Hi all,
I don't really know too much about convergence and was hoping someone could shed a little bit of light onto why my Z5 seems to show the red being off when I'm projecting from my coffe table (12 feet), and the blue being off when I mounted it from 19 feet back up high on a shelf. I know that this is something that's geneally not perfect with LCD projectors but is this too off? I don't see it from sitting 15 feet back and I've heard that it doesn't affect the picture during movie or tv watching, but if it affects small text wouldn't it affect small details in what you're watching? I essentially can't get the Z5 as sharp as my old Z3.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope the pictures load up.

Convergence problems are common in LCD projectors simply because they must converge 3 different images into one, where DLP does not. However this convergence problem should never vary with distance, like what can be seen in your images.
Because of this i would guess it being the optics than anything else.
And yes, that convergence problem is what i would consider too "off".

Minor correction: All single chip DLPs do not have a convergence problem. Some 3 chip DLPs have convergence problems. ;)

Quite true, i was just going with single chip dlp's since we're in the under $3,000 area.

Is this a VGA ot DVI(digital) image. An analog (VGA) image can have the convergence be off because of the "total dots" setting not being right. Also keystone can have an effect on convergence.

Just hdmi from hdtv box and toshiba hd dvd player. No keystone, and certainly not any extreme lens shift.
I'm definately thinking this is way off. But I have no idea why it's off with two different colours from two seperate placements.
