I have a Samsung LN-T4042H TV, and a ps3 hooked up via HDMI. The ps3 sets optimum display settings at 1080i. As far as I know my TV is only 720p. Is the ps3 reading the game and recognizing 1080i or is it checking my TV for optimal display settings? If it's reading the game does that mean it is converting 1080i into 720p on my TV? I also was experiencing page tearing problems and was not sure if it was a problem with my TV or from using component instead of HDMI, I just changed to HDMI and have not used it long enough to see if this solves the page tearing problem.

I hope I posted this in the right area because this is my first time here.

Thank You

Your TV I believe is native at 768p and can accept 480p, 720p, and a 1080i signal. Leave your PS3 settings at the default (480p, 720p, and 1080i all checked) and you'll be just fine. Further information can be found in the HD display forums.

Tearing is the game/machine. It's not your set or the cables you're using.
