View Full Version : Help, my Sony KD-34XS955 died
I just turned it on and all that happened was the red standby LED did its usual flashing and set made the usual turn on sound but the screen remains blank.
Maybe my heater I installed two feet away did not help it any. The heater has only been on the last few days. Any advice will be appreciated.
au revoir 11-08-07, 09:57 PM Just the usual advice. Leave unplugged overnight with all audio and video inputs and coaxial cables detached. Then try turning it on again in the morning. Maybe say some nice things to it as well.
raouliii 11-09-07, 07:52 AM How many flashes?
Twenty flashes.
Looks like I need to get someone on the other end to lift it to the repair shop.
I was hoping never to have to lift this beast. I bought it 2.5 years old, half a year ago. I have had it only 200 days and my warranty was 90 days. TVs are no where as reliable as I am used to.
I am reminded how good this set is though when I watched my Panasonic CT30WX15 last night, for the first time since getting the Sony SPF.
Mark Goetz 11-11-07, 05:58 PM Twenty flashes.
??????
You sure it is 20? Make sure by letting the normal turn on procedure, then count flashes.
gopher2k 11-13-07, 03:24 PM sounds similar to what happened to my 36xs955. Turned out to be the psu...
SithLord 11-27-07, 06:56 PM This has happened to me 2 or 3 times since I bought the set a couple years ago. I have it plugged into a power bar/surge protector. To remedy, all I did was unplug it from the power bar and plug it directly into a wall outlet. The set should power back on fine. Turn it off, plug it back into the power bar. This seems to do the trick for me.
You are more like a Jedi Master to me my friend. And a fellow Canadian at other Canadian Naval Base City.
You have made my week. After not having use of the set for a few weeks, I was just about to line someone up to help load the set to the repair shop. That would of been a pain and minimum shop charge on top.
I neglected to cancel my Zip Blu-Ray service. So now I can watch those two and the dozen new titles I bought. I will be toasting you when enjoying those fabulous Blu-Ray .
I realise now that I erred by ignoring the labels on the Monster Power HTS1000 Power Bar. I had it in Tape, and I am quessing that outlet is only meant to support the draw of a Tape of similar device and not the big surge for a CRT powers on. (I know its even big after turn on compared to a Tape player. Normally I am careful about this stuff, but I really messed that one up.
Before I had the problem, I was plugging and unplugging the set to degauss. I wonder if this set it off?
PimpUigi 11-28-07, 12:31 AM So it works now and is OK?
SithLord 11-30-07, 03:31 PM Great, glad it worked out! :D
Can't say it won't happen again, but at least you know you won't have to break your back lugging it to a shop.
Enjoy that Blu-ray, this set is absolutely amazing and this is the only annoyance I have had with it. Seems ok now, haven't had that issue for a long time.
Cheers!
kannansid 07-19-08, 12:19 AM Did this issue happen again? I am considering purchasing this TV from a local person and he said he seen this issue about 3-4 times a year. Is this normal?
Should I buy this TV with this issue or look out for something else.
Is this issue gonna manifest later as the classical D-Board issue mention in this forum.
Thanks for your advice.

Read the above, A power bar problem, not TV.
kannansid 07-20-08, 04:53 AM So in your case, you plugged-in the TV in the incorrect slot. Once you fixed that, the problem never occurred after that. Is that right.
I am not sure if that is case with the person that has this. He is willing it let it go for 200$. Should I buy? Decisions? Advices?
Thanks
kippercal 07-04-10, 03:37 PM My Sony Wega wont turn on - 6 red flashes - any advice?
sleepykidX 03-19-11, 12:18 AM Hi guys, my TV also has the same problem. After pressing the power button , no image shows up on my TV. The red led blinks several times and then nothing happens. I will try this unplug trick however. Any advice would be good
music_to_my_ear 04-03-11, 12:38 AM 34XS955 vs 34XBR800 vs 34HS510
If you could choose anyone, which set is better and why?
More importantly, the 34XBR800 vs 34HS510? Read that the HS510 is an older version of the xbr800, both are identically equipped, just one was released before the other set and had more expensive parts due to its early release.

Firstly, I do not know what the above post has to do with this thread, other than being Sony CRT Widescreen.
34XBR800 was started around 2002
34HS510 was started around 2003, when the 34XBR910 was out
