View Full Version : Choosing Console For Dual Format Games
I scolled through all the threads in both formats and couldn't find good discussion on this topic.
The purpose of this thread is for people who have both XBox 360 and Playstation 3 to discuss which format of a game to buy that is offered to both consoles.
Fanboys and people who don't own both consoles along with unsubstantiated rumors aren't welcome here.
The obvious titles to start off with here is COD4 and Assassin's Creed. I have flipped through some reviews and couldn't find any concrete differences between the two formats for either game.
Can anyone offer some constructive insight?
FrankJ.Cone 11-09-07, 02:08 PM We have no idea if there are any AC differences. No demo or game so far.
CoD4 pretty much is the same other than no rumble or Tru Skill matchmaking on on PS3. I think I read in the CoD4 thread that your PSN friends list is not ingame and you cannot invite friends from within the game on the PS3.
I chose the 360 for CoD4. I knew the online would work well and offer what I needed. And I wanted rumble.
I'll be renting AC. Don't really care which version unless I hear there are differences.
jedimastergrant 11-09-07, 02:25 PM From IGN's Head to Head on COD4.
PC won or tied in every category.
PS3 and 360 tied in every category. The only difference is that the load times are a little faster on the PS3.
Slacker George 11-09-07, 02:27 PM At this point in time I think you'd be safe with the 360 version in every case. I can't recall any simultaneous release, multi-platform games that are better on the PS3 in any meaningful way.
Of course that's not counting factors like your friends lists and controller preference.
I chose CoD4 for 360 cause of my friends not having a ps3. which was very hard, cause i like the ps3 controller more.

This is incorrect, you PSN friends ARE in game and you can invite them to your party/game etc.

I missunderstood when I read this:
Ugh...no the biggest knock is the matching system on multiplayer; at least on PS3. You can form up a party and all play together in ranked or unranked matches, which is great. But if you just want to go online and see what games your friends are in and join those? No dice. You have to be invited.
This means that they have to be looking for you or expecting you. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I spent just as much time in the waiting to connect screen as I did in the game itself. Until a FW upgrade adds the ability to access XMB and send & receive messages in-game, I don't know how you're going to make your friend aware that you're in COD4 and need and invite to his/her game. I don't want to have to keep checking my friends list in the middle of a firefight
Yup, FrankJ.Cone apparently hasn't played CoD4 online on the PS3. Which is strange as he's made several posts about the game.

LOL you are REALLY reaching now. The developers, reviewers and gamers agree the gameplay and elemetns are the SAME. Making it entirely possible to comment on the GAME without commenting on a SYSTEM.
Mindwarper 11-09-07, 03:34 PM 360 : do you have a xbl account? I like achievements. I have more friends with 360's so more mulit player with 360. Madden and a few games have better fps on the 360. Some additional down loadable content.
ps3: free online, not as good a live experience as xbl. Some dedicated servers.
I have both. The ps3 gets exclusives, blu ray, and ps2 games. 360 gets multi platform for the most part.
FrankJ.Cone, it's OK. You shouldn't get upset when you get called out for posting incorrect info about games you haven't played.

Thankfully we also have people who have played this game on the PS3 to talk about it. Nothing for you to get so upset about.
FrankJ.Cone 11-09-07, 03:38 PM You even QUOTED me as being clear I was not 100% sure. Good work, and please call me Frank. You stalk me enough to be on a first name basis :)
FrankJ.Cone, if you haven't even played the PS3 version of CoD4 and are posting about it in the Playstation area, are you being a bit paranoid about being stalked? Regardless, I think we should report this to the mods.
