This is my first post here. I have tried wading through the wealth of knowledge here but did not find an answer that I am looking for. Anyway, my parents recently bought a Hitachi P50T501 plasma TV. They do not have HD hooked up yet but will soon. From the store all the color settings were way off for their viewing environment. I tried working with the settings to get the colors to look more natural. I used the THX calibration off of Star Wars. I thought it looked OK but later my dad called me and said that the greens and oranges looked almost neon in color. What is some advice you could give me for setting up the colors properly. Would one of those calibration DVDs work better than the THX setup on Star Wars?

Thanks
Charles

A calibration disc will give you a more complete set of patterns plus more explanation on the what and why of what you're trying to accomplish.

Getgray is the best for plasma.

Check the thread in this forum.

Hey, the disc will get you close but not exact. You technically have to calibrate each input individually. But I can give you some tips. Start with the settings you get from a calib dvd. Then on the cbl/sat input take contrast down until those glowing neon colors go natural. It will probably be around 60 or 70. black enhancement off. then take brightness down until the black bars on sides ( of a channel in 4:3 for example) go all black. Take sharpness down to almost 0. auto movie mode on. Color you will need to adjust down a little below middle or until the colors stop bloming. Usually this should be right about 40 or 50 anyway. Try playing with that and let me know.
