Today I just finished building a HTPC featuring an MSI rx2600xt video card which has two dvi, and one s-video output. The HTPC was built to work with the Sony KV-34xbr800 acting as a DVR. As both the video card and sony have dvi ports I thought I was in good shape. WRONG...

I get no picture, nothing, when I connect the HTPC to the Sony via the DVI ports. (I do get a pic using the S-video connection.) The HTPC does work fine with a monitor using a DVI cable.

Does anybody have any idea as to what the problem could be??? Thanks in advance for any crumb of information you can send my way.

Hello Rick.
I have that TV too. :)
I have the ATI 7500 all-in-one video card.
I tried connecting them together years ago with no luck (same as your problem).
But, recently (after fixing the TV) I tried again and got it to work!!!
One thing I noticed that when you have them connected, restart your computer. Mine would not display unless the TV was on already. Also, turn off "monitor off" in power settings of the comp., as this will cause the TV to stop displaying (even after bringing it out of that mode). Another thing I had noticed is I get "flickering" in background colors (I say colors cause it doesn't seem to be just blacks or whites), this flickering is when watching a movie playing through the DVD drive of comp. I do get a much better picture this way, but have to say I can't really use the pc programs (unless it is a game in full screen).
The way I did it (only having one DVI out on video card) was to go back and fourth between DVI and S-video of TV (had to have both connect from pc). I went to S-video to go through settings, then back to DVI to check picture. It wasn't easy this way, but was very capable to go back and fourth like that, as long as the pc didn't shut down or monitor go into sleep mode.
I read back then it wasn't possible to do this with this TV (the manual even says not for pc connection). And maybe it will mess up the TV or at the very least the DVI input?? I am not sure :(

I am hoping someone here or on another forum will let me know if it will mess something up???

OK
Someone responded to my other thread and says it is OK and won't hurt anything... Just an update on using a pc on the DVI input :)

rmarmes, did you get your HTPC to Sony DVI connection to work?

I'm building an HD HTPC PVR and while looking up what kind of DVI-DVI or HDMI-DVi cable to buy, noticed the manual mentions that the "DVI input terminal...is not intended for use with personal computers"! I was afraid that this means that it won't work unless the signal is HDCP complient?
