Been away for a while so I am not sure what goes where any more.

Brighthouse networks central FL
SA8300HD DVR's
All recorded material in HD

After running for a while (many months) it is as if the hard drive is losing space. Recordings last at most a week yet there are only 6 or 7 of them.. they just seem to delete as if there was no room left.

1) Has any one seen this and can it be confirmed?

2) Does any one have the sequence to bring up the diagnostic page so I can see what it says about available space.

As I recall this happend about a year ago and I had to wipe the drives clean. I negotiated with Brighthouse for a credit equal to the rental costs on one of the two DVR's for one year. They sort of acknowledged that it was a problem they knew about. I guess it is time to do it again but this time I will want full credit ofr both units. I don't think they wanted to cause a stir in court over this but I am beginning to get fed up.

If the hard drive is failing (two of them?) there should be messages stating that too many sectors are marked bad. If it is just bad software losing blocks and not recovering space properly, come on that is 40 year old technology.

Appreciate the help

To get to the diagnostic page, press and hold the Select button on the front of the unit OR/ the Pause button on the remote for a few seconds, until the mail/envelope light starts to flash, then press the INFO button on the front of the unit OR/ the Page Up or Down button on the remote).

Also, you might want to check your 'preferences' options (button B on remote) to see if you've got your default accidentally set to delete after a certain period of time. Hope that helps.

I was going to suggest the same thing...I'm pretty sure that Auto Erase is the default on the DVR we have (SA 8300HD). I had to set it to "Save until I erase" (or something similar) so programs don't get deleted automatically.

Hopefully it's a simple problem that can be solved easily, and not a hard drive problem. Good luck, in any case.
