It should be the same panel as the 5054 though so I don't know why it would have a different response time.

Side imputs are no biggie to me. As long as I have my 2 hdmi's for my 360 and digi cable box I'm a happy guy! So it has no anti-glare or just a different one from the 54? Also do you all think for the price its a good deal? Best I've seen it for is around 1200 plus shipping

In my college days, I was happy to have a 13" B&W with a coat hanger antenna :D
Save your money for books and subs and buy the 5044. Is the warranty the same as the 5054?

Ya I'm getting it the sears F&F on sunday. the warranty is the same I believe. I have just been looking at the housing for the 44 and its that flat black which is such a turn off lol. Do you all know for sure if its the flat black or the shiny casing like most samsungs. I mean beggars and be choosers but it would be nice to have the shiny casing. So good deal? Yay or nay? The only thing it will be used for is a LOT of 360 playing for live :) and some cable and movies on the side

Good point here. A heavy gamer in college with beer parties and wild boyfriends/girlfriends moves me to suggest an LCD instead. Image retention and various liquids on the screen make an LCD a wiser choice in my opinion.

I know but for 860 that is so in my budget for a tv. Let alone a 50 in samsung. The only differences from the link the terminator gave me was the side inputs. I think I am just going to go with this to be honest. I know about breaking in a tv for about 200-250 hrs. Would you all refrain from playing video games during this period? Any thing else I should know? I know about a dvd that changes colors which I can use at night to help the break in. Let me know anything that comes to mind bc this is my first real tv and dont want to mess it up with burn in ect.

though samsung does not recommend any specific break-in, many here have found it prudent to reduce brightness an contrast on their plasmas for the first few hundred hours.
Enjoy

Just ordered this online from sears for a total of $1012.78 after instore pickup and tax. Hoping to drop it to $889.28 if the extra 10% rebate gets through.
