I own an HDA2 player going to a Mits 42313 CRT via component. I tried setting up Brightness using test paterns on an SD DVE disk. I could never see BTB bars if I had the player set to 480p, but if I switched it to 480i, they showed up!! and 480i looked lighter in general. Has anyone experienced this? Is it an issue with me using an older version of DVE? Is it a problem with my HDA2 converting to progressive? Is it my display?

It's likely the DVD player. Many players don't pass BTB when set to 480p.
