View Full Version : EGM says Bioshock for PS3 is still on the way
joeblow 11-10-07, 02:38 PM The rumor resurfaces, posted at 1up (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164283) from EGM:
This month, an old rumor resurfaces in a new form, as BioShock is apparently back on for PlayStation 3. Previously, it'd been speculated that Microsoft tied up 2K Games' aquatic adventure as an exclusive, but there's a change in the tide, as the world of Rapture may be Cell-enabled in 2008, after all.
EDIT: Yet another source says (http://www.n4g.com/News-82491.aspx) 2K has let it slip that it is on the way:
Megascorcher reports: " 2K Boston (Irrational) let the news slip out today that the ultra popular Bioshock is indeed coming to the PS3, labelled with a "Spring 2008" release. Speaking with some one on the "inside", he told us the project was always slated for a PS3 release. It was just a matter of waiting for the timed exclusivity to expire."
*******
UPDATE (from 2K's forum moderator via CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175626)):
"Clearly Bioshock publisher 2K Games is sick of people asking about a potential PS3 port of the title. Despite rumors suggesting the story-driven FPS might be coming to Sony's side of the fence, 2K Games representatives are adamantly insisting that no such port is in development, now or ever.
We get that they're trying to be clear, but 2K comes off sounding a bit like our dads. Their official statement on the 2K Games forums was: "There will be no PS3 version of BioShock. It has been explained time and time again." A bit harsh, no?
Still, the point has been made. Those looking to get their Little Sister fix will have to turn to the PC or Xbox 360 versions."
b.greenway 11-10-07, 02:40 PM May be = still on the way?
bkchurch 11-10-07, 02:52 PM Um, where's their source?
snickersbar 11-10-07, 02:59 PM Is anyone going to care by the time it does come out?
_Avarice_ 11-10-07, 03:00 PM May be = still on the way?
Does it matter?
bkchurch 11-10-07, 03:25 PM Is anyone going to care by the time it does come out?
I would hope so, Bioshock is one of the best games I've played in a LONG time. I pity anyone who didn't get a chance to play it.

These kinds of games don't appeal to everyone. No pity needed.
GW-SMOkeY 11-10-07, 03:31 PM Well if you're a PC and PS3 owner only, maybe this is your chance to do it. PC gaming is expenisve, PS3 should be able to handle the game correctly!
seanpatrickb 11-10-07, 03:33 PM Played the demo and it seemed pretty sweet, i may buy the PS3 version of it. Still not nearly as sweet as Deus Ex though. :D
b.greenway 11-10-07, 03:36 PM Does it matter?
Yeah. Maybe doesn't equal on the way.
_Avarice_ 11-10-07, 03:38 PM Yeah. Maybe doesn't equal on the way.
Why do you care if it is or isn't?
2k needs the money, but most wont care.

Great games don't appeal to everyone? I can understand if some people are gonna say "O it's a first-person shooter, I don't like those so I don't care" but I'm sure there are many PS3 owners who would love to get their hands on possibly the greatest game of this generation thus far. Even if you don't like shooters you owe it to yourself to give it a shot (no pun intended), the story is amazing (the point where you meet Andrew Ryan may be one of the most jaw-dropping moments in a game ever), the gameplay mechanics completely set it apart from any other shooter (It's alot like Deus Ex with more emphasis on the shooting), and it's one of the few games where I've ever really felt good or bad about the moral implications about some of the decisions I've made.

lol, it's only great if you like that type of game. Personally, I've read the story line and know that it wouldn't appeal to me.
seanpatrickb 11-10-07, 04:43 PM I think its possibly the best game out right now, but i also agree that not everyone is a fan of the fps-rpg genre. This really is a game almost everyone should try though, and people would care if it came out on PS3, because its another great game for the system.
DubBucket 11-10-07, 06:45 PM ok now children.. do we need a time out? :p
I'd probably check it out if they made a PS3 version, but it's not like there's a hole in my game library without it. Honestly, I think RPGs should stick to 3rd person. Part of the fun is the improved appearance of your character as he develops. That's part of the reason I never made it through Oblivion.
From the prior press releases, it's almost a given that it will come out for the PS3. It's a really good game with unique artwork and story telling, and I recommend to both PS3 and 360 owners.

It's not an RPG, though. It really doesn't have any RPG elements.
As for the rumor, EGM's rumors are right maybe 25% of the time. Still, it wouldn't surprise me if this released for PS3. Although, I don't think many would care much.
And I also pity anyone who doesn't get to play this game. It's a classic.
Johnsteph10 11-10-07, 10:27 PM Don't you guys know that if you make funny faces, it could stay that way forever?
I know it's true 'cuz my mom told me that repeatedly. :D

It is an FPS first, but it definitely has strong role playing elements to it, such as character development. While the time i got with Bioshock was pretty good, Mass Effect is looking to be a little more to my taste, but unfortunately is a microsoft published game. It will be interesting to see if Bioshock is forgotten due to Mass Effect, as Bioshock has been a very strong selling game for the 360 up to this point.

2 things. First of all I hate RTS, yet Starcraft is one of my favorite games of all time so the genre doesn't necessarily have to be appealing to a person for them to love the game or at least enjoy it, especially when it's so different from anything else in it's genre. And second, you can't read Bioshock's story, you experience it. Of course the story may not be nearly as appealing to you now that the awesome plot twist has been completely ruined for you.

I'm just not a fan of crazy sci-fi in video games or movies. Bioshock's underlying theme is ripped straight from an Orwellian novel.....I think I'd rather read the book!
Chris Ruhl 11-11-07, 10:06 AM I had no idea what Bioshock was until I saw it mentioned in this forum. I am a casual gamer, love FPS (Resistance is still my favorite) and would most certainly buy this game if it came to the PS3. Just my $0.02....

To each his own I suppose. I still say your missing out on one the greatest and best told narratives in in a game ever :D.
Based on what I've read about, I would look into picking this one up, whenever it comes out, if it does. Its seems innovative and fresh.
:DThe game will be worth EVERY PENNY!
thecrazykevy 11-11-07, 02:55 PM lol, it's only great if you like that type of game. Personally, I've read the story line and know that it wouldn't appeal to me.
Then why are you wasting time posting here?
thecrazykevy 11-11-07, 02:55 PM I hope it does come out.
jocktheglide 11-11-07, 04:29 PM Again going off the OP I heard a rumor also that for every game that is ported over that is liscensed from MS SONY gets a game in exchange. Rumor has it MGS4 is coming to 360 in exchange for Halo 3. So Halo 3 goes to PS3 and MGS4 goes to 360 what an exchange huh..pretty cool deal I say.

My god I hope that was a joke and you don't honestly believe that.

It has to be. Doesn't it.....? :D
watsonte 11-11-07, 04:59 PM BioShock was a great game in my opinion, however, I have never been one to get all that excited over ports...
If they dont port the game over and make it every bit as nice looking as it was on the 360 than I think it would be a welcome addition to the PS3 library, but, with that said I doubt 2k will release it on the PS3 anytime soon.
jocktheglide 11-11-07, 05:00 PM My god I hope that was a joke and you don't honestly believe that.
that what I heard off the OP.....:D Its going to be a multi million dollard deal going on behind the scenes sony and MS are not competing, but I guess rumor has it they plan to take over the world together in the living rooms.
http://blog.megascorcher.com/2007/11/confirmed-bioshock-coming-to-ps3-in-08.html
2K Boston (Irrational) let the news slip out today that the ultra popular Bioshock is indeed coming to the PS3, labelled with a "Spring 2008" release. Speaking with some one on the "inside", he told us the project was always slated for a PS3 release. It was just a matter of waiting for the timed exclusivity to expire.
So taking that in mind, Spring is slightly over 6 months from the 360's release date, so we'll assume the deal was for 6 months.
Microsoft knows what they're doing, 6 months is perfect, every one who's wanted to play it, has already. So that leaves so little people for the PS3 version, but we'll see how it does next year.
seanpatrickb 11-11-07, 06:53 PM Very good news. Thats actually a little sooner than i expected. Hopefully they've already been working on it for a bit, although usually the separate ports are on par or better for the PS3, hope its the same here.
Great game. Everyone should have a chance to play it. Good news.
TheCrackedJack 11-11-07, 06:57 PM http://blog.megascorcher.com/2007/11/confirmed-bioshock-coming-to-ps3-in-08.html
I saw that and find that site hard to believe. They say 2K Boston let it slip out that the PS3 version is coming. Fine, but then why is some blog that I've never heard the only one reporting it? Sound like BS to me.
Don't get me wrong, I think it would be good news. Everyone should have the opportunity to play, but I don't believe this blog.
my guess is they at least started development on it. BioShock was originally meant to be a multiplatform title with a simultaneous launch; development on the PS3 version was probably started at the least, but when MS signed the exclusive deal, they probably put most, if not all of their resources into the PC/360 versions.
@TCJ, i agree the source is not the most reliable. but TBH, i wouldn't surprised if it were true.
seanpatrickb 11-11-07, 07:12 PM Possible reason this isn't announced other places may be because its a sunday, news generally moves a little slower.
joeblow 11-11-07, 08:03 PM Yet another source says (http://www.n4g.com/News-82491.aspx) 2K has let it slip that it is on the way for the PS3:

That's not another source saying that 2K has let it slip. NG4 is simply reposting the Megascorcher blog post, which is still the only source

Because I'm entitled to my opinion.

I think you're mistaken a little. I believe it's a rebuttle to an Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". So it's theme isn't ripped from a book at all, but it does have a moral to the story.

Read "Step 1." There's no pinning this down to one work, so I'd say we're both right :)

jocktheglide 11-12-07, 08:47 AM you guys calm down just chill for a bit ok the deals is done and over with OP knows about this and megasonic blog knows about this before 2k even knows...its just a deal behind the scenes between sony and MS>
Union0015 11-12-07, 12:57 PM I hope this game comes out for PS3. I started playing it a few weeks ago and finally had some time this weekend to really sit down with it. Ended up playing it the entire weekend and beat it. An incredible experience--one of the best games I've played in years!
PS3 or Xbox 360, this is a title every gamer needs to play.

its a title everyone should play on the PS3, but not the 360 i totally agree..your right.
TomGreen321 11-12-07, 08:07 PM Who cares, honestly? Good for ps3 owners I suppose, but the game was way over hyped for most people. I bought the PC version, beat it in a few days and won't touch the thing ever again, no replayabilty at all. Good game, but not sure if PS3 owners will really care for it next year.
Stangs55 11-14-07, 09:32 AM Sorry Guys...an bit of an update on one of the greatest FPS of all time (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/2k-games-no-bioshock-on-ps3-stop-asking/)

joeblow 11-14-07, 11:22 AM Thanks for the additional update... adding to the first post.
One of these days I'm going to have to install it on my PC to see what the fuss is about. I've had it for a few weeks but haven't even opened the box yet (TF2 taking all of my gaming time).
joe_six_pack 11-14-07, 11:36 AM The game wasn't even that good (IMO). I didn't even get through playing half way before getting bored and turning to other games like whorecock.
Also, just my opinion, but say the ps3 were to get bioshock a year after the 360 version (or the 360 get MGS a year after), who really cares about sloppy seconds?

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Bioshock, but it should be noted that you're in the overwhelming minority. (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/bioshock) While I agree that nobody likes sloppy seconds, Bioshock is an exception and one of those games that everyone who enjoys gaming should play--even if it means a year or so down the pipe.
