Hi everyone, could someone possibly help me out with a problem I'm having with my PS3?

Previous I had the console attached to my main setup, HDMI for the video and optical output for the audio. Optical was going into a Denon AVR-2105 which gave no problems.

I've now moved the PS3 into my home office and it is attached to a brand new Samsung 37" LCD panel (1080p), and the Optical output is going into the breakout box from a SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite Pro.
I've tried all manner of settings this morning to try and get sound to output but to no avail. When the PS3 switches on the startup orchestral score plays fine, but trying to navigate through the menus or play video leads to no sound whatsoever. I've changed the usual settings but still no luck.

The Xbox 360 plays fine without any changes being made. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Pete

So you are getting sound for the orchestral, but no sound for movies or games? Am I getting that right? I've had problems losing my menu "clicks". I know that there is a on/off feature for the clicks and even when it's turned on, I can't get my clicks when my PS3 is connected through optical, only when connected through HDMI. It's really strange. But aside from the lack thereof "clicks", my movies and games play fine through either HDMI or optical.

Did you check your Blu ray settings? I thought there was some setting in there that you had to designate audio output to HDMI or optical.

There's no sound at all on anything after the initial "fanfare" of switching on the console. No BD, game or any other kind of sound.

I've been through all the settings on the console but it's made no difference :(

Have you checked the output sample frequencies? 44.1, 88.2, etc? Too high for the Soundblaster?

There's also a volume control, but that shouldn't have changed.

i'd bet the soundblaster is the issue. those things are wonky as hell with digital inputs and outputs. try rich's suggestion to test different output sample freq's. other than that, i'd say wire things so you aren't going through the x-fi.

I haven't tried the frequencies, thanks that's a good tip, I'll try it when I get home.

I suspect it may well be the X-Fi as well, frustrating as it works perfectly with the 360.
Thanks guys.
