I want a new projector, I currently have an Epson Powerlight 550 but after going to my "newly upgraded to HD" local theater to see Gone Baby Gone I now want more!

My local theater upgraded to HD projectors and I couldn't believe my eyes, even the plain green rating screens before each preview was a pleasure to watch.

When the miramax logo first popped up I couldn't believe how rich and vibrant the colors were; it was like the entire screen was glowing.

What feature do I want to look for in a projector to provide a vibrant bright screen? I want the colors to jump out at me, and currently my Epson doesn't do this. I have a very dark room and a 120" screen.

I assume the JVC RS1 from what I gather can achieve this but the $4,000 is a little more than I want to spend right now. What else can compare? I realize my Epson 550 is an early model and all current 1080p projectors may give me a less dull screen than I currently have.

Here is a picture of the setup I have now:

Well, I use a Sharp DT-500 and it looks a lot like our local DLP cinema. It can now be had for under a grand and it's definitely bright, even in high contrast mode. Coloirs are awesome. I got mine for $762 when it was still listed at about $1,400 MINIMUM. :D

It's NO joke. The DT-500 is bad to the bone. :)

the new panasonic should give you what you want and more. Definitely worth a look.

Nice room...where are your speakers?
I have the panny 200U and it's got a lot of color...so much so I had to turn it down a fair bit...

Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. I love the price on the new panny 1080p and I will check out the other projectors mentioned in the thread.

Also, thanks for the compliments on the room. For the person asking about the speakers, I am running a full def tech setup and the speakers are located behind the screen wall in the front of the room. The columns are covered in GoM fabric.
