hey everyone ,

i've spent the better part of the last 5 days reading this whole forum lol in my quest to decide between the panny 58 inch 10uk or the pioneer 5080. And yes i've read all the posts, But i would like to ask people who have actually seen wit their own eyes the 58inch 10uk to answer my questions please since i cannot find a dealer here that has one of these units on displays and i cannot verify with my eyes the quality of the picture.

I am sitting 10 feet away, will i see any picture degradation with the 58 inch 10uk ? i.e artifacting, sde, pixelization etc. ?????

how is the 1080i deinterlacing on these sets ?

Should i be getting this set if i'm only sitting 10 feet away with it being 760p and all??

My sources will be hd-dvd, xbox 360 (1080i), ps3, dvd (720p) satellite (480p)

pioneer 5080 is my backup if i find out the 58 inch 10uk has a sub par viewing experience at 10 feet.

Thank you so very much to anybody that can help me out since it is impossible for me to view this set physically before i order online.

cheers

You are correct, these questions have been asked and answered a zillion times.

Don't buy anything this expensive sight unseen. Period. Suggestions will vary from the personal biases of each person replying. ONLY YOU can decide what is important to you by seeing the displays in person.

Good luck.:)

The 58 10UK is a great display, the 5080 is a great display, plenty of happy users. I've seen them side by side, but not in an optimal setting. Each has one PQ disadvantage or another to an enthusiast and only you know if one is more important to your eye than another. You may get answers to your question all over the place, and none of them would be your feeling.

The 5080 may give you more "precise" video to your eye, the 58 10uk will certainly give you more size. If you can look at 50 and 60 inch displays side by side, any technology, and are impressed with the larger screen size, then that's the way to go. If the video accuracy difference between a pio kuro and non kuro (or panny) 50 inch (if you can see them side by side) bothers you more than the screen size makes you happy, then the 5080 is the way to go.

I’m pretty sure you will like the size better at your viewing distance, given that your room can handle it.

...My sources will be hd-dvd, xbox 360 (1080i), ps3, dvd (720p) satellite (480p)....

DVDs are generally 480p (720x480,) not 720p (1280x720.)

If I had to decide, I'd go for the 58", since size will most likely have by far the greatest visual impact on your viewing.

thanks for the feedback, yep its a tough decision since i can't physically see the set or else i would definitely be able to choose, i really do want a screen size since i play alot of gears on the 360 but i've heard some conflicting reviews on the pannys processing? anybody know how noticable this will be running 480p sources and 1080i sources. And i've also read something about a blackshift??? how noticeable and recurring is this phenomenom.

Unfortunately only you can determin how noticeable, everyones eye and perception is different. These artifacts are not a noticeable to me, but that's just me.:)

Go for the larger size. Splitting hairs over PQ details is nothing compared to the visual impact of the larger display.

I went from a 42" 768p plasma to a 58" 768p plasma at 11'. I was worried that it might be "too big" but that was not the case at all. Some of the crappiest SD channels do look a little soft, but everything else is great.

Someday if I can upgrade to a 65" at a reasonable cost I will do it without hesitation.
