View Full Version : COD 4 Servers down? What gives?

I can't even begin to tell you how sad of a moment it is to come home after a terribly stressful week ready to play my new game only to find out that the servers are down. I've looked everywhere and so far no official word....

Join me in my sadness.... Pretty soon the wife will be home and then no COD4 for me.....

I'm getting that too. Even before this happened though, it takes me 4-5 minutes to join a game. The game will play one map and then disconnect. Very annoying.

I was getting that all of last night -talk about frustrating!! The good thing is that it forced me to play more of the single player, and I played 2 of the coolest levels probably ever in a game! The infrared helicopter mission and the ghillie suit mission -without a doubt KILLER!!

I logged on this morning, and all was fine... I sure hope it's up tonight too.

Hopefully it'll be ok over the weekend...

Same problem here. I'm stuck on the downloading game settings screen (bonus: in the background it says I'm a level 1! Was a level 30....)

Not a good way to start opening weekend for COD4. Wonder if we'll see any consistency from the crowd that was so harsh on Warhawk?

I assume all of you guys had FW 2, I didn't want to update FW, since it had problems.

I was forced to cause without it, I can't sign on to psn.

I noticed the 360 boards at charlieoscardelta forums were "server issues" free, while the PS3 boards are nothing but. I hope IW addresses whatever it is quickly.

I've been running into lag on the 360 version. It's p2p, there aren't servers. Hopefully it's something minor, and not a repeat of the cod2 multiplayer issues.

the downloading game settings thing was an issue for the beta..and usually if you just left it for 10 minutes or so you'd connect and be fine for the rest of the session.

I thought I saw on the IW forums that the 360 version was having the same problem. Maybe it's region based?

True, but I think that there are IW servers that match you up into a game--I'm assuming it's those that are down for my PS3 brethren.

Just logged off a few minutes ago after playing for a couple hours without any issues.

This is a troll post. Everyone knows that the 360/ps3 uses different servers/online infrastructures for their games. Unless the game is cross platform online, than you would have a reason to post this. Since it's not, there was no point and just another sad attempt at trolling.

They are working fine now.

I doubt they made any changes, but for whatever reason I am connecting better than ever now. Usually I can't connect at night unless I go with a Party Invite from friends.

I'm still getting the "Downloading Game Settings". Should I just leave it sit there for awhile?

Has anyone tried playing split screen when the servers are down? The game freezes at about 15% on the loading screen. I let it sit for 10 mins and it still didn't budge. I have to reboot the PS3. Single player works fine though.

"Hey Everyone --

Another Update for you:

The server team has been working on this all weekend, and will be working through the night. They're upgrading all server hardware as well as dedicated an individual database to each functionality to improve performance and handle the traffic hitting the servers. (i.e. Database for Matchmaking, Database for Leaderboards, etc.)

This will greatly improve the speed and stability for matchmaking for players.

During this upgrade you may still receive the 'Downloading Game Settings' message, but it is temporary, in the sense of just let it download and you will eventually drop into a lobby and play just fine.

Remember, this is just short term, eventually once everything is upgraded you won't be receiving Downloading Game Settings at all.

However, if you do, just wait it out and you will be dropped into a lobby."

Looks like the servers are having another upgrade. The UK players are getting this nearly all the time. Hopefully it should be sorted soon!!

One of our clan members (Blackstaffer) pointed out that if you disconnect the PS3 from your network, you can play split screen. I haven't tried during a server outage.

It seems to me they underestimated the number of people who would buy this game for the PS3 and play it online. This should be a sign to everyone that when you make a good multiplatform game on the PS3, people will take notice.

I played online for several hours straight on Saturday morning, but as the day went on it seemed the servers were having more problems. Looking at leaderboards began taking a loooong time, and finding matches become very tedious. Sometimes it would take 10 minutes to get thrown into one. I know this had nothing to do with a lack of payers, as everyone would get thrown into a lobby all at once and people would be like "damn, that took a long time".

So, it wasn't just the "loading settings screen" that was the problem this wekeend. Sunday was even worse, with almost nothing working correctly.

Why did you buy the ps3 version? Im sure the dedicated servers they are running will be smooth 99% of the time people play the game. I dont see such a big deal if they are having a few issues within the first week of release.

i dont like that answer. if i buy a cd today, i get to listen to a cd today.
same with dvds, heck everything i buy.
why should anyone give them a break? it is their responsibility to the people
that have already purchased the game to give them online play.
everyone that purchased the game has a right to complain.
halo3 has 500,000 people playing it still after being our 6 weeks with no issues.
i think the servers being down is bogus and may turn into a another blackeye for the PS3.

It's really not a big deal. When the 360 came out, CoD2's online was horrifically broken, and it took them around 4 months to patch it. That game went on to be one of the biggest and most played XBox Live games of all time.

Just play the single player on Veteran, I'm sure it will be fixed by the time you beat it. :D

If you've played any online games you should almost expect some growing pains when something is brand new. COD4 isnt halo, for you to make a comparison is rediculous.

Not a comparison. it was stated for a base of how to do things.
I.W. knew thay had a GOTY candidate, knew it was the biggest thing coming to the PS3, and now I am hearing, "we had no idea.....". C'mon, guys.
Warhawk at least worked when it came out, but was PANNED because it gave you too much rank.
This isnt an argument, it's me saying as a consumer "I purchased a game to play online, I have had it for a week, and it doesn't work". It is totally my right to do that.
You guys sit back a week, a month, whatever until they fix it. Your choice.
I, when it comes to my money, expect to get what I paid for at the time it is purchased.
If I wanted to buy an IOU, I would've put that $60 into my 401k.

PS: Thats not a "Helicopter" Mission, don't you watch cut-scenes?? :)

You're a gunner in the AC-130 Spectre Gunship....a C-130 based airplane with all sorts of ordinance hanging out of its left side. The airplane slowly circles a target and the gunners pretty much obliterate anything that moves. And I agree, its one of the best sequences in a FPS ever, because it looks spot-on like footage you see on CNN.

I'm sure many of you have seen the videos on the InterwebZ of actual thermal gun-cannon footage in Iraq and Afghanistan....and this looks identical to them. Right up to the flying body parts and the way the smoke/sparks from impacts look in a thermal camera. Bravo, IW, Bravo. Search on YouTube for videos of an AC-130 in Afghanistan....looks every bit identical to the game, except there is a longer delay between when shots are fired and when the impacts occur.

Than put it on your 401k and wait a couple weeks to find out if the game has any problems instead of jumping in the first day. I personally had 17 hours of blissful fun with the games multiplayer aspect since I got it on launch and dont regret my purchase one bit. 30 minute server downtime while they fix it is not a dealbreaker for me.

I don't get THAT upset because even though it does have multiplayer, we don't pay for a service like those with 360s do. I'm pissed, but I would be much more pissed off if I was paying extra to play it online and it didn't work. When they give me the free option to play online, I cut them some slack. Similar to how tversity is free and people still bitch when new ps3 firmware breaks it.

I was also reading that the 360s were having the exact same problem(s). Have they just fixed the 360s problems first? Can anyone confirm that the 360s now work fine?"

For the last 5 years of Live has been fine for us. Don't worry about any owner being pissed. Plenty of games to play. Especially single player portions to hold us off until things get fixed. HMMMM actually I would get pissed if my ISP was disconnected more than not getting into 1 game on Live or PSN. Seeing that I pay once a year for Live and play and download for free on PSN.

This game is absolutely terrible online, one of the worst online experiences i have ever had. I was skeptical about buying the console version because im so used to playing COD on PC, man have i regretted this decision. It takes me about 10 minutes to get into a game (im on verizon FIOS ffs) and when i finally get in its a down right lagfest. Then you have the servers crashing every 2 hours or so.

This game makes me appreciate how awesome Resistance is even more. Screw the graphics (which arent even that great btw) just give me a lag free game i can enjoy. Im trading this in for Assassins Creed tomorrow, i dont have time to beta test for IW anymore.

PJ_Rage
11-12-07, 10:09 PM
Yeah, it really is pretty annoying. It definitely is taking me an average of 10 minutes to get into a game, and then there is a 3/5 chance that it will instantly kick me back out to another 10 min+ wait. And most of the games I've gotten into have definitely been laggy as hell even though my ping is full green. I love when I shoot 4 3-round bursts, the last 2 of which I KNOW hit the guy and when I die and watch the death cam or whatever its called, I see that my guy only shot 2 bursts? Or after I die when I swore I killed the guy I was shooting at, 15 seconds after I spawn and I'm just running around I see points show up for me and it says I killed someone, lol

Bitching aside, the mutiplayer setup is freaking awesome. I can't wait until they nail down the problems, because even with its quirks, I can't get enough! I haven't enjoyed a multiplayer this much (besides halo, but I don't have an xbox or 360) since counter-strike on the PC (before they sold out) or rainbow 6 when it was hot. And I honestly like this multiplayer better than halo, and slightly better than warhawk, even though it is a little tough to compare to warhawk.
