I am itching to upgrade my AE900 to a 1080p projector, or should I?
I have recently bought an HD DVD player, and although I am more than happy with it, I just do not get the "wow factor" of clarity and vividness of the demos they have at the stores.
Is it because my projector is 720p and not 1080p. Is there really a big difference in pic quality? I know that 720p is HD as well
My setup:

I also own a Panasonic 900 but can't get 1080p off my mind. I have both HD DVD and Blu-Ray players in my system, and I do watch a lot of HD.
Is there anyone out there that has gone from using a Panasonic 900 to one of the new, more affordable 1080p projectors that can tell us about their experience? For instance, is there really any more detail in a typical HD disc to be had?
I have an ae900 and have been thinking about 1080p for a while. I set up a Mitsubishi HC5000 for my parents over the summer, and the difference was quite visible. However, they also have a higher end screen so that might be part of it.

Trying to resurrect this thread as I am no going throught the itch now....
Granted my budget comes in around $2000, that gives me the original Epson 1080 Home, the Mitsubishi HC5000 ....

Panasonic ax2000? You can grab one for a little over your budget and while I doubt the increased resolution will be as much of a wow factor as other benefits in image quality this model will give you. A true 1080p source will look great on your 900 as well.

THanks so much.

'Dynamic' on the panasonic models looks ok but the image will not have the rich colors and contrast as the 'theater' modes.
The 'dynamic' setting is fantastic for my PS3. I use it specifically for games.

I went from the panasonic ae900 to the panasonic ae2000. There is no comparison in picture quality. The ae2000 beats it by a long shot in brightness, black level, color, sharpness, 3d effect, etc. It is amazing how in a few short years picture quality on projectors have improved dramatically. I recently watched the blu ray version of 27 dresses (with my wife) on the ae900. I remember wondering if I was outputting in 720p because the picture looked flat. I then played the movie through my ae2000 at 1080p and there was very noticeable improvement in picture quality. I think the improvement is not just due to higher resolution. The ae2000 uses better lens elemenents and processing.
